How Effective is Your Website?

You've finally figured out the SEO thing and word-of-mouth marketing is starting to pay off.  Monthly, traffic to your website is increasing.  How exciting!

Yet, very few phone calls.  And, still no orders.

So, what is happening?

Your website is not effectively converting your visitors.  Each and every web page should have a call to action which should guide your visitors further along the buying cycle.  The call to action may be to submit a form to request additional information, request a quote, sign up for your newsletter or place an order.

"Well, how do I know which web pages are ineffective?", you ask.

The answer is Analytics Software.  Most good web hosting companies provide basic analytics that allow you to assess your website's traffic.  Some will also try to get you to buy additional packages that you don't really need, so be careful.  The most important metrics to measure are:

  • How many visitors accessed a page?
  • How many converted or clicked through?
  • How many left that page?

With this valuable information, you can determine where you are losing potential customers.  Is your marketing message clear?  How strong is your "What's in it for me?" (WIIFM) message?

Armed with the right tools, you can not only attract more visitors to your website, but you can get them to respond to your call.

  • I definitely agree with everything that you have stated here. Your companies SEO is very important and to know how much traffic is coming to your site through analytics is key. My question is that: If you have all these tools (as my site does) we haven't seen the type of business that we would like what other tools help to bring in orders, or request to sign up for our e-newsletter? Thanks :)
    • Thanks for the feedback, Jessica. To answer your question, two important groups of people come to mind: web designers and professional copywriters. A good web designer can help you to strategically place information on your web pages so that it catches your visitors' eyes. For instance, the first place most people look is in the top left of the page. Also, you want to put your most important information in the upper portion of the page so that your visitors don't have to scroll to see it. A great copywriter can help you craft the perfect WIIFM message that speaks to your visitors and elicits the response that you desire.
      • Thank you.
