What Hit You Hard Enough To Change?

Once in awhile its good to reflect on those things that motivated us to be who we are today. For me, I have an Aunt that always called me on the phone and didn't just shoot the breeze with me about the kids in the neighborhood, but she spoke to me about my future goals. At the age of twelve she sent me information on investing in Stocks (it was a children's guide).

Coming from a family that barely had enough money growing up, my parents and my extended family always made sure that my siblings and I knew that we didn't have to struggle through our adulthood. The day, I read about the stocks, something clicked in my mind. From then on, I decided I was going to be a veterinarian/ entrepreneur. I was going to open up a chain of veterinarian hospitals called "Pet Palace". I actually had my plans of where the locations were going to be, and why I wanted it in a particular location." I guess that was my first business plan!

Well, needless to say, I started out as a biology major in college, figured out math was not my thing, and in my sophomore year, decided to become a film major (which I loved) / get in trouble (which I regret).

After graduating and getting married at 19 and having children a year later, I ended up backing out of the entertainment industry. I got my focus back on track and remembered that children's stock guide that my Aunt had sent. By the age of 21, my husband and I decided to buy our first house. The next year we started our business, but not "Pet Palace". We began investing in real estate and started our own LLC. Now we have expanded our company into a Real Estate Investing Consultant Company serving both buyers and sellers. I wonder if the thought of investing would have ever crossed my mind if it hadn't been for the "Children's Stock Guide"...........

So now that you have my story, I have a few questions that maybe a few of you could answer, or even ponder on (although I prefer the feedback if possible).

  1. What was the one thing that someone said or did for you that without a doubt positively changed or changed the course of your life?
  2. How did you respond to it initially?
  3. How long did it take for a positive change to be in effect?
