I was reading the newspaper the other day (in between wiping down my little'uns with a cool washcloth and supplying paper and crayons) and came across this article on bartering. I have referenced the link at the bottom of the blog post. Basically the article outlines how the depressed economy and rising unemployment are causing people to exchange services rather than services for cash. At worst, there is an ad on Craiglist where a man writes he will paint for groceries, and that many business participate in a formal services exchange program.Have you ever bartered for services? As long as both parties are in agreement about the value of the services exchanged, then bartering can be beneficial for all involved. For those of us involved in the Buy Black Collective, this is something to think about! Here is the link for the article: http://www.mycentraljersey.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2008806100341Please post any comments you may have!CeeCee
Hey CeeCee, we actually talked about doing this at the Buy Black Collective's first meeting (I won't ask where you were...cough cough ;) ) We all agreed that it's an excellent idea, and one worth trying out!
These are the signs of changing times. I think that bartering is a progressive move. The value of the u.s. dollar is dwindling, and it is definitely a plus to make connections with those who you can exchange bare essentials with. Also a good time to gain basic skills to barter with.
Love the fact that you added your banner to your posts! :) I just read someone's review of NeoSoulEssentials, very happy to see that you are generating great reviews and a positive buzz! -lh
I barter from time to time. In exchange for some admin assistance, I did a website for a virtual assistant. I given free advertising to bloggers who post my ads via blackgirlclick. And the most common barter of all, link exchange.
I think provided you enter an exchange in which both parties are ok with what they are getting, bartering is great.
Interesting article too... makes me feel sad for them but at the same time happy to have established BBWO as a way for us to build our own businesses inspite of the hard financial times that we are living in. -lh
