Bhutan's most famous monastery, Tiger's Nest, or Taktshang Goemba, hangs on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. It is said that Guru Rinpoche flew there on the back of a tigress to subdue a demon. To reach the monastery – after an hour's hike up the mountain – visitors must descend 400 steps and then climb up 200 more steps.
