Hello everyone out there. My name is Roberta, I am 26 years old and I live in Florida. I am just starting my entrepreneurial journey. I am passionate about starting a concert promoting/ event planning business here in Florida but I have no idea where to start. I am looking for any advice, I am all open ears. I have been a member of the site for a couple weeks now and to be honest with you, I couldn't figure out where to start. So I just browsed everywhere. I finally decided to open up and get the advice that I really signed up for. I am really looking forward to hearing what everyone has to say and cant wait to put some of your input and advice to use. My goal with starting a concert promotion/ event planning business is to give us young adults something more to do on a regular basis besides going to the movies or a night club with a bunch of 21 year olds (no offense). I hate having a free night from my kids and nothing to do but go to the movie, I personally much rather watch movies at home on my couch, but that is just me. I have been sitting on this idea for over 3 years now and finally decided to take action. My only request: PLEASE HELP! I look forward to hearing from any and every one Roberta

  • Hi Roberta, Im Margaret

One of the things that I have found helpful when I first got started is promoting my own events. That way people in the community knew what I did and it was some free press.

What I also recommend is reading books on event planning and maybe taking some professional development classes at your local college is they have a program.

There is also MPI http://www.mpiweb.org/cms/mpiweb/default.aspx which is a organization for meeting planners that maybe of interested to you.

Good luck and keep in touch!

    • Thanks Margaret for the advice. What kind of classes do you suggest I take?
      • Event management, budgeting, promotion and whatever event planner classes that you can find, online or off.

        Good luck sis
  • Hi Roberta,

I've been perusing the forum discussions and replying to wherever I feel I can be helpful. I am a tax professional that specializes in home based and small business start-up. I'm also quite resourceful and will share with you the links I found that you may find useful.

    1) Entrepreneur.com has a very resourceful article entitled "How to Start an Event Planning Business"
    2) Internet Based Moms' Article: Start an Event Promotions Business

I also wanted to mention that some other issues you might want to consider are they type of business you plan to establish. If you visit my page, you can check out my blog posting on Business Structures. I'm not sure how much research and planning have already gone into your venture but you will want to consider forming a business plan.

Please also check out my website to see all the services I offer which include business plan writing, small business start-up, tax services, small business bookkeeping and much more.

Oh, by the way, let's continue to network. My second business is in the travel industry and I'm a Honeymoon and Spa Specialist. Who knows... some events you may want to eventually plan and promote may involve travel.
