Success Begins And Ends With You

“Success is more than a journey, it is a frame of mind.” – Erica M. Johnson

I hear people say all of the time that they want to be successful, but what does that actually mean? The world seems to have its own definition of success, which may mean having a lot of money and being well known. But do you really have to be rich or well known to be successful?

The answer to that question is for you to decide. But I would like to challenge your thinking and open your eyes.

So, what does it mean to be successful? According to dictionary.com:

Success

–noun

1. the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors.

2. the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like.

3. a successful performance or achievement.

4. a person or thing that is successful.

5. Obsolete. outcome.

So now that we have defined success, the big question is: “How do you get it?”

Success begins and ends with you. Right now at this very moment you are successful. Regardless of your situation or how much money you have in your bank account, you are successful. People often feel that they need to wait until some imagined perfect moment, or until they reach a certain amount in their bank account, or a certain status in their career to say that they are successful. You are successful NOW!

Success is a frame of mind. You know the old saying, “You are what you eat.” Well, you are what you think! It is a known fact that your thoughts control your actions. When you think of success think of yourself.

Define your own success. Every time I coach a client they say that they want to be successful. In my experience no one person’s definition of success is the same as another’s. Success to one person may be earning $80,000 a year, being able to take two vacations a year, and spending time with family and friends. On the other hand, another person may say that success is becoming a millionaire and being able to experience all the finer things in life. And they could care less about spending time with family and friends!
