LONDON — Public funding org the U.K. Film Council has launched a
search engine for films that allows users to find out where any film
is legally available in the U.K. across all formats and platforms.
FindAnyFilm. com indexes all available films in the U.K. in cinemas,
TV, DVD and Blu-ray, sale or rental, download or streaming.
The site, which already contains more than 30,000 unique film records
and will be expanded on a daily basis, is divided into 20 genres,
including drama, action, foreign-language and Bollywood, as well as
more creative sub-headings, such as mood, location or keywords.
FindAnyFilm. com will also contain films in more than 60 different
languages, including Japanese, Hindi, Arabic, French and Cantonese.
"This new site is going to transform how consumers find the films they
want to watch," said Peter Buckingham, the U.K. Film Council's head of
distribution and exhibition. "We have turned what was often an
incredibly time-consuming, frustrating process into one that is much
easier for film fans to see films in the U.K."
The site's technology is based on the Google search appliance
technology, which aggregates info from more than 1,200 different sources.
