You can usually be pretty open to networking with most people, however here are some tips to help ensure that you are friending those who you feel more comfortable with:
(a) they should have a clear profile pic (see mine and Tamyka's as examples)
(b) they should have a complete profile question area with links to where you can get to know more about them (don't click the link ... copy and paste it into a search engine to check and make sure it's a safe link to visit)
It truly pays to take time to research new connections BEFORE adding them so that you can enhance the quality of your online community. That is totally within your own control. Be bold and courageous in this area, and it will pay off for you in the long run.
I live this every day. I truly get this.
