About Me:

EVANGELIST DENNESE M. HOPSON Ministering the gospel in comedy, speaking and teaching the word with her evangelism is nothing new for Evangelist Dennese Hopson. For over 20 years she has been speaking the gospel but never knew it. She was the only girl out of four boys. This Brooklyn, New York native, was raised in Chicago, IL and Raleigh, NC. Her ministry began at St. Charles Lawanga Parrish where she realized her Love for GOD. It was at this Catholic Church where she started singing at five years old. She loved singing with her choir and the Girl Scout troop at Liberty Baptist Church which she joined after she left the Catholic Church. She always had a passion for singing. This was another way to express her praises to her Abba Father. After singing her praises and being a lover of God for years; at 10 she dedicated her life to Christ while she was there attending school and church. To date, every time Dennese watches the notorious movie “Sister Act” she laughs and feels proud. She reminisces of those proud days singing and shouting the Lord’s praises with her choir back in her church back home! Many artists attribute to her love of music. To name a few, The Winans and the Hawkins Family singers. Just before her 11ith birthday, later in that year she began attending Liberty Baptist church in Chicago, IL on the south side of town. There the late Pastor Rev. Jackson, Sr. baptized her. The church is now overseen by his son Rev. Darnel Jackson Jr. A few years later, Dennese moved to Raleigh, NC with her mom and brothers. Then her parents divorced and this was a traumatic time in her life. As a result, she became rebellious because she was daddy’s girl and she missed him dearly. Lo and behold her promiscuity got her impregnated at the age of sixteen. However, her determination and ambition portrayed still permitted her to finish high school and graduate early. Subsequently, she went on to St. Augustine’s College to pursue higher education with a concentration in Business. During her freshman year her education was interrupted with yet another ordeal. Due to a tragic accident her innocent daughter died at the ripe age of two years old. With the grace and mercy of God he kept her through it all. In an effort to go far away for therapeutic reasons to get a new start. She regrouped and went on to Kentucky to Job Corp. Still searching but not finding herself, she obtained six different trades. After all her heartaches and pains, she learned all she could during her stay. When she least expected it, God was right by her side and she was presented with numerous opportunities to minister to her class mates. Afterwards, she was awarded with a scholarship to go back to school. She went on to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and attended the Kellogg Business School. Then she ended up back in Raleigh after first making an independent living in Chicago for herself first. After Dennese endured the pain and despair through her many years of life’s struggles. She recognized how she was sustained through the challenges and decided to commit her life to God in 1988. This was a turning point. She was serious about God however; she just wasn’t ready for total submission in every aspect of her life. So life went on and she followed her dreams. She had always desired to be a performer and speaker that would travel abroad to encourage people in laughter and speaking. Opportunities prevailed. She accepted and made a name for herself in the industry. During this time although she knew the lord, her spirit and flesh played tug of war. THE FLESH OVERULED!!! On a part time basis she had a career as a comedian on Def Jam. Then she also performed numerous times at a prominent Stand Up Comedy Club in Chicago, called “All Jokes Aside.” She was hilarious no doubt but, as in most worldly settings the vulgarity was included in the act. Then after her mom went to one of her shows and frowned on the harsh words she spoke, Dennese decided to honor her mom as the Bible says and decided to go back to her roots, the church. She began to soul searched and then rekindled the love for drama and motivational speaking she once knew. It originally got ignited in her childhood at Liberty Baptist Church and with the Clown Ministry at Wake Chapel Church under Pastor Wilkins. So it was easy for her to fall back on it. She continued to minister to all walks of life from the streets to college. If you crossed her path she counseled you. Then she decided to become a Life Coach so that she could minister and counsel people. Temporarily on the outside this appeared to be fulfilling but, deep down she was still lost and had a void in her heart. Years went past and Dennese went back to the south. During the next important phase of her life Dennese did what most women believe is the ultimate dream come true. Believing that marriage was the missing link, she exchanged vows in 1991 with the man she felt that God sent to her. They had been childhood friends since she was eight years old. The newlyweds live in North Carolina and Chicago. Besides GOD, her husband was her world. They tried numerous times to have children and never were successful. She had many miscarriages and still births. In 2002, her husband decided that he was not happy and found someone else. Until recently they stayed married over sixteen years. The termination of her marriage caused her to have many stress attacks. She later became pregnant and hospitalized. She was elated because this was her chance to have another child after her loss. TRAUMA struck her again!! She had an ectopic pregnancy. The procedure afterward landed her in the hospital for one and a half years from August, 2003 to April, 2005. This was the third turning point in her life for sure. Realizing that God was keeping her here for a purpose after nine surgeries and flat lining five times (code blue); HE (GOD) had her full attention. She made up in her mind to totally submit herself to HIM and do a work for GOD. While in the hospital several patients, employees, visitors who crossed her path were touched by her love. She was a walking testimony and her light was truly shining for God. Many people dedicated their life while talking and visiting her through her ordeal at Wake Medical Center. Others accepted her invitation to church and attended a service. One particular doctor had never been. He said, “She is a miracle!” He became a believer and went to church for the first time. Minister in the making....... Evangelist Dennese was birthed! After being under the teaching of Pastor Dumas Harshaw, Jr. she accepted her calling in 2008 and decided to continue to go forth and use her gifts. While traveling and ministering the gospel she trusts God to pull her through any personal challenges and illnesses. She knows God brought her through in the past because he has a purpose for her life as an Evangelist. She has now committed and submitted her life and accepted the change willingly. When she let go and really Let God, her life made a complete turn around. Now Evangelist Dennese Hopson uses her talents and gifts to equip people with love, a spoken work and laughter. As an up and coming author as well Evangelist Dennese realizes she is being blessed with a new beginning in life. Not only does she plan to minister from the podium but in writing with her future publications. God began to open doors that seemed impossible at first. By faith she embraced the promises of GOD and followed her vision from God. (II Corinthians verse 20 –“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” The dream that was dormant was now reborn when she lit her fire for the ministry God prepared her for during all her trials and tribulations. She has learned that you can’t justify the mistakes in your life. You just take heed and learn from them. You cast your cares unto God and realize that there is no condemnation in Christ JESUS. (Romans 8:1 - “Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” God is a forgiven God and press toward the mark he has laid for you. (Philippians 3:14, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus) Evangelist Denneses’ desire is that people of all ages will listen and be inspired by her testimony as she utilizes her gifts and talents to impart Laughter for the Soul. Proverbs 15v15 – “All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.” It is her desire to do what God has chosen her to do, and bring joy, hope and peace into everyone’s life. She encourages God’s people to be real with them selves and talk to our Abba father. She approaches her audience with realness and she has a spoken word with a touch of clean comedy added. She delivers it the way GOD gives it to her. Now, she realizes that she has been speaking the gospel all her life. She now understands her calling and knows she is on her path to righteousness as Evangelist Dennese Hopson. Her philosophy is; Walk in the Light that is set forth and you shall see and hear the rainbow of life because he will not stray away from you. Keep your ear to his words and ye shall succeed. Her comedy is inspired by her grandmother Kat in NY this is where “MA Dukes” was derived. Many of our grandparents from the old school gave us tough love to keep us in line. She does the same on stage with her real straight forward approach. Hebrews 4v12 “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” She is inspired by Minister Joyce Meyers and patterns her speaking style after her. Her spiritual mentor is Rev. Lowery who helps her to continue to grow in love and patience as well as her Uncle Rev. Lamont Blackmon. Lastly, she gives honor to GOD for keeping her and all the vessels he placed in her life to impart the knowledge of him over the years. She is forever grateful each day and prays that her ministry leaves and reaches souls with a word for situations in their lives at the appropriate time and place. And, that the lasting impression she leaves will let the light of God shine and leave each person hungry for more of him.
