I want to get a high number of people who read my newsletter. I'm only getting 1/3 of the people who signed up for the newsletter to actually open it.
How do you track or ensure people are reading your newsletter?

Sometimes we beat ourselves up over nothing. One third of people actually reading your newsletter is a great percentage in ad numbers.Think of yourself and the Sunday newspaper. Unless you are looking for a specific item or just to spend money, do you look at all ads? No. But, if that need comes up, unconsciously, your mind has taken it in. You remember they had a bike on sale at Walmart. Ads and information work on a conscious and subconscious level. That's why businesses advertise often and consistently.
Continue to do your newsletter. Continue to add more people, because some will drop off. When the person has a need you can fill or even a referral, they will contact you. You will have branded yourself. I am a Mary Kay consultant. I send out a monthly email featuring products and specials. It took a lady one year to contact me. She called. She told me I have really enjoyed your newsletter, now I would like to become a consultant like you. This just happened 2 weeks ago.
Every once in awhile have something they can respond to. A contest, a riddle, trivia, etc. I send out an email last night on my Mary Kay end of year sale. About 63 emails. I listed the product and prices, but ended by saying hit me back to just say Hi!. I got one sale this morning. I also heard from a good friend ( I'm in the Army Reserve) who is now stationed in Korea, just saying Hi. Priceless!!
Thank you for the words of encouragement. I actually got an email today from a lady saying how much she loved the newsletter. It confirmed what you just said. Thanks again.
I use Constant Contact. I do look at how many people opened the newsletter however the number is low compared to the amount of people I send it to. I have been working on using better titles. I really include good information in the newsletters however I need to get them to open it.
First off what provider are you using? Most
provide the capability for tracking.
Next actually you're getting a good percentage as the actual opens aren't real high.
One thing you must make sure is that your subject attracts their attention. Most will not
open if the subject line is not interesting to them.
Does your provider allow for personalizing the subject line with their name? This may help
increase the open rate also.
Are you able to spam proof your newsletter. The provider I use actually provides
a meter that shows the potential for my newsletter/ezine to be classified as spam.
