hello ladies...i have someone working on seo services for me but my problem is i don't know how to gauge the success and justify the fees. i don't have a problem with paying anyone for the service(s) they provide for me but there doesn't seem to be a list anywhere that tells me what the going rate/fees are and if the work being done is producing....thanks in advance for the advice!

Hi Rae! Rank Checker is a free Firefox extension that will allow you to check where your website ranks for certain keywords and phrases you specify. I assume you and your SEO have established goals as far as what keywords and phrases you would like to rank high for. Rank Checker will allow you to quickly check your search engine position for the words you are targeting to see how you are progressing.
Also, Google Analytics has a great report that details what keywords are being used to find your site. I find this to more helpful because you want to know that those keywords you are targeting are actually bringing you traffic. If I am targeting "make up with natural ingredients for African-Americans", it's great to know that I rank in spot #5. More important to know whether that phrase is actually bringing me visitors. This will determine whether I should continue targeting that phrase or not.
Well, the best thing about SEO is that it is something YOU can verify if it is working or not. One of the big things about SEO is that it takes time and it doesn't last forever. i.e. you webpage once completed is done. SEO is an ongoing process to maintain your ranking. This involves the content you create on your site, meta tags ( which are keywords search engines use to know what your site is about), links to/from your site, and visitors. It requires research because you have to balance the keywords people type in google and the highly competitive nature of those keywords. So for example, "handbag" is a highly competitive keywords because it is veryyyyy general. However, "handmade tote bag" is more specific and might have more space for you to be at the top. Honestly a going rate or service I have not seen yet. When I am charging people I take into account how much content they produce, what industry they are in, and how much of a niche they are. This will help me to determine how much work the project will be. I hope that was clear and I didn't get all geeked out on you :) If you want me to clarify things drop me a line! I'd be happy to help out.
