About Me:

I am now focused on reinventing a "new me." In that spirit I wrote “Fairy Dust and Purple Moonbeams,” which is meant to be a metaphor for my life. Twinkle’s story is a story to which many can relate. Twinkle was encouraged to follow a distinctive path, while abandoning her dreams and the desires of her heart. However, I truly believe dreams do come true. FAIRY DUST AND PURPLE MOONBEAMS Once upon a time, there lived a little girl named Twinkle, fondly known as Wink. Her momma gave her that name because of her brilliant, star-kissed eyes. A sparkle in her right eye and a glimmer in the left. Twinkle was a sugar and spice, itty-bitty thing, who spent lots of time alone. She loved paper dolls, pixie sticks, and all things in between. Her favorite pastime was playing with her coloring books, coloring as she pleased. Rarely staying inside the lines, Twinkle thought she made the images bigger. Making them come to life. Freeing them to leap off the page. But Twinkle was raised up to honor her elders and their wisdom of the world. “It wasn’t safe for a girl chile to take such risks,” they thought. “Whether colorin’ or livin’, it jus’ won’t do.” So in their way, bit by bit, they slanted her view of life. Closing the book on her childhood, she played it safe, as her kinfolk had advised. Making sure she had something to fall back on, Twinkle joined the regular work-a-day world. All the while, knowing she was meant for greater things. As time went on, she plodded along, eking out an unremarkable life. Trying to endure. Trying to survive. Trying to be happy. Before long, her job went kaput. She sold her worldly belongings and meandered from pillar to post. Soon enough, her eyes started to dim. They say, “the eyes are the window of the soul.” And Twinkle’s eyes saddened, as she lost the fire inside. One night as she was sleeping, tossing and turning in bed, her fairy godmother whispered in her ear, “fairy-dust-and-purple-moonbeams-help-me-grant-this-chile-her-life’s-dreams.” Let me tell you! Upon awakening, something had changed in our girl. She’d had an epiphany. And a pretty big one at that. “Wink, stretch outta yourself, girl. Time’s a wastin’.” Twinkle’s getting her own life now. Sometimes, taking baby steps, but always moving forward. She’s learning to become more of who she was meant to be. True color’s coming back to her dreams and light’s returning to her eyes. Having just exhaled, Twinkle’s now ready to seek her true path, dust off her dreams, and of course, need I say…live happily ever after. By Diedra G. Hicks

  • Hello again,

Please check out this month issue of The Adventist Times www.theadventisttimes.com/.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month www.nationalbreastcancer.org/default.aspx

Do use the month of September to find a way to support the Breast Cancer Movement, even if it's just to increase your knowledge.

View the Breast Cancer articles and video segments. Encourage your loved ones to schedule their mammograms for October, and remember to do Self -Examinations. Early detection is key!

Breast Cancer is not just a woman's disease; men should examine their breasts as well.

I've received TONS of requests to re-play the interview with David and Tamela Mann. She's so pretty!
    Well here it is...ENJOY!
