In 2006, an idea to create an "all-star funk band to celebrate that Minneapolis Sound of the ’80s, made famous by Prince and producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis at Flyte Tyme Studios" evolved through manager/agent Jeff Taube’s mind and was told by industry know-it-alls that getting such prominent musicians together in one band would never happen. Determined, Jeff made some calls and in the mist of rehearsals with these chosen musicians, one climactic meeting would introduce the world to, THE TRUTH! This collective consist of former and current members of powerhouse bands that include: St. Paul Peterson (The Time, The Family) on bass, vocals, guitar & keyboards; Jellybean Johnson (The Time, The Family) on guitar; Odell on vocals & guitar (Mint Condition); Jerry Hubbard (The Time, Jesse Johnson) on bass, keyboards, guitar & vocals; Chance Howard (Prince, The Time) on bass guitar, bass synth & vocals; Kirk Johnson (Prince) on drums & vocals; Eric Leeds (Prince) on saxophones, keyboards & vocals; Donnie La Marca (Jonny Lang, Bobby Caldwell) keys; and Kip Blackshire on lead vocals (Prince).The Truth is simply that…"THE TRUTH!" Bringing us covers of classic funk from bands such as Cameo, the Ohio Players, James Brown and the Funkadelic infused with the jams from the bands they so infamously represent.Their fan base continues to grow like wildfire since debuting at Trocaderos in Minneapolis last month (February). They recently recorded their debut release live at the Kinetic Playground venue which will be released worldwide.
