Hello everyone, I would like to try to create my own online store. One that I can create with ease and update as I please. I have looked into GoDaddy.com, Homestead.com, and a few others. Are you using a do-it-yourself web builder for your online store? If so, what site did you use and why? Thank you, Carmen

  • Hi Carmen,

I use Weebly. It is free and has all the bells and whistles to get you started. Of course you will need paypal to receive money. When you start up on Weebly, if you need help I'll be glad to assist you.

  • Hi Carmen!

You're exactly right, it is more informative to talk with others than customer service. Sometimes it seems the reps for a company only want to say whatever necessary for the business. But I do want to share my experience. I use webs.com. They have tons of templates and they do have the ads, but I pay $99 a year for my package with no ads, a free domain name, 5 email addresses, and the option to change from the template offered to coding myself (which is what I'm learning, but am not ready to turn my site over on only what I know for now). Two things I really enjoy is that I have options on who to set my shopping cart up with; likewise how my shoppers pay. I can use the webs.com cart, paypal, or others--I use mercantec. The other is that webs.com hosts as well. Check it out. They've got user-friendly apps to add to your site with ease also. My site is below if you'd like to take a peek!

Best of luck on finding the right company for you...that's really all that matters!

    Have a great one!!

  • Hi Ladies,

    Avoid Vistaprint for websites!

I had a client who lost his domain name because he set up his website using Vistaprint and when he had Vistaprint set up the site, he did not outright own the domain name. So when he wanted to redesign the site, not only could I, or any developer, access his FTP information but I had to tell him that he had to get a brand new domain b/c the one he used to setup his site with Vista Print was owned by Vista Print. I don't know if others had a similar experience but be careful. NEVER register your domain name with the same company you want to do your web hosting with. You don't want to get screwed over in the long run should you decide to change your website later.

Also, Vistaprint is ok for printing but you should also look into www.printplace.com. They are great quality and I think way cheaper than Vistaprint, unless you're ok with having your business card branded on the back by Vistaprint (with their free business card offer).

  • I decided to go with hostgator.com. I am now waiting for domain name to be linked, I'm excited!
  • I have learned a little more about hostgator.com from the owner of http://dr-flower.com. Her website is pure perfection and she used a template that came with the very inexpensive package. I also chatted online with a hostgator rep. and she was able to answer all of my questions. I'm finding that talking to actual people that have created their sites is way better than talking to customer service.
  • I absolutely agree. Those are optional you don't have to have the google adwords on the ones I sent you that was my option. I have a google adwords account that's just another avenue of income for me. If someone doesn't want to purchase anything they just may click a link from your site and you get paid for them clicking. But let's not get into that. I hope some of this at least helps in some way! Much Success to you!

Thank you Melody for your suggestions. I'm using etsy.com for right now. The problem with using free websites is the ads, such as the google adwords on your page. I do not want those.

    Happy New Year!
