Success is never accidental. It is intentional and happens divinely on purpose. Success is the direct end result of a 3 step equation:
Vision + Planning + Execution =Success
Looks and sounds pretty simple, right? Well, I won’t sit here and say you won’t have variables along the way because you will and in the world of project management we even make a plan for that too. But in some ways, reaching success really is that simply. And this is how we do it:
- Create the vision. Visualize the life that you. Determine what success looks like in your world and write it down.
- Create the Plan. Plans are simply an outline of how we are going to get to where we are to where we want to be. You must have a blueprint for your business. Even the most skilled architect does not begin working on a building without at the bare minimum sketching of a design. Your plan or design for your business must be written down and easily accessible. Plans are mean to be modified as needs and sometimes even visions change.
- Execute! Let’s face it, what good is a plan that is just sitting on your desk or on a computer file and it isn’t being executed? Put target dates by particular goals within your plan, in project management we call those milestones. And most importantly, get to work! Having someone to be accountable to is always great way to insure milestones are being meet and you are on target to reach your goals.
Without a clear vision, proper planning and execution you will find yourself spinning your wheels and spending countless hours and pouring countless resources into a black hole. Many of us have heard this particular bible verse at some point in our lives:
Proverbs 29:18 “Without a vision, the people will perish”.
The same holds true for your business. Without a vision, without a plan, without proper execution of the plan – you will not reach the level of success that you say that you want.
As a small business owner, no one says you have to do any of these steps alone. Develop a team of like-minded friends and family to assist you. There are also wonderful companies, such as Empress (I know shameless plug), that will help you define your vision and create your plan, and will provide support through the process.
