Hi Everyone,
I have a close friend who is dedicated to helping others. Because I have a daughter with Autism I find myself living vicariously through her. Shelley is an active member of Habitat for Humanity, and travels twice a year to underserved countries building villages with Habitat for Humanity International. Volunteers, athough giving of their time, efforts, and sacrifice being away from their families for up to two weeks, must pay their own travel expenses.
HFH, International will be going to earthquake torn Haiti in August and Shelley has signed on to go. Her travel expenses are $1200 and HFH is asking for an additional $2500 donation for supplies and other humanitarian efforts. I am going through every channel available to me to ask people to contribute. Even if its only a $1, it will help her reach her goal. She is really pressed financially because she went on a mission to Kenya in March and was already planning for another build in October. Because of the major devastation in Haiti she feels compelled to go and help.
We can't all stop what we are doing to travel to foreign countries, and many of us wouldn't once we learned of the conditions in which we would be staying (they do not stay in world class hotels); but what we all can do is contribute to someone who can make the sacrifice and get the job done. Here is the link to learn more and to donate. http://www.wearehabitat.org/people/shelley-ulmer
Thanks in advance,
Tracy
