At the beginning of the night when the numbers weren't going the way I wanted them to, I was feeling a sense of sadness not just for me but for our country. I was just praying that race wouldn't cloud the thinking process of the voters and the most qualified candidate would prevail by the end of the night.I stayed glue to www.7online.com throughout the evening keeping a watchful eye on the changing numbers while cautiously clinging to hope that America was going to show the world that we are truly ready for the change needed to bring us back from the brink of destruction. I knew deep within my heart that we couldn't afford another 4 years of the failed politics that the past 8 years has rained upon us.As the numbers began moving in favor of positive change for this country, I was still sitting in utter disbelief because I was trying to grasp the enormous possibility of what was about to take place within my lifetime. At around 11:00pm I heard the newscaster say the words, "Channel 7 is Ready to Project that Barack Obama is the Winner of this Presidential Race!" I sat there not believing what I just heard, but when John McClain came on the air waves approximately 15 minutes later to graciously concede the race to Obama, that is when I was finally able to breathe a sign of relief and finally realized that yes, America has spoken loud and clear that we are ready for a change and that change was in the form of a eloquent, intelligent, well-spoken African-American male.I don't know about anyone else, but I heard the loud roar of my hard fighting dead ancestors who clearly paved the way for this day, many with a premature harsh death as they joyously celebrated in their final resting places. As I watched the large joyous crowds composed of all nationalities and races around the country, I remembered the words of Martin Luther King predicting that with all of our struggles and hardships, we would be reaching that Promised Land. Now it is time for us to unite as a people and work together to bring America back to what our forefathers wanted this country to be. We have elected the right leader poised to take over the reins come January 20, 2009, but he will need all of our help.God truly blessed America, Tuesday, November 4th, 2008!!! Let's rejoice in this blessing and roll up our sleeves and begin the healing process.Arlene
