Following my "core" so I can stay at home.

Well in case you have not been keeping up I am going in a different direction.

I still would like to help parents who stay at home or parents who want to stay at home but for me to continue to stay at home I needed to make some changes. So this site will follow more of what I am at my core and how I can help you do the same if you would like. A post to come at some future time would be of the money spent trying to be who I am not and market what is not my core, “core” being what I would do if time and money were not an issue.

My parent are from the south and a generation that lived the true home economics class; from gardening and flowers-lake-300x200.jpgcanning to sewing and cooking from scratch. I do know that a lot of that rubbed off on me. So that is what I am up to and that is what I will be talking about how to do, when
to do and maybe even where to do. I do not profess to be an expert on any of this but am willing to share what I come across and my successes and failures. I would love for you to chime in whenever you have an idea or technique that you think might work.

As summer is coming up, my focus will be more on gardening and the outside projects. Once fall comes around, I will focus on attempts to update the inside of the home or prep for the garden, etc.

I have added a store which shows some of the resources that I have utilized in my attempts. Should you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer them. In an attempt to update more
regularly, posts may be short but hopefully informative. Take care.

YourNight is a free social interactive site where you can connect with your friends and family. Similar to Facebook, with better functionality. You can expand the Whiteboard so it is easier to read and reply.

-With your YourNight profile, you can create up to five separate profiles, one for your friends, family, professional associates, a blogging profile, and a dating profile if you chose to do so.

-YourNight is message specific, which means, the unique thing with YourNight is when you create your "What are you doing now?" message, you can send it to only one or all of your 5 five profiles people. This means you can have your message viewed by only your friends, and your family and professional profile people will not see it, which means, better privacy. With Facebook, everyone sees what you write.

-YourNight comes with customizable widgets. With YourNight, you have a page where you can have access to your favorite sites, such as Gmail, AOL, Yahoo, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, CNN, People, Amazon, Ebay, Target, Bank of America, Wachovia, to name a few.

-YourNight is creating a shopping network where you can purchase products at major retailers at up to 20% off. Major retailers such as Best Buy, Target, Overstock.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Walmart, and other major retailers, are partnering with YourNight.

-YourNight is a referral social site. You need to be invited by or know someone who is a member of YourNight to create your free profile. This is important, because YourNight.com is sharing in the revenues it receives with its members. YourNight needs to track who you refer, because you can receive additional income, if you chose, based on their buying habits from the shopping site and the Gold Member referral program. You can receive 1% cash back of the total purchase amount of all the people that you refer, when they purchase items through the YourNight website. Cash Back rewards can be increased to up to 2.5% if certain requirements are made.

-With YourNight, you have the option to upgrade to a Gold Member for $10.00 per month, if you chose. (6.80) If you live in the UK. You can always remain as a free member of YourNight and enjoy the entertainment value of being able to socialize with friends and family, if that is your desire. There are many additional cash reward benefits for Gold Members, one of which is, you can receive $2.00 per month of all the people that you refer, with a minimum of five people who upgrade to Gold Member status. Hence, your $10.00 per month membership is paid for by your cash rewards from the $2.00 each you receive for the referrals of the five Gold Members.

-YourNight is also a charitable organization. $0.50 a month from every Gold Membership is transferred to YourNight.org, a not-for-profit sister company to YourNight. The donations are planned to be distributed within the area that they are collected from.

Those are just a few of the major benefits of creating a free profile with YourNight.com. YourNight's goal is to become the major social website on the internet. Facebook currently has over 400 million members. If YourNight surpasses that, just imagine the friends you could make, the professional connections you could make, the additional income you could make, and the monetary contributions you could create for the world!

Black Women Adjusting to Job Loss

Magic Power Coffee - You never had coffee like this before!

One can start adjusting to unemployment by using a little psychology. Many studies have been done on how to deal with loss. Psychologists have found that people often have an easier time dealing with loss if they know what feelings they might experience during the "grieving process." Grief doesn't usually overwhelm us all at once; it usually is experienced in stages. The stages of loss or grief may include:

1. Denial - You cannot believe that the loss is true.

2. Anger - You blame those who you think might be responsible -- including yourself.

3. Bargaining - You try to "strike a deal" ( with a Higher Authority): "If you help me get a job, I promise never to be late to work again.

4. Depression - You realize the reality of the loss

5. Acceptance - You come to terms with the loss and get the energy and desire to move beyond it. The "acceptance"stage is the best place to be when starting a job search, but you might not have the luxury of waiting until you get to this point before beginning your search.

It is helpful to monitor you reactions and control any adverse emotions. Although you may well experience the stages of grief outlined above, they may not necessarily be in the order mentioned. If you experience strong negative emotions during these stages, you may need a break from your job search until you reach the acceptance stage. Most people can function in the earlier stages, as long as they remain aware of their feelings and are able to Keep these emotions from affecting their activities. For example, if you're still in your "angry" stage, it's important to understand that expressing your anger during a job interview could be self-defeating. Following are some tips to keep in mind during the job search process to keep yourself emotionally healthy and motivated to look for work.

Are you at 8,000 yet?

8000-black-business-women A few hours ago I was approving the newest members on my social network, Black Business Women Online, and I realized we have officially reached the 8,037 members! I can remember when there were no members, when there were a handful of members and now look where we are. Where are you today? Have you reached your 8,000 .... sales goal, dollar goal, subscribers goal, traffic goal? I just wanted you to take a moment and think about the goals you have set for yourself and how far you have come. My magic numbers for pretty much everything I do are 5,000 and 10,000. In some cases I know I've passed my goals and for others, I've got a ways to go but I'm gonna keep going and so should you! You may or may not know this, but I've gotten this far pretty much on my own, without any real investment capital, sponsors, or direction. I say all that to say that, not having things never stopped me from creating things and getting this far. I've learned so much about stepping out on faith and starting up online and I hope over these past years I've been able to share my knowledge with you. If you want to pick my brain and find out how I built my social following, my buzz, and my business online go grab my Money and Marketing Guide. I'm so excited about reaching 8,000 and helping you reach your goal I've created a new promo code for this guide. It is UMM50OFF. This code will give the first 50 who use it 50$ off the guide. I never thought BBWO could get to 8,000+ members without outside help. I never knew I was going to get quoted in Essence or become a Disney Magical Mocha Mom ... I just knew if I kept learning, growing, and going ... everything would work out. If nothing else, I hope that's something I can help you learn as well. Money and Marketing Guide includes eBooks and Videos on Selling on Social Networks, Finding Customers, Social Media Marketing, and building your buzz online. url: http://ecourses.webtechgurl.com related: audio: Find Out Why Broke is Not an Option … my interview on the Attitude Shift [click here]

Yesterday evening, I had the privilege and honor of being the guest speaker for the Women on the Move Teleconference founded by Stylicia Bowden, in which I spoke on the topic of Time Management and Business Productivity. I received such great feedback that I decided to write this blog post to share on the topic.

Early on into building my first business, I quickly learned how important it was to be organized with managing my time and I started a system for myself based on how quickly and effectively I needed to get things done, not only in my business but with my family as well. Because for me, at the end of the day, I’m mom first and the reason I made the choice to start a business was so that I could always be available to my family and for my children.

So, I’m delighted to be able to share with you, how I have set up a system that helps me manage my time most efficiently so that I can get the most done during my days to build my businesses around my family without compromise.

The first thing I strongly encourage is that you first believe in yourself. No matter what your business is, no matter if you’re a brand new business owner, a seasoned business owner or whether you are just thinking about taking that initial step towards starting a business, you have to believe in you. In order for anything to manifest from your dreams, you have to first believe in your own vision. It’s important for you to connect with your subconscious and envision exactly where you want your business to go in order for you to take the necessary first steps to getting there.

So, that should be your first step, even if your not sure of HOW you will make it happen, write down your goals anyway. Over time, this can help you develop your own road map to success. But for now, just commit to getting started.....CONTINUE READING

Ok so I just wanted to write a blog to uplift and encourage everyone out there. As women (and men) we all deal with daily struggles and sometimes things may seem a little overwhelmming and overbearing for us to handle. Some of us have children, husbands (wives for the men reading this), jobs, pets, social lives, part time jobs, etc. the list can go on and on...all of these aspects of our lives can bring unneccessary stress or an abundance of JOY. Which one occurs stress or JOY depends on what you allow to happen in your life.

Speaking only to the women now, as women we all have an inner strength that allows us to overcome any obstacle that may cross our path. That inner strength also gives us the remarkable power and ability to by pass foolishness, yet sometimes we get caught up in foolishness and negate our ability to be greater than our circumstances. The type of foolishness I'm referring to is things that we all know don't warrant a second of our time but we still spend our precious energy, time, and efforts focusing on things that will not bring any multiplication, power, strength, or JOY to our lives.

So here's what I say, I say let's take time to think about what really matters to us, what is really important, what will help us live a joyful and fulfilled life. Once we do that let's collectively decide to focus on the things in our lives that we know will help us move forward and not backward. Part of doing this will allow all of us to see what's really important in life and what we need to focus on to move forward in our life journey.

EXERCISE

As an exercise I think that everyone men and women alike should write down the things that they know are not positive and do not bring any satisfaction or joy to them. Once that list is written out don't even look at it anymore, crumple it up and set it asside. Then write a list of all the things you want to accomplish, achieve, aspire toward in life read it out loud, make copies of it and put it up all over the house in places you will always be able to look at it, reflect on it, and expound on it. Take the other list that you crumpled up that has all of the negative things and burn it up. That's right I said burn it up, but be sure to do it in a safe place that will not cause a harmful fire to occur in your home (practice safety first). Once the negative list is burned up forget about everything you wrote on that list that doesn't bring any joy to your life and focus on the positive list you created.

CHALLENGE

I'd like to present a challenge to everyone to focus on your list of positive things for the entire week. Then post a response of what happened as a result of having a positive attitude and outlook on life.

Be Blessed in all you do and become a blessing to others!

Have a great and prosperous day!

Work While Locked Up Program

Ok, before I start my own personal opinions and ideas of solutions, let me deliver the problem.

The Problem:
Incarcerated fathers/mothers that have no means to supporting their children financially.

The Facts:
  • Since 1991, the number of children with parents in prison has increased by more than 50 percent. Most of these children have an incarcerated father, but a growing number-currently 8 percent-have an incarcerated mother.
  • 1.1 million incarcerated persons are parents to an estimated 2.3 million children, Bureau of Justice Statistics
  • More than 7 million children have a parent under some form of correctional supervision, Bureau of Justice Statistics
  • Children of incarcerated parents will spend an average of 6 years 8 months separated from them, Aid to Children of Incarcerated Mothers, Inc.
My Story:
I am a single mother of a 7 year old daughter whose father as been incarcerated for almost 2 years with another 1-4 years to go. I am not single in the terms of not having anyone to help me raise my child, I have a life-partner that is helping me. (By the way my life partner is a man…I think he deserves more than boyfriend) Yet financially I still feel burdened because the majority of her financial needs still fall upon me. No, I'm not a welfare mother or a lazy gold digger…I am a hard working ambitious woman. I went back to work when my daughter was 2 months old and have held steady gainful income for over 10 years. Just over 2 years ago, I finally won my battle with getting steady child support. Yet a couple of months after that victory, I was hit with her father getting locked up. Not for for a little crime either. So I find myself here, and from the statistics plenty of other parents are here too, where my court order means nothing. Nothing but a piece of paper. While I wait for this man to get out of jail. Then what? He is not suddenly going to have a job, where he can meet his financial obligations. Thats a fact. So what do I do in the mean time?

The Solution:
I feel like something should be done, where parents that are incarcerated can spend their time working to support their children. And no, I don't want the government to pay these people using tax dollars…thats like me sending my own money. I want private companies to partner with the justice system and create/offer jobs to inmates. This job would be done inside of the jail and would have little to no impact on jobs for people that are not incarcerated. In others words, I don't want them to have to be transported anywhere or take away jobs of law abiding people's jobs. Something has to be done…something. So that I can go to my mail box on the 1st/15th and have a child support check. Especially when I have a court order. Something gotta give.

My Argument:
I am going to start by saying. I have little to no sympathy for my daughter's dad. I don't. I don't know about anyone else locked up. But him - he gets none. So my argument for supporting this "Work While Locked Up" program, is simply this. What else are they doing in jail! Watching TV, lifting weights, playing basketball, joining gangs?! I know that some people read and try to get an education. But your education is doing nothing for your child that has to live without you. Why not have something set up where a person (who cares enough) can work for minimum wages and send something to their children for financial support. It keeps a man/woman focused on doing something other than wallowing in their circumstances and makes it a little easier for single parent's in this situation.

Maybe I am seeing this too naively to think that private companies would jump on this program. But hope is a thing grown in the heart not with your eyes. Now what are yall's thought?

Twitter is one of the newest and latest social networking channels that allows you to follow the activities friends and family members. However, many in business truly wonder if Twitter can help in their business goals and endeavors. Well the answer is: “YES”. Here are a few ways you can use Twitter to help you in your business:

1.You can share knowledge daily in your industry of choice with those who can help give you agreat reputation on the web. Now a daysit only takes one person to blast your company name into the Web for the betteror for the worse. If you are beingspoken about as someone who twitters daily on business subjects that matterthen Twitter has already helped you. You can parlay the increased traffic to your daily tweets to yourwebsite. This of course can translateinto sales!

2.Many have heard of HootSuite. This is a great websitethat works in collaboration with Twitter. This site allows you to actually schedule when your tweets go out, soyou don’t have to be online all day and night, which is a great benefit forbusiness owners. This is somethingworth checking out and makes Twitter a real option for business owners. HootSuite allows you to use lists to keeptrack of those following you and is great for business owners as well formarketing purposes.
