How To Balance Motherhood and Mom Entrepreneur During The Summer

Well, it is definitely Summer Time! Can you feel the heat.  As you all know, I’m a mom entrepreneur and mother to two beautiful children. I didn’t realize how hard it was going to be with both of my babies at home with me this summer.  Normally, my son is in pre-school daily, and that leaves me with my daughter. I really had gotten comfortable with my schedule and normal routines with me and her.  Not to say that i’m not making it happen in my business, but I had to re-adjust and re-organize my schedules and the way i’m handling my work and family during these couple of summer months.  I want to share with you some basic tips on how to balance motherhood and mom entrepreneurduring those summer months.

1) Change your work hours:  My normal business hours was from 10am to 6pm, but with summer and everything else that has been going on, I decided that it was best for me to change my work schedule.  My summer hours are 12pm to 6pm. This gives me time to get the house situated, get the kiddos organized with breakfast, house chores, and playtime.  I usually sleep a little later now, that I have rearranged some things, but it now consist of taking the kids to a playground for about an hour before it gets too hot, and kinda spending quality time with them for a couple of hours before I start to work.  Being a mom entrepreneur, in my opinion, takes a lot more of will power, and determination, because all of your work is always starring you in the face.

2) Get your kids involved:  As a mom entrepreneur, you have more hands to help out around the house. With my kids being toddlers, they are always wanting to help mommy. So, I let them.  I have a skinny vacuum that’s big enough for a five year old, he vacuums all of our bedrooms, and hallways.  ”he tells me he’s stronger and a big boy”.  I allow my daughter which is three years old, she helps me fold clothes, straighten paper work in my office.  If i’m cooking breakfast, I let them help with that as well.  Whatever you can do to keep them more engaged and involved, this will make them feel less of of being by themselves.

3) Take a Time-Out Literally: When you find yourself feeling overwhelmed with all of the ideas you have in your head, take a time-out.  There will definitely be those days where you fill like pulling all of your hair out. Use this time to take a nap, meditate, pray, or whatever you have to do in order for you to re-group and try it again.  There is no wrong or one way to get things done.  I always tell other moms or people who come to me for advice, is to find a system that works for you, and be content with it.  Everybody’s different and what works for me, might not work for you, and vice versa.

4) Learn to be flexible:  Always make time for yourself and be willing to change some things if they are not giving you the results that you are desiring.  We, as moms, we tend to forget about ourselves. Have an open mind about learning new ideas, take a new course that will better yourself.  Everyday, I learn something new and it just have me so excited on the inside about all the great knowledge that I’ve gained.  Read other people’s blogs to gain more knowledge as well.

5) Smile a little:  I saved this one for last because smiling is great therapy for your soul.  I try to make sure I smile a lot and laugh a lot on a daily basis.  With toddlers near by, I’m quite sure I can find something to laugh about.  This is your homework, I want you to practice smiling more and tell me how this makes you feel.  Be honest!

I really hope this blog post inspires you to make the necessary changes to achieve your business goals and balance your personal life as well during these summer months.  If this post has been a blessing to you, share it with your family and friends.

Best Wishes,
