My first Article!!! Hooray

First of thanks to Dominique for giving me a chance to flex my writing muscle. I joined her group From a Writers POV(point of view) and she had an open call for writers for her online magazine. I took a chance and she liked what I had to offer. Take a look at the article and tell me what you think. My contribution is called Sisterspeak. While you're there, why not take a look at the other authors, you may see some familiar faces from BBW.

Blessings Happy New Year All,

I hope you can join me for my next book reading on Saturday, January 12 @ 1:15pm-2:15pm at Flow Yoga Center, 1450 P Street, NW, Washington, DC. I will read excerpts from my debut novel Love's Troubadours - Karma: Book One (iUniverse - August 2007, available on Amazon.com for $20.95), sign books, and share how my 2005-2006 Flow Yoga Center teacher training experience and home yoga practice helped me surrender to the process of writing, self-publishing, and marketing my novel. This is event is free and will be held in Flow Yoga Center's second floor lounge.

About Novel:

Love's Troubadours - Karma: Book One by Ananda Kiamsha Madelyn Leeke tells the story of Karma Francois, a thirtysomething yogini with Louisiana roots and urban debutante flair. The novel begins with Karma?s life in an uproar. The ups and downs that she experiences as a result of career loss and poor life choices make her feel like she is living her own version of Adho Mukha Svanasana (downward facing dog). While rebuilding her life in Washington, DC, Karma relies on her yoga and meditation practice, family, friends, and therapist to help her confront the effects of her poor life choices and embrace a spiritual journey of healing and love. The novel features many businesses, organizations, and landmarks in the U Street, Shaw, Adams Morgan, and Dupont Circle neighborhoods. Love's Troubadours is available for sale on Amazon.com for $20.95. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/lovestroubadours.

So many of us grew up having big dreams of having great fortune, success, happiness, however life has way of giving the very opposite of what was hoped for. Have you ever had these feelings: wanting to have more money to take care of yourself and your family but don’t, wanting to spend more time with your family but can’t. Theses are example of things that can be changed in your life, if you are willing to start believing in your dreams again.

If I told you I knew of a professional career that has a opportunity for you to start your own business, would you want to know about it? Of course you would, because you want the financial security, you want the dream home; you want the time freedom that owning this type of business provides. Now I’m not saying that owning a business is for everyone, however I am saying the opportunity is available to everyone.

If you want to know more about this business visit www.shanekamarigny.com and fill out the form located in the “Become an Agent” sector.

Each of us has mental, emotional, and physical "water"—all of which support us at our current level. But unless we add fresh water all the time in the form of new experiences, new ways of thinking, new beliefs, and new ideas, we become stagnant. When we accept such new ways of being or thinking, we are better able to connect to what we want in life. That's why in this month's newsletter we're going to look at the "O" in "connect," which stands for "Open Up to Opportunities."

Life is constantly presenting you with opportunities. Every moment something new, wonderful, and exciting awaits you. The next obstacle you face may help you grow far beyond anything you ever felt was possible and achieve new levels of success. However, for this to occur, you must open up to the opportunities that come your way. And that requires you to do something profound: Embrace change.

Three master keys will help you open up to opportunities and be a change embracer.
Face the change without fear. Often, the negative implications you associate with change are temporary or simply an illusion. So when faced with sudden change, immediately ask yourself the following questions:
• What's the truth of my situation?
• What's the current reality?
• What could be good about this?
• What's the future opportunity?
Put your fears aside and be objective with your answers. Only then can you do an accurate reality check.
Open your heart. We all possess a spirit that binds us together, regardless of our differences. It's called the spirit factor and it connects us to total strangers. The spirit factor is what causes us to rush to someone's aid, even though we don't know the other person. When we discover the spirit factor that binds us together, we discover the value in what others have to contribute. At that point we can more easily open up to opportunities and embrace change.
You must believe.Believe that something good is going to happen to you. Keep your expectations high and your faith strong. Remember who you are and that you are worthy of great things.
When you connect to these three master keys, you begin to change from within. You are then empowered to embrace any outside change that comes your way and can more readily spot opportunities waiting for you.

Have a Super Fantastic Day!

"The Network Provider"~Take A Tip From Barney!
Making The NET Work For You-12 Keys To Networking Etiquette!

Web 2.0 Social Networking technology is a VALUABLE tool for "new school" application of the "ol school" concept of networking and the sharing of referrals. Networking is a powerful tool for building success and successful relationships. Building a strong influential network is essential toward reaching your secular, personal, business or ministry goals.

To build an affluent, affective and effective network requires building upon the strong back of others; you need a "Network Provider!" Whether "ol' or new school" there are rules to the game! There are unspoken principles of Network Etiquette which will make for successful virtual or reality networking!

A "Network Provider" provides a strong base for building a good network. A good "Network Provider" is a strong referral who will lead you to the avenue, doors and individuals who can make things happen for you. If you stand on the strong back of another's victory, reputation, hard work and generosity~DON'T BREAK THEIR BACK!

"Burning The Bridge" of your "Network Provider" maybe a costly act! The "backside you kick today" may be the one you have to kiss tomorrow! (YES, I am speaking FRENCH HERE!) I have found folks so hungry to excel that their end never justifies their means for advancement. A hungry soul who finally sees their "light of day" by another's generosity must highly regard that "Network Provider."

The "Network Provider" is the conduit who opens the door to another's path to success! Cut the lamp off of an effective "Network Provider" you will be in the dark again and painfully so! We can be so hungry that we snatch food off of the table and bite the hand which is feeding us!

Slamming that door in the face of the "Network Provider" is a lethal act. Careless disregard to the "Network Provider" can seal that open door of support and favor for the future! You never know WHEN you will need your "Network Provider" again! We have become such hungry desperate users of the good will and reputation of others!

As I remember opening my secular business ("back in the day!"), a design firm in New York City, the Lord provided for me a wonderful "Network Provider!" Mr. Hugh Price, then President of the National Urban League, wrote countless letters to his business associates on my behalf. Hugh became a God sent "Network Provider!" He knew exactly what I needed without my asking!

He introduced me to nearly all of his associates via a letter of recommendation and introduction. Then, he sent me the actual letter of introduction and the list of target names, addresses and phone numbers. I can never forget his generosity launched my business to a successful practice, within moments! Embracing new, QUALITY clients was like "a hot knife to soft butter"~"THAT WAS EASY!" He gave freely, for my benefit and looking for nothing in return. I remain eternally thankful for his support into my endeavors. He remains a trusted advisor!

The Rule of Etiquette For Successful Networking????!!!!; TAKE A TIP FROM BARNEY! Read from your Children's Library, "Barney Manners" and you will discover "Please and Thank You Are The Magic (Supernatural) Words!" Here are some simple tips for keeping a strong relationship with your "Network Provider:"

12 Keys To Networking Etiquette!

1. Ask politely for exactly what you need. A good "Network Provider" supplies your need before you even ask! The "Network Provider" KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT YOU NEED!

2. Reply with "Thank You" IMMEDIATELY when favor is extended. Give a few kudos generously!

3. Follow up with updates on how you are progressing with a lead or an open door.

4. Don't burn the list! That is to say...don't over use any one particular "Network Provider's" Name or Referral! Look and Pray for more "Network Providers" who will also be supportive.

5. Use your STRONGEST "Network Providers" sparingly and wisely.

6. Don't casually use a "Network Provider's" NAME WITHOUT PERMISSION! Simply ask, " May I use your NAME please or can you please refer me?" Don't be a NAME DROPPER at the expense of your NETWORK PROVIDER!

Don't ASSUME you have FAVOR ETERNALLY with your "Network Provider!" ( I don't have to speak more French here do I?) Don't over shoot the runway with your "Network Provider's" influential referral.

7. Stay in touch with your "Network Provider" Pay honor, respect and remember your "Network Provider" as valuable.

8. Look BACK, as you climb the latter of success built upon the labor of your "Network Provider" and if you can extend opportunity to your "Network Provider" DO SO!

9. BECOME A "NETWORK PROVIDER" YOURSELF! Favor was extended to you! Embrace the ministry of Network Building! Make sure you know who you are endorseing before you become a "Network Provider!" Wonderfully, you will ALWAYS be in the pathway of NETWORK FAVOR! Give and it shall be given to you!

10. Don't take credit for achieving a successful step without including a regard to your "Network Provider!" Give credit where credit is due!

11. Take A Tip From "Barney!" Just Say Please and Thank You! Thank the Lord for leading you to a "Network Provider" whom HE COULD USE FOR YOU!
Thank the Lord FOR YOUR "NETWORK PROVIDER!" You couldn't have made it without the JESUS IN THEM!

12. DON'T RUIN your "Network Providers" Name by your indiscretions! You can make a "Network Provider" no longer credible by the way YOU CONDUCT YOUR AFFAIRS! Make a good name for yourself and save the reputation of your "Network Providers" for others!

Apologize QUICKLY if you step on the toe of your "Network Provider!"

Succeeding and advancing in the name of another's good reputation and success is a responsibility as well as a valuable gift. Become responsible and honest to "Network Provider" etiquette; you WILL SORE VICTORIOUSLY! Always remember to Qualify your "Network Provider" as credible! Sometimes the "Network Provider" wants YOU TO PROVIDE THE NETWORK!
The "Network Provider"~Take A Tip The Bishop!
"Don't TAKE from the hand of the 'Network Provider'
who is ALREADY GIVING YOU A BLESSING!"

Can I Borrow $25? HAPPY NEW YEAR

Can I borrow $25?

A man came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find his 5-year
old son waiting for him at the door.

SON : 'Daddy, may I ask you a question?'
DAD: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the man.
SON : 'Daddy, how much do you make an hour?'
DAD: 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the
man said angrily.
SON : 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an
hour?'
DAD: 'If you must know, I make $50 an hour.'
SON : 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down.
SON : 'Daddy, may I please borrow $25?'

The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you
can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then
you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why
you are being so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish
frivolities.' The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's
questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money? After
about an hour or so, the man had calmed down , and started to think:
Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and
he really didn't ask for money very often. The man went to the door of
the little boy's room and opened the door. 'Are you asleep, son?' He
asked. 'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy. 'I've been thinking,
maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man. 'It's been a long
day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $25 you
asked for.'

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!'
He yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled
up bills. The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get
angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then
looked up at his father. 'Why do you want more money if you already
have some?' the father grumbled. Because I didn't have enough, but now
I do,' the little boy replied. 'Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an
hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to
have dinner with you.'

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he
begged for his forgiveness. It's just a short reminder to all of you
working so hard in life. We should not let time slip through our
fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to
us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $50 worth of
your time with someone you love.

If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily
replace us in a matter of hours. But the family & friends we leave
behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

Yogini Ananda Leeke surrendering her ego to Creator's will,
opening her heart, being present, and practicing self-care
during her kind and gentle yoga practice
in Malcolm X-Meridian Hill Park in Fall 2007

Blessings All,

Happy New Year! Last night, I celebrated New Year's Eve at Shakti Mind Body Studio (http://www.shaktimindbodystudio.com/) with my yoga teacher Faith (co-owner of Shakti) and sistalove friends Mari, Sharon, April, Seema, and Monea. The evening began with meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), and an invigorating yoga practice led by Ieshia, co-owner of Shakti. Immediately following the yoga practice, Ieshia invited everyone to write our intentions for 2008. I jotted down twelve intentions. My first four intentions were:

-to surrender my ego to Creator's will

-to open my heart

-to be present

-to practice self-care

These intentions are sacred commitments that I am using to guide my personal life and service as a yoga teacher, Reiki practitioner, artist, and writer in 2008. Thus far, they have helped me redefine and expand the way I share yoga. My new way of sharing yoga is called kg yoga life practices, a healing arts service that helps individuals, organizations, businesses, and communities develop and use self-care tools that cultivate awareness, balance, and calm in daily life. See the mission, philosophy, and description of services below.

MISSION

kg yoga life practices’ mission is to share and teach self-care tools in a kind and gentle manner that honors the heart of each individual’s needs. By providing these services in this manner, kg yoga life practices encourages its clients to use their life experiences as opportunities to surrender their egos, open their hearts, and practice mindfulness (sati), loving kindness (metta), compassion (karuna), honesty (satya), empathetic joy (mudita), and equanimity (upekka).

PHILOSOPHY

kg yoga life practices’ philosophy is based on two Yoga Sutra principles: Iswara Pranidhana (surrender) and Abyhasa (devoted practice). When you surrender your ego, your heart opens and allows you to live in the present. Living in the present helps you create space in your spirit, mind, and body for a devoted practice of self-care. A devoted practice begins with yoga and incorporates self-care tools that address your individual needs .

In Sanskrit, yoga means the union of spirit, mind, body, and breath. This union occurs when you open your heart and surrender to the present moment. When you live in the present moment, yoga blesses you with the benefits of:

-Awareness of your concentration, effort, and mindfulness;
-Articulation of truth in your intention and understanding; and
-Authenticity in your speech, actions, and livelihood.

These benefits help yoga to become Your Opportunity to Graciously Accept yourself and life.™

SERVICES

kg yoga life practices offers clients a portfolio of four categories of self-care tools:

1) Centering - meditation, prayer, affirmation, devotional reading, and listening to music

2) Sensory - visualization, aromatherapy, color therapy, gemstone therapy, eye yoga, Reiki healing touch, and self-massage

3) Movement - mindful walking and yoga (kind and gentle, yin, restorative, laughter, chair, and office)

4) Creative Expression - art (collage, painting, wire sculpture, drawing, and coloring), writing (poetry and journaling), mantra chanting (includes mala beads and chakra tuning), ritual, and ceremony

kg yoga life practices will work with clients to determine their intentions, assess their needs, and develop a customized healing arts session(s) that incorporates one or more of these self-care tools. For more information about kg yoga life practices' services and fees, please contact:
