emPower, a start-up magazine that will educate and engage African-Americans through thought-provoking articles and editorial, will launch online this month.
Published by Liu Karama Productions LLC, emPower is looking for freelance writers, bloggers, editors, and videographers who are interested in using their talents to produce articles or video that will educate African-American readers on various social and political topics. We are looking for people who have the gift of telling the story of someone's life with a pen or through a lens. We are seeking the following:
EDITORIAL SUPPORT
Assistant Editor
Fact-checker/Copyeditor
FREELANCE WRITERS
Education Writer (K-12)
Education Writer (higher ed)
History Writer
Health/Medical Writer
Nutrition Writer (a nutritionist or dietitian is preferred)
Art Writer
Socio-economic Writer
Political Writer
Science Writer
BLOGGERS
Social and political bloggers (liberal and conservative)
MULTIMEDIA
Videographers for short social documentary-style pieces that will be featured on the homepage each week.
emPower will also publish readers’ poetry, personal essays, short fiction stories, video blogs, travel tales and inspirational stories.
Although we are unable to pay until emPower receives advertising revenue, contributors will:
1) have a short bio listed at the bottom of your article;
2) have a link from your byline to the contributors' page;
3) have a section on the contributors' page that will post your picture along with your name, a short bio, current/future projects (outside of emPower such as novel, personal blog, business ventures, etc.), Website (or blog) link, email address; and
5) receive a free subscription of emPower magazine (printed in 2010), as long as you write for emPower.
