Dear Sisters,Please know that your son, brother, father, uncle, friend was given birth to and raised by an African American woman who was a single mother raising 3 children in Harlem, The Bronx and then Teaneck NJ. I learned a great deal from my mother, who passed on 2/11/08(RIP), in terms of sacrifice, love, perseverance, joy and pain. I have been happily married to my wife for almost 13 years and we have been together for 16. She is very dark skinned and was teased throughout school because of it. I was taught by a relative and mentor Chaka Zulu Rameses, a Garveyite from Harlem at an early age the beauty of the Black woman and he would show me pictures of the Egyptian/Khemitc Goddesses and Queens such as Nefartari, Nefartiti, Maat, Auset (Isis), Het Heru and learned of the Queen Nzingas, Harriet Tubman’s, Sojourner Truths and sisters right up until this very day such as Winnie Mandela, Susan Taylor and many of you who are independent and striving to be great successful entrepreneurs. So I dedicated my song and poem entitled "Ms. Melanin" to the Black Woman first to my wife and then I decided to expand my promotions so that it would reach as many sisters as possible and make them feel good and inspired.Yes, I am a poet and recording artist and would like to make money like most of us, but I would never force a poem or song just to make a profit. I have songs and poetry on various subjects. My music is from my heart and soul. I hope you enjoy it and help me spread the word! One Love!Your brother Kamal ImaniPeace, light, success and abundance.
Thank you for your reply and you are right. I was just thinking about that. Sometimes in trying to unite with people in the music/poetry/business world, some start feeling threatened as if they are going to loose whatever it is that the "possess". I'm learning to truly try to be with people of a like mind and to build my spirituality up more so that the negative people whom I come across will only be positively affected by me and not me by them. It's not ego, it's just different vibrations that people have.
I feel you my brother. I raised four sons alone and they are all very artistic. One is a producer, one is a song writer and also records, one owns a modeling agency and he also sings, produces and writes. My oldest son can sing but he has chosen a non artistic life. He lives a simple life on the waters of Louisiana but he's happy. I am blessed in knowing that your heart is the heart of a true poet. Many times a poet is misunderstood and his or her works thought to be "vanity" but being a poet and knowing the heart of a true poet, I beg to differ. We are a different people. We see the best in things that seem to be the worst. We see beauty where there are only ashes and we can see what use to be in what is becoming and we can transform it all into love. Because poets are in essence, the spirit of Love because God made us that way. We are decendents of the tribe of Judah and we were created to be creatures of praise.
