As we prepare to enter the holiday season there will be lot of parties and mixers for you to attend. We recommend that you go to as many as you can, but while you're in attendance spend your time specifically looking to meet people who would be good alliance partners with you. A good alliance partner is someone who is already getting in front of your target market with a complimentary or non-competing product or service.
Do a specific assessment of who you know that is a good alliance partner for you already and fill in any gaps in your network by focusing on meeting the folks not already in your network. You may also want to assess whether the relationship with current alliance partners is productive for both of you and if not look to replace it with a fresh relationship unless you feel it can be revived by reconnecting with that partner, which is always preferred.
Don't spend your time trying to tell holiday party attendees all about your business. Spend your time getting to know more about their businesses, and prepare to get together one-on-one with them after the holidays where you can really get to know each other and explore the possibilities for becoming referral partners.
Internal Spam Concerns:
For those of you who are concerned about the frequency with which people you have connected with are contacting you with promotions and offers concerning their products and services there is a very simple remedy. Please visit their profiles and click the link under their picture that says remove connection. The only people who can message you with a mass message are people who you are connected to. If they are abusing that privilege simply dissolve the connection.
If enough people see their connections diminishing from removals it may provide them with valuable feedback about how their marketing messages are being received and that may cause them to re-evaluate how they go about building relationships.
Have a great weekend everyone.
