BBWO: BLACK BUSINESS WOMEN ONLINE
Hello BBWO:

Revamping the website design was just the first step. I am in the process of creating the BBWO 2010 Agenda... I want our network to make an impact on more women entrepreneurs of color ... I want you to feel like this space is truly a place to be motivated, informed, and make connections.

Leave a comment: Share your thoughts on what BBWO should have and become for the future. If you are reading this note via email click here to post a comment.

One more thing: I love the new burst of energy on the network, but I feel you are still not as active as you should be. While we are here  to promote ourselves, we are also here to exchange ideas and make connections.

When was the last time you answered a question in the forum or sparked conversation? Always remember that social networking is about building relationships and that needs to happen everyday. Join the BBWO conversation in our forums and on facebook.

Hi Lashanda, I think your site is really awesome and full of useful information. I don't post much because to be honest, I am social networked out. Isn't that horrible? Perhaps I belong to too many sites but I guess that is what happens when you try to be supportive of others. I currently belong to 33 ning sites, not including my own site, and a family site I am trying to maintain. Add to that Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, and my website, and it just becomes too much, at times.

Plus, as an author, I am finding that social networking doesn't really move books, at least not fiction ones. My success in terms of sales comes from placing my books in the hands of potential buyers as I tell them what great stories are in store for them. So that is where I need to place my focus. I will continue to put information out as I see fit, plus, I have received some valuable tips and will still look forward to what everyone is posting/offering.

Much Love,

Tracy

Really wonderful points Tracy. I'm glad you brought up the fact that you are on several social networking sites doing multiple things. Its alot of work and this gives me food for thought ... as far as how to make it easier for members to stay connected to BBWO and share input on an as needed basis. -lh
Tracy,

You are right about social networking not moving your business. I felt exactly the same way when I realized that my presence on facebook and other social networking sites was far less than what I desired - looking for connections to inspire or motivate me, jumpstart my business ideas. I think attending social events where you can physically meet, greet and talk to people about your business is a better way to promote your business then throw facebook and other in for added impact. If you are just starting you could probably piggy-back on bigger events (of course with the consent of the host), get introduced to prospective clients and get your ball rolling.
Interesting question Kimmy ... do you mean your own tools? Can you give me an example of what kind of content you are referring too. -lh
Hello LaShanda,

I'm still fairly new...Sooo, I'm still getting my feet wet, but so far, so good! I'll continue to be an active member here because I love it so much! It's inspiring. Thank you for starting this network up. I've actually invited people to the site, as well. One thing that I would love to see here is a chat room? I know that some Ning networks have them, and it works well! A lot of people signed in just to have a quick chat. It would probably help to because I know that with all of us being business women, alot of us may not have much time to spend online or we may get on at completely different times. This would help bridge the gap and possibly build stronger relationships. I know that it would work beautifully here.

Great points Fatima!

We did have a chat, but I took it off. I just added a new one to the pink toolbar at the bottom of each page. On the left side you see the button that says 'Join Chat'... I'll hang around in the chat room today to make sure it works.

By the way ... love your products. BBWO Tweeples and FB Friends posted some nice comments about your accessories.
Great! I hope that this chat really turns out to be a great addition. I love it. All of the options are so nice (broadcast, mic, webcam, etc) I've actually never seen one like that before!

And oh my goodness...Thank you! and that just made my day..... :) Please forward my thanks to them, too!
Thank you for this site for women of color business owners to talk and solve some problems. I am in the same situation of belonging to many networking clubs. We should at least chat once a week.
I love the weekly chat idea. I think its a great way to stay connected.
A weekly scheduled chat would be good too...Like, a special time where we can expect to find more people in the rooms. I've actually been hanging out in the chatrooms and always seem to be the only one! Lol!
Greetings LaShanda,
Tracy mentioned social-networking burnout in the post below. This is something I have been thinking a lot about myself. With so many networks popping up everyday, it becomes pretty demanding to keep "fresh" so to speak, and I am someone who is a contributor, not just a voyeur.

Managing my online time against "real world" time is a challenge. I wonder about the average user who is not looking to promote a business or themselves--how likely are they going to be consistently active when their motivation for participation may shift day to day.

Coming up with ways to keep members regularly interacting with each other is something I'm focusing on as I develop some network sites on my end. Honestly, virtual friendships are cool but being able to connect in real life is better. What about BBWO local mixers, where members in a given city actually meet in person, for business or for plain ol' fun? That's one solution I'm implementing for one of my client's company and they are really excited about the ideas I have for them.

So my suggestion is to host BBWO mixers in the cities that have large memberships, where the idea of belonging to a network can actualize into a real memorable experience in person. I bet that would make people engage with each other a whole bunch more because they will have met and will feel like they are really apart of something exclusive.

Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this.
Until next time,
