As web entrepreneurs we often spend a lot of time talking about the various types of internet marketing strategies that will generate more visits to our sites. We talk a lot about getting those clicks, but what happens when you get them? The reality is many websites are getting clicks, but very few are able to convert those clicks into cash.
What I want to ask you is this: are you investing time or money into marketing campaigns, with little to no increase in profits? Are you promoting your site and plugging your blog and still not seeing an increase in sales? If your answer to these questions is yes then your site is essentially all clicks and no cash.
Most web entrepreneurs spend too much time and gain too little profit from advertising campaigns because they think that advertising is the only thing they need to do. Now don’t get me wrong, if you want to increase your clicks, you have to learn how to promote your website. However, when you start getting those clicks you need to take your marketing strategy to the next level if you want to see any sales or an increase in the sales that you already have.
In my latest audio podClass, I am sharing those strategies that have helped me convert clicks into cash. My full time job is generating income from my site, so I know how to make web sales. Every day I am selling products and services online in addition to making money from affiliate programs like Google Adsense. If you want to find out what your marketing strategy is missing, listen to my new podClass on the Work and Web Women Series.
It doesn’t make any sense putting all your money into ad campaigns if you aren’t going to make any profit, so take the next step to making your online business a better one. Click here to listen now.

As a long time Marketing Director, New Media, TV and film Producer and as a consultant for ad agencies and global brands, where publishers/site owners fail is not in their marketing or ability to get folks to their site, it's in giving users a compelling reason to want to visit or stay on the site once they get there! The number one thing you have to ask yourself when planning your site: why do folks want to be here? Conversions, clicks, stickiness, repeats, etc. nothing is going to make folks stay look around and explore if your site just plain sucks!
Another point (because I spend a great deal of time developing interactive and other campaigns and have managed a number of interactive projects) the ads/banners/buttons need to be compelling and they should fit the site where they are served. We often create custom banners and think of ways to integrate our own and others brands into a site. In fact, all your creativ should be well sized, fit within the creative integrity of your site plan, be unobtrusive and the like. While people of color tend to click on ads more than our counterparts do, everyone is not excited by get rich quick schemes and false claims, and tacky ad banners. Think about who you want to do business with who wants to do business with you. And just becuse you can get a #50 check from someone, doesn't mean the advertiser belongs on your site or makes sense for your readers. Furthermore, think of ways to grow that relationship with the advertiser: custom plans and promotions, integrating them in your eblasts, etc.
Lastly- I could go on forever on the subject--you have to think of how to monetize your site, sure, but if your main reason for being online is to get rich, forget it. If this is not your passion or your approach is less than savory, like a traditional business, you will fail miserably. You have to be willing to upkeep, grow, market, improve, manage-- and all that other good stuff-- your web business rather you're making $50 a month or $30K. You have to eat, breathe and not sleep thinking about how to improve the user experience, making sure things function, that the experience is intuitive and one folks will want to encourage their friends to experience. The advertisers will follow...!
