Jacquie’s Organizing Your Life Tip: Pay Your Bills on Time to Reduce Stress
With the advent of online bill paying and EFT (electronic funds transfer) transactions, paying bills has become much easier and less of a chore. However, not everyone has complete confidence in these services and would prefer to continue paying their bills the traditional way.
According to the market research company, Harris Interactive, “23% of adults say they pay bills late (and thus incur fees) because they lose them”. Paying your bills late can result in many negative consequences, just to name a few:
1. Late fees
2. Low credit scores
3. High interest rate loans or credit cards
4. Denied credit
5. Denied services, e.g. utility, phone service, etc.
…..and much more.
The following are some tips to get your bills organized and help you to avoid the never ending cycle of paying them late.
• Designate a home for your bills to be paid. If you have the space, create a bill paying station. A small table with good lighting and some basic supplies, including envelopes, stamps, labels, pens and a letter opener will suffice. Use desk organizers to keep it clutter-free.
• When the mail comes in, remove the bills and place them in their designated home immediately. This will avoid clutter and prevent you misplacing them. Your bill paying station should be in a convenient place; otherwise you’re unlikely to use it.
• Pick 1-2 days per month to organize and handle your bills. Prepare a few bills at a time and make a note of the date they need to be mailed. The Deluxe Bill Organizer is an excellent way to simplify this process. Click here for more information. The Deluxe Bill Organizer
Having a system in place to keep your bills in order will relieve stress and in the long run, save you time and money.
