Minority Business Certification

What is the purpose of seeking certification? Certification will increase business for your organization. There are several certifications available to women and minority business owners. Certifications are granted on the local, state and national level. There are various certifying agencies. The certifying agency will require that you complete an application and in most instances pay an application fee. If your focus is to obtain contracts with corporations, realize that not all certifications are recognized by all corporate supplier diversity programs.Be mindful that certifying agencies will investigate the business owners to ensure the applicant (s) possess at least 51% of the company, significant knowledge of the area of operation and actively involved in the business, with the power to direct operations.Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) - Minority Business Enterprise certifications are granted by local and state governments as well as national organizations.Women Business Enterprise (WBE) - Women Business Enterprise certifications are granted by local and state governments as well as national organizations.Disadvantages Business Enterprise (DBE) - Federal program designation used in conjunction with US Department of Transportation (US DOT) funded projects and contracts.8(a) & Small Disadvantaged Program - The Small Business Administration (SBA) assists small businesses and small disadvantaged businesses compete on Federal contracting opportunities through their 8(a) and Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) programs.To learn if your organization qualifies for one of the certifications and to obtain assistance in completing your application, email us at coach@aliveincorporated.com.
