I want to publish my book but I can't because I'm BROKE! Okay..where should I begin..I went to college for several years and all I have is an Associates Degree that many people look down upon. I dropped out of college because I'm..BROKE! frankly it was a waste of time for me in general...I went through jobs like I go through my closet. I couldn't find happiness at school and I definately couldn't find happiness with any of my former employers. I've been working on my book for five months now. Just when I want to bring it into an entity..no one wants to look at it because 1. It's needs extensive editing 2. It's not what they're looking for 3. I'm broke and 4. I'm BROOOOOOOKKKKKKKE hmmm...I wonder if I should throw in the towel and just say F*CK IT! it's not like I'll ever catch a break anyway! *Shrugs*

Awwww...It IS rough. and as cliche as this may sound..Please THINK positively. It starts with the mind! Things will come into fruition if you really believe. Don't give up though. That's the EASIEST and SADDEST thing to do. Anyone and everyone is doing that...It seems to be a hard time for many. You're definitely in the right place. I really hope that you can find the resources that you need here. Just continue networking and you never know who will find you! I wish you the best. I'm still new here and only 20 but I know that my family and I are struggling and I want to create a better future for us before it becomes too late. There's nowhere but UP!

Dear Ms. X,

Life is shit for many different reasons but only the strong survive. If you have not been able to hold a job for very long, try to think what you can do differently this time. If you are not happy, try to use the emotion to galvanise your efforts. Money is not the only reason for failure. Try to see your cup as half full and not half empty. I believe that there are ALWAYS two ways of looking at a problem. Try to find the other way. Believe that you are worth the effort. Trust that you will find a solution...Or be weak and give up!
Remember, you always have choice.

Hello,

I am a self-published author. In 2008, after my first release, sales were great. In 2009, sales began to slow down and in 2010 it has almost come to a complete halt. I spent a lot of time blaming it on the economy, but that wasn't helping my situation. What did I do? I re-invented myself - my approach to getting my name out there. I made an executive decision and reduced the price of them to fit the current market, I listed them on other networking sites, and I decided to put-off publishing the other four manuscripts until I've sold most of my current inventory. I even worked a minimum wage job to pay for publishing Fallen Angel (Mind you...I hold a Masters of Arts degree in English). A lot of authors are struggling, but you do what you have to do to stay afloat - to continue to live your dream. The only thing that I can say is, "You are not alone." I can't say if things will get better or worse for us...for you, but I will say that prayer and positive thinking will go a long way.
If getting published is your dream, then you have to work at it.

Here are a few suggestions:

1. If you can’t afford an editor, find a good critique group. Let them critique your work until it’s perfect.

2. Sacrifice your favorite things that cost funds. Put this money aside until you can afford to pay for an editor.

3. Exchange your services for someone who does do editing. Maybe you know an editor and they need a talent you have. See if you can barter your services for free editing.

4. Get you some books on editing and learn what it takes to edit a book.

5. Do not skimp on this process of publishing a book. It is the most important part of publishing a book. If you have poor editing, it will make for poor sales and you really will be broke.

6. Hit up all your friends and family and even your church. See if they will sow a seed to help you publish your book.

7. Sell some of your things on ebay, you might make enough to pay for editing.

8. Maybe self publishing isn’t the way to go. Try the small presses sometimes they are looking for new authors

9. Try turning your book into an ebook, first. Sale enough copies so you can pay for a print version.

10. If this is what you really want to do you will find the funds to do it.

No one said it would be easier or everyone would be writing. I've been at this writing stuff for 10 years, if it was about money I would have given up a long time ago.

Good luck to you and look me up when your book comes to print, I'd love to introduce you to my SORMAG readers.

First of all Hannah, you've got to believe in yourself!!!! Believe in yourself. Have FAITH!!!! You can get it done!!!! If you don't mind me asking, Why was college a waste of time? You did not say how old you were when you went to college, you may not have been ready at the time. Do you really know what it is that you want to do ? There are many writers that have faced rejection at one time or another. There are also ways to self publish. If this is your dream....NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!

REMEMBER...A SETBACK IS ONLY A SETUP FOR A COMEBACK!!!!!! You can do it!!!!!!!!!
Hey sis. Please stop saying you're broke - even if that's your current reality. We have what we say -- so only if you want to continue in the state you're in, should you continue to say, "I'm broke." Have you written down your life vision statement or business vision statement? If you have, say your vision on the regular, instead of what you currently see.

Jobs are over-rated and college is not necessarily the answer to what ails you. Do your passion! If writing is your passion or this book is your passion, pursue it. You'll find that when you speak your passion and put some feet to it, you'll begin to attract the resources that you need. Nothing is attractive about saying "I'm broke."

Let's go Sis; it's already the second quarter of the year. Let's get it done!

Love you,
Latifah
Girl, listen..... Botton line...You have to hang in there! because I know the struggle! But your time is nearing.. I know you heard and read that self proclaim message..." My time is coming! " because you're at pital breaking point, you just want to say.. f' it! But please hang in there.. Am depending on you, I need your book to make difference! Keep the faith... Hell, if i had the extra money, I would write you a check! But right now, am just trying to get out of Europe right now..I konw my time is coming ash free and all :)
I--temporarily, right now--do not have ALL the necessary funding that I need for my business projects, however, I would like to share with you I heard Joyce Meyers stated the other day...

"SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DON'T QUIT!!"
Hi Hannah,

Wow, you said a mouthful. Everyone has given you some great words of wisdom, so I will bring it from a different perspective. If you are already, ready to say f$%$ it, what are you going to do when you finally get the book published and have to go out there and promote/sell it? What are you going to do when you realize that for every "yes, I'll buy a copy," you may go through 50 to 100, "no, I don't have any money right now," or "Oh, can I get it from your website?" (which they rarely ever do)

It took me over a year to write my first novel, and about a year to write the second. My first novel was completed in late 1998. I went out and bought books on agents, and publishing, and spent hours at the library doing research. A year later I had received 100's of rejection letters, some that had been copied so many times the wording was starting to fade. I became discouraged and put the manuscript away, but my desire to publish was too big. Over the next 5 or 6 years I went through 3 editors and over $3000, and still did not have an edited book. And trust me, as a single mother of 3 I didn't have $3000 to give-away, but I made sacrifices, worked extra jobs, whatever it took. In the end I did what others have suggested, I edited as much as I could just from my own knowledge, then I had English teachers, college students, book clubs, etc, read the book and help with edits. After two years I had placed the manuscript back on the shelf.

One of my biggest disappointments came when I finally got the attention of a very popular literary agent. She told me she would consider my manuscript if I could get an endorsement from a particular published author. See, I have a cousin who is connected in the entertainment industry and he is good friends with someone who was very hot at the time. I called him up, pleaded my case and his response was,"keep working at it and you'll eventually get where you want to go." WTH! Not, send it to me and let me check it out, or I'll get a copy to her and see what she says. Even now, he has yet to scknowledge that I have published not just that book but a second, but no way am I going to let that discourage me. If anything it fuels my fire.

Finally in 2008, with the fire still simmering, I decided to self-publish. It was very inexpensive. I submitted a print-ready PDF and for $299 my book was published. Now the same company will generate proof-ready books for free. Once I had my books in hand I had a rude awakening, publishing my book was the easy part, marketing and selling is where your endurance, drive, and motivation really comes into play.

So I think you really need to sit down and truly think things through and decide what you really want to do, and what you are willing to sacrifice to get it done. If the fire is really in you, you won't stop at anything to continue this journey.

I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do and remember no one is going to believe in you if you don't first believe in yourself. Everything you are feeling right now is showing in everything you do and that may be what is hindering your forward progress.

Much Love,

Tracy

Have Faith in God believe me he will see you through, don't give up that is what the dream killers want you to do. You know God has already shown you where you are going to be and publishing a book is only one out of the many things God have for you, but he wants you to pass this test with a positive attitude so you do not have to go through the same road of "Brokeness” again so sister start speaking things into existence of what you want in your life and you will see it come to pass.

Keep your head up

Don't give up before you even get started. I very rarely hear people say that their dreams came true on the first go around. Yeah, it "seems" like your world is crashing down on you, but you have to persevere. Nobody can get through life without a few bumps and setbacks along the way. Part of your testimony will come from where you are now. Once your book is published, you will have other stories to tell that will be an encouragement to others.

I am originally from Detroit and there was a DJ who would always say "When you feel like you are at the end of your rope, reach up, tie a new knot, and keep hangin' on." If you give up, your book won't ever get published and you will always regret not ever doing what takes to get published. If plan a doesn't work, move on to plan b, then plan c, d, e f, and keep going until you get the results you want.
