The Strong Black Woman Has DiedWhile struggling with the Reality of being a Human instead of a myth, theStrong Black Woman passed away.Medical sources say she died of natural causes, but those who knew her know she died frombeing Silent when she should have beenScreaming, Smiling when she shouldhave been Raging, from being sickand not wanting anyone to knowbecause Her Pain mightinconvenience them. She Died from an overdose of other peopleclinging to Her when shedidn't even haveEnergy for Herself. She Died from Loving Men who didn'tLove themselves and could onlyoffer her a crippled reflection. She Died from raising Children Alone. She Died from the Lies her Grandmothertold her Mother and her Mother toldher about Life, Men & Racism. She Died from being sexually abused asa child and having to take that Trutheverywhere she went every day ofHer Life, exchanging thehumiliation for guiltand back again. She Died from asphyxiation, coughing upblood from Secrets she kept trying toburn away instead of allowingHerself the kind of nervousbreakdown she wasentitled to.She Died from being Responsible, becauseShe was the last rung on the ladder andthere was no one under her Shecould dump on.The Strong BlackWoman Is Dead. She Died from being a Mother at 15and a Grandmother at 30 and anAncestor at 45.She Died from being dragged down andsat upon by un-evolved Women posingas Sisters and Friends. She Died from tolerating Mr. Pitiful,JUST to have a Man aroundthe house. She Died from sacrificing Herself forEverybody and Everything whenwhat She really wanted to dowas be a Singer, a Dancer,or some Magnificentother. She Died from Lies of omission becauseShe didn't want to bring theBlack Man down. She Died from Tributes from her counterpartswho should have been matching Her Effortsinstead of showering her with dead wordsand empty songs. She Died from Myths that would not allowHer to show Weakness without beingchastised by the Lazy and Hazy. She Died from hiding her Real Feelingsuntil they became Hard and Bitterenough to invade Her womb andbreasts like angry tumors. She Died from always lifting somethingfrom heavy boxes to refrigeratorsAll By Herself. The Strong Black Woman Is Dead. She Died from never being Enough of whatMen Wanted, or being Too much for theMen She Wanted. She Died from Being too Black andDied again for not BeingBlack enough. She Died from being Misinformed about herMind, her Body & the extent of herRoyal capabilities. She Died from knees pressed too close togetherbecause Respect was never part of theforeplay that was being shoved at Her.She Died from Loneliness in Birthing roomsand Aloneness in Abortion centers. She Died in bathrooms with Her veins bustingopen with Self-Hatred and Neglect. And Sometimes when She Refused to die, when She just Refused to give in, Shewas Killed by the lethal images ofblonde hair, blue eyes, beingrejected by the OJ.'s, theQuincy's, the Cuba's,& the Kobe's.Sometimes, She was stomped to Death byRacism & Sexism, Executed by Hi-Techignorance while She carried theFamily in her belly, theCommunity on herhead, and theRace on herback! The Strong Black Woman Is Dead!Or Is She?-Writer Unkown

  • Bump!
  • I am glad you enjoyed it! I always found this one to be very powerful, speaking on all the various issues Black women face. Very provocative approach to what's going on.
  • Nice poem. Thank you
