Get Outta The Way!

Yes, I said it. Get outta the way! Get yourself out-of-the-way of YOURSELF!

We all have goals or at least attempted to set goals. Goals from getting in shape to getting that degree. Most times, we are our own stumbling blocks. We set our goal(s), write them down, begin with a sharp focus and then what happens? We begin making excuses. The excuses range from family issues, work issues, money issues, blah, blah, blah. What we have to realize is that these excuses are not ok. They are verbal stumbling blocks to our demise. We have to stop it and just get outta of the way of ourselves.

How shall I do that? Well, I’m glad you asked. Here are 5 tips to get YOU outta of the way.

  1. Face the truth. Facing the truth will help all of us. I know it helps me when I face the truth. Admit it. You know you are your own stumbling block. You know that using the excuses that you have been using are less than legitimate. They are lame to say the least. Honestly confess what’s holding you back and then set your mind on moving forward. You do know that confession is good for the soul.
  2. Revisit your goal. Dig deep and uncover why you set the goal in the first place. Is this goal, in its original state, still viable? Does it fit my current “now”? Maybe re-working the goal into your current “now” is something that can be done. Don’t just give up on the goal, just adjust it so that it works for you, now.
  3. Plan it out. Take time to develop a plan to reach your goal. It does not have to be elaborate but it does have to be a plan. If you don’t make a plan by breaking down the goal into small workable steps, then chances that you’ll stick to reaching your goal are slim to null. So take time to write it out. Even it you have to, get some paper that would motivate you visually. Or, if you are a techy, then put it in your PDA. Hey, whatever works!
  4. Make the re-worked goal a priority. Yes, I mean give up the television, the social media networks, surfing the web and any other thing that is not in alignment with reaching your goal. If getting your side business up and running is your goal, then watching people on television who are already making money won’t help you any. Simply turn off the television and pursue your own goal and pursue it daily. Yes, do a little something to reach your goal on a daily basis.
  5. Celebrate. Take time to celebrate your success in a way that continues to support your reached goal. Don’t do the opposite like going to eat a dozen doughnuts after losing 10 pounds or something like that. Really think about a way to reward yourself that continues to move you forward. For me, getting my blog up and running was a priority for me. I am now celebrating by posting my very first blog as B Excellent, Inc on WordPress.com. Yes, I have finally gotten out of my own way.

Until next time – the Queen of Excellence has spoken.
