  • I too use Constant Contact for http://lemonadestand20.com. If you want to see a copy of it I have it archived on http://lemonadestand20.posterous.com (Some of the customization was stripped though).

I've been doing email marketing for over 6 years. I've tried almost EVERYTHING under the sun. iContact, Vertical Response, Mail Chimp, aWeber, Graphic Email, Brain-something, proprietary software, etc. You name it and if it was free or under $200 I've used it. The best of the bunch is Constant Contact, by far.

It might not be as cheap as some others but you get what you pay for. The investment is well worth it. They're easy to use, simple interface, a better selection of templates and to modify them is pretty easy as well. Plus they also offer autoresponders, image gallery and archiving.

You can test them out for free for 60 days. Give them a try.

    Good luck!
    • Thank you for the information. I will check them out. I have been offereing the newsletter on my site for about a month and today I finnaly got a subscriber. Now I feel that my back is against the wall becasue I have to put something out. I have a rotation schedule in mind and articles on the site to start rotating until I develope new materials. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I will be looking at Constant Contact tommorrow and hope that I have the money to invest. Can you suggest any free sites that I can use to start out if I am not able to make the initial investment. I would greatly appreciate the information. I will also be checking out your newsletters as well.
      • I have been using Vertical Response for over 6 months after having switched form Constant Contact and I'm quite pleased with it. With Vertical Response you only pay when you send emails to your subscribers and it averages about 1 cent per message per subscriber. From a cost perspective, this works better for me as a small business owner. I liked Constant Contact but I didn't feel I was getting the value of $20 a month when I have so few subscribers and I send out messages bi-monthly. You can see where I have my subscription boxes on my website: http://mainelementlove.com/

        Hope this helps!
      • If you try MailChimp.com it's free forever for up to 500 subscribers sending out up to 5k emails per month. The design gallery is not as rich as Constant Contact but it's pretty easy to get something into it if you can get a template from somewhere else. Themeforest.net offers low cost templates that you can buy ($10-$15) and then plug those into your email marketing software of choice. Also if you google "free html email templates" you'll find articles listing free samples from around the web.

        Hope this helps!
      • I have read all of the information above and it seems great minds think alike I really wanted to know how to do this. It's crazy how you get answers to questions that you haven't asked yet!! Thanks a bunch ladies. BBWO is the best!
  • My business, ForBlackWeddings.com, puts out a weekly newsletter. We have been sending weekly newsletters since 2007. We include bridal and relationship tips. We also feature new vendors. My readers seem to enjoy them. We use constant contact. If you would like to review the archives go to www.forblackweddings.com. The archive link is located in the right column.

Tampa Bookstore Owner Loses Battle With Cancer
    Felecia
TAMPA - It is said that the world is composed of dreamers and doers. Felecia Wintons Taylor was both.
After dreaming of owning her own bookstore, she finally did it in 1992 when she opened Books For Thought, which became the pre-eminent African-American store of its kind in Tampa.

Years later, when she and her husband decided to start a charter school, Mrs. Taylor put a plan into action. Although the school has yet to open, she didn't allow inoperable breast cancer to prevent her from working toward that goal until the very end.  Continue...
Wagfest-ATL, St. Petersburg Times Festival of Reading, and Book signings

In my September Newsletter I shared with you that I was about to venture out and take my show on the Road.  I had several stops in Atlanta, including Wagfest, a networking event geared towards self-published authors and other independent artist.  My friends Juanita and Tamela journeyed with me and we had a blast in the ATL.

While there I also had two book signings.  The first was at Waldenbooks in the CNN center.  I could not believe I was that close to my "light-skinneded boyfriend in my head" T. J. Holmes.  No sooner than the thought entered my head, he turned the corner.  Woohoo! Arlington Loft

My second stop was at Nubian Bookstore.  Both stops afforded me the opportunity to meet some of the other Wagfest participants, as well as the wonderful people of Atlanta.  Click Here to view all photo's.

Also in October I participated in the St. Petersburg Times Festival of Reading.  This was a wonderful event and my hometown residents were very supportive of me and took home a great read.  In addition to the pictures I have a live interview from Wagfest, that I would love for you to check-out.

"We Can Hear You Just Fine"

First, let me start with this disclaimer. I am a woman of a certain age and it may just be me but I swear, every time I turn on the television there is a woman, usually who shares my skin tone, talking louder than is required to get her message across.

Do you remember the first season of Flava of Love? You know, the reality TV show with rapper Flava Flav, and theMo'Nique women who for whatever reason, decided to get on national television and vie for his affection. I believe this was when I first noticed it. Not only were these women on TV behaving badly but they were loud and obnoxious while doing it. Then my daughter hipped me to another train wreck in progression. This time it was Oxygen's The Bad Girls Club. I never fully understood the concept of this show. They place a group of women with pour social skills in a house together and they are supposed to learn how to deal with their anger issues. Instead, viewers are treated to an hour long screaming match that sometimes led to violent acts that lands them in jail or kicked off the show.  Sigh.

Showing Gratitude In the "Although" Moments of Life

I have a Facebook friend who posts the same question everyday. "What 5 things are you grateful for?" I'll be honest and admit that I have never posted a comment. Why, I do not know because I am grateful for a lot of things, like good health, family and friends. The other day I received my Streaming Faith Devotional. These are religious based devotionals that go out everyday and focus on a weekly topic. Of course, this week's topic is "Giving Thanks." The devotional that inspired this blog came from Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church.
In his devotional "The Moment of Thanks" he encourages the reader to not only give thanks for the obvious things we are grateful for but to also give thanks for the things we take for granted in life.

There are so many things that we complain about on a daily basis but if we were to take a second, or perhaps, third look at the things that transpire within our lives everyday, we'd find a lot more than 5 things to be grateful for. I will call this my "although" list.
