Hi all!

Has anyone gone through the process of being certified as a Minority and Women's Business Enterprise in your state?

How difficult was that process? How has it benefited your business?

Thanks,

  • We're starting our certification process now...NMSDC certification opens you up to national opportunities and also the NC state HUB certification.
  • I have not gone through certification, but I plan to within the next six months.  I hear that it is a very important step, toward getting your business into stores and getting recognized.   www.hairbesilk.com

  • As a certified business owner I highly recommend that you go through the process.  My business is certified with the New York City Small Business Services & The New York State Department of Economic Development Corporations.  There are several other city and state agencies that you can certify with but these two get your foot into the door and once you certify with them, many other agencies will take copies of that certification kit.  Once you finish the process you have to go to the procurements events that the city and state has this is your opportunity to meet the people who make the decisions on who they want to do business with.  Meet, greet and build a relationship with these people.  It is worth it.  Many many city contracts are not bid on, they will go to the data base and call you so Stay Ready!
  • I haven't yet been certified, but I would like to be.  Since I make organic bath and body products, I feel the process would be very beneficial.  www.bodybesilk.biz

    • Greta, because you make organic products you might also want to see if your business can get the seal from Green America. We only recently received our certification so we're still at the beginning steps of having doors opened for us, but the organization is very well respected in the Green field.
  • It's great to see that so many people have been able to add very useful feedback to this thread. The state-specific information is especially important. Thanks!
  • Havent been through the process, but I am familiar with Minority business certification in FLORIDA... The application is extensive, but not impossible..  The benefits are indicated on the attached link...
