About Me:
My name is Renée McRae and I am a Teaching Artist, Performance Poet, Life Skills Trainer, and Motivational Speaker. (A mouthful - I know.)
All my life I have searched for answers to the "Who am I?" "What is my purpose?" and "What's it all about?" questions. In that quest I changed careers (jobs) often. I went to school for, and started out as, a legal secretary. I then went on to become a real estate sales person, limousine to the airport driver (yes, and my mom wanted to know who puts the bags in the trunk?), marketing director, customer service manager, public relations director, and network marketer (and I'm sure I've left something out).
Somewhere along the line I started receiving answers to my frustrating questions - through Poetry. Huh? I would be standing on the subway crunched up between people (on my way to a job I couldn't stand) and words would come to me. I couldn't write them down (no room) so I would memorize one line at a time mentally saying "Stop - Wait!" I'd go back to the beginning, recite in my mind up to the last point and then receive more. This process went on all the way to work. Sometimes it would happen in the car while I was driving (with no pen, of course!). Crazy, right? Every time it would happen, I'd get home or to work - or wherever I was going - with a fully completed poem (what!?) and the answer to whatever question happened to be bothering me at the time! And people want to know "How do you memorize all of those poems?" Necessity.
Along the way, poetry helped me raise my two daughters (graduates of The Juilliard School and St. John's Univ.), my husband contributed a rhyming name (McRae), the poems became a book (Truth In Rhyme), I've been published in about 8 or 9 anthologies, and I founded Poetic Motivations LLC - and my purpose! I am now devoted to making a difference in the world by helping people find their purpose - through poetry! Oh, and let's not forget God - God delivered the final blow.

"What are you afraid of? Why do you live a lie? Don't you know the world is yours? It's time for you to fly! Ask of me! - I'm crying out. Your word is my command! Don't you know I'm here for you? Why can't you understand? Your questions I respond to. Your needs I do provide. How else can I assure you, that I'm right here by your side? I've held you in my loving arms. I've carried you over the hump. I'm the safety net beneath you, and you're still afraid to jump? What's happened to your faith? Could it be easier said than done? My Child, there's nothing that's impossible, for you and I - are One."
