February Spotlight ~ Veronica Conway I had the pleasure of being invited to a webinar several of days ago by Brenda Eason of BBON. The webinar was entitled Black Mastery Breakthrough. I didn't listen to it immediately, partially because I am sometimes sensitive to racial topics. I don't believe that we should let our race determine what we are capable of, and I didn't want to listen to a webinar telling me why being Black is a henderance or why we have it so hard. But then I remembered where the invitation came from...Ms. Eason, so I knew it was something I didn't want to miss! After the first 5 minutes, I knew that Veronica was someone I wanted every person I knew to have an opportunity to meet and be moved and forever transformed by her words. Veronica was born the child of a former Black Panther who was incarcerated when she was six years old. Prior to her father's incarceration she had to attend school under an alias, she witnessed police shootouts and experienced death threats against her life because of her family's association. At age 18, during an argument with her mother, Veronica experienced what she now calls identity trauma; when she discovered that the (white) mother who raised her for most of her life, was not her biological mother. she searched out, found, and reunited with her (black) biological mother. This was and still is a pivotal moment in her life as it set the stage for her inquiry into what it means to be human, and the meanings that people assign to commonly used words like mother, black, free. Veronica has revolutionized the world of human transformation and peak performance.Veronica is a successful entrepreneur and founder of three coaching companies, including the Black Professional Coaches Alliance, the only coaching organization dedicated to the rapid psychological breakthrough of people of African descent. She is the co-founder of Phenom Consulting International, a company that provides life and media strategy for the entertainment and athletic industries. She has coached everyone from truck drivers to CEO's athletes, artists and celebrities. She is the creator of the provocative manifesto The Black Paper, as well as the first audio program ever designed to transform victim thinking in the African-American community, the Black Mastery Success Program.
