The Brotherhood/Sister Sol’s annual benefit is hosted by Ms. Soledad O’Brien, special correspondent for CNN/US. The honorees included Hon. David N. Dinkins, who received The Ella Baker & César Chavez Award for Positive Community Development. Ms. Rosario Dawson received the Frida Kahlo Award for Innovative Creativity, and Dr. Cornel West received the Baynard Rustin Award for Social Justice.
This event addresses the dire need for supportive programs for Black and Latino youth who are surrounded by the poverty, drugs, violence, racism and mis-education which plague America’s cities. The Brotherhood/Sister Sol provides these youth with the knowledge, resources, opportunities, and love necessary in order to understand and overcome these negative pressures as well as the skills to combat them.
