Ideas?

Hello, everyone.

My name is Candace Nadine Breen and I am the CEO and Founder of Candidly Candace, Inc., a women's advcacy group which also has a radio show. I taught English in the Providence Public Schools for 11 years until a violent incident at the school which threatened to end my life and the life of my unborn child sent me home with PTSD and anxiety. I am currently on ordinary disability from the school system which is a blessing. During the time away, I enjoyed motherhood and being a wife, I finished an MA in Human Services,Counseling and began my radio show which led to my business. I also managed to write and get my book "Running Waters: The Poetry of A Woman's Soul" published on Amazon (due out MArch 2010).

I am thinking of how to change my company to make it more profitable. My first year was stressful. I had too many events. I am thinking of hosting one benefit a year (since I am not a nonprofit) which is a walk-a-thon in May. I have also began to sell my Empowerment bracelets...Lance Armstrong style design (pink with the words grooved into the bracelet). I am thinking of just selling empowerment merchandise and continue my books. I currently work form home because I am a mother with young children. Any ideas of how I can expand my business and sell and market merchandise? What are the great places that can help me with virtually selling and distribution of merchandise?

  • You should try one of the free sites like Etsy, Cafepress, or Zazzle for your products until you're profitable. Once you you see there's a market for your product then spend money on a website. Until then, a blog will do.

Have you done any keyword research yet? What has it told you about your audience? Product? Competition? If you haven't done so already.....do it now:

    • I only have two products but am looking for a company that can allow me to create a product and connect my website to an online store that will showcase my products. I am trying to sell products such as books, empowerment bracelets and things that are related to empowering women.
  • Hi Candace,

Are you a newbie that has a websites, but like most misunderstand how to capitalize on the technological investment? Or maybe you need a website to assist you with ways to advertise your business and generate new customers. Like any other tool, if no one knows about your business, it does you absolutely no good.

There are two good reasons to have a website

    1. To better serve your existing customers. Allowing your clients to browse your current products and services is a great reason to have a website. Include affiliate opportunities, links to your blog and answers to frequently asked questions to enhance your relationships with your customers.

    2. To generate new leads. You can find new leads via web marketing, but it may not be as easy as you think.

Here are some tips to make certain your current customers know about your site:
    * Print it everywhere! Your website should be in every ad, on your business cards, stationery, envelopes, flyers, all your promotional materials, and in your signature of every single email you send out (personal and business).
    * Say it everywhere. All your phone messages should direct people to your website. Every time you take a call, let people know about it. When you introduce;yourself, mention it; TWICE!
    * Give prospects a reason to keep visiting. Make something worth coming back for on your site - give them something of value.
o Publish your favorite ebook, give away a video of free marketing tips, or invite them to an online event like a webinar.
o Give great weekly tips. Publish it on your webpage, making sure you have permission for any information you use
and give credit at the bottom of the page. For example "Information courtesy of..."
o List testimonials, then email the your prospect to let them know they are published on your page.

To generate new prospects, you'll have to learn to market on the web. Here are some tips Since the web is global, you never know when you may connect with someone and what country they are from. However, you must have a plan and know your niche. Keep your online marketing targeted with your niche in mind when narrowing down your choices.

Optimize Your Website. This means two things:

    1. Write a list of keywords that your prospects might use to find you online when doing a search on Google or Yahoo and then use them within the text on your entire website.

    2. It also means writing the best content possible for your website. Be clear about what you do and how you can help your prospects. The search engines will automatically "crawl" your website and then reward you for your hard work by increasing your rankings so new leads can find you faster!

Become an online expert. Writing an articles and posting relevant content on a blog, can help establish you as an expert. It will add perceived value for your current prospects.

Don't waste your money, when you can find many ways to do internet marketing for free! Just remember it takes time to get knowledge and to get on a roll.

You can learn the ins and outs of web marketing and be much better equipped to direct your marketing campaign.

    Wishing You Much Success!

    • A little overwhelming but thanks so much. I appreciate the time it takes to reply.
  • Peace and blessings to you Candace. I'm sure that you are going to be very successful and make loads of money over the long haul because you are alive. = D I also want to applaud your decision to use your time of convalescence to build your business so that you can continue to be home with your children. Lastly, I want to congratulate you for your other accomplishments. There is no doubt in my mind that you are destined for great success - just relax. = ) If you autograph a book for me I will be happy to purchase one to support you.

Forgive me for not reading your profile in depth, but without knowing what your group advocates (healthy relationships, self confidence, freedom from abuse, parenting. . .) I am not able to give you more precise advice. However I suggest that you DO NOT change your company for money. Since it seems that you have reached a level of success as you are you only need to tweak a few things. For example:

    > During each of your radio broadcast, you can promote an item related to your topic for sale, and have that item available on your web site all the time.

    > You can have a resource table filled with things you sell available at each event. (If your event schedule is taxing for you, definitely cut back. Your health and sanity are essential to your business growth and your family's well being)

    >Find sponsors, find sponsors, find sponsors. Most will be happy to pay for an opportunity to be featured at an event or during a radio program; but they probably won't come to look for you.

    >Take advantage of free help. Start a Valunteer organization that is tied to your business. You may be amazed to find out how many people would love to help you. . . . Let's especially remember family and friends who want you to succeed just so they can brag about you.

    > I would say no to a walk-a-thon because they are getting played out. But how about a serious old school dance-a-thon? Or maybe hosting a Bones (Dominoes) or scrabble tournament.

My point is to think of something that you can benefit from WITH OUT taking you off of the square that you've already established for yourself; and that your your current constituents can benefit from and be happy to support. I hope this helps.

    In joy - - - Andrea Fields
P.S. There are so many people and organizations that are simply reaching out for money that I think your financial growth will come from building in strategies and campaigns that are a natural extension of what you already do.
    • Thank you SOOO very much, Andrea. You've definitely helped to stir thoughts within me. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'll be more than happy to autograph a copy of my book for you. It will be available on Amazon towards the end of next week but for this week only, you can go to my website (www.candidlycandace.com) and purchase one for $10.00 . You'll have to hit the "donate" button and fill out the fields and make sure to indicate you want yours signed (you can email me the request at cohoyo1@yahoo.com). My book's title is "Running Waters: The Poetry of A Woman's Soul."

You've helped me so much. I am going to print out your reply so I can have it to refer to. Oh, thank you. It is very important for me to be here for my family and at the same time, be successful in my endeavors to set an example for my children. We're trying to raise good Christian children and are also trying to save for our kids to go to the Christian Academy that is part of our church.

      peace and happiness,
