I think it is incredibly necessary to have such an event. I just did a paper on Black women, sexuality, and the media. I found that many of the images of black women in cinema are framed in negative stereotypes.The few positive roles that are out there, rarely get publicity, and more importantly are not seen by the young Black women coming up. Society continues to find ways to perpetuate the same ideal-that we are inferior. By promoting Black women in cinema, our way, we take control in how we are perceived by the world. I think this is great, and hope it becomes a success.
