I was recently approached by someone who tried to recruit me into a company that I had no interest in. The product she was selling didn't appeal to me personally. I felt that if I didn't believe in the company and I can't be passionate about the product, then it would be hard for me to convince other folks to buy it or join the business. She was very persistent and tried to change my mind by telling that this was a groundfloor opportunity and I would kick myself later on if I didn't get in now. She also told me that once I saw the money coming in, I would change my opinion. I told her I totally disagreed and re-emphasized that I still wasn't interested.I would like to know how many folks feel the way I do and are in business doing something they love or are passionate about versus just being in a business for the money.D

  • Erica, at least you had the decency to say you aren't interested in the business. I've had folks contact me for information about one of my businesses and some even told me they wanted to sign up. When I tried to follow up with them, they would never respond back or won't return my phone calls. The crazy thing is, they are business owners themselves. I hope they don't handle their own prospects or customers in the same manner. I think this will be a new blog topic!

  • Thank you all for your great comments! It was as if the woman I spoke with was so caught up in the amount of money she could make if I joined that she didn't even consider me and what I wanted. She even quoted something from Napoleon Hill stating that the wealthy and wealthy-minded didn't take long to make decisions, but the poor and poor-minded took a really long time to make decisions. That's when I told her I didn't have to wait at all because I really wasn't interested. That's when she got desperate and told me to give it a few days to decide and do some research about the company because she didn't want me to make a rash decision. LOL

    I totally understand where you are coming from -- it's a shame though -- the way I see the situation is the person who approached you suffered from a SEVERE lack of training.

    She not only turned you off about the business opportunity, but if this is the way she approaches everyone, she may be out of business as well.

    So many of us don't succeed in our respecitive businesses (MLM) because of lack of training from our upline and/or organization. As a result, the representative takes desperate approaches to obtain business partners only to NOT train their downline simply because they don't know how.

    And we wonder why no one is making money......

    Anyway, Dierdre -- thanks for sharing that story with us.

  • Deidre, I agree as well. You have to be passionate about something in order to introduce your opportunity to others. As with most opportunities everyone says it's groundfloor which some of them are and some aren't.

    As for being desperate about the approach I would have to disagree with that comment. Maybe she was so excited about it that she just wanted to share what she has experienced. Not all opportunities will allow you to prosper without the team support and some people are just go getters which she just might be. You do however have to have a passion for it otherwise you can fail. It does take teamwork in any network marketing opportunity and it's not always about making money off of you but together which is why so many people miss out on getting involved with things. It's never too late but you just miss out on getting positioned in a place you could have been. I believe that no matter what when it's our time to be successful it will happen.

  • Deidre, you and I are right >>>here<<<. The reason I left my 9 to 5 five years ago to start my virtual assistance practice was so I could be happy with more flexibility and doing what I loved--and for that reason, I made sure I only worked with projects and clients that stimulated and inspired me. It wasn't about the money, because I believe in doing what you love first--and the Universe will then ensure that the money will follow. I mean, if I'm going to be miserable doing something, I might as well go back to the 9 to 5, lol!

    The woman who approached you seemed as though SHE was desperate, herself--I believe she wasn't doing something she loved. If she truly believed in the product, she wouldn't have had to try to cram it down your throat the way she did--she would have been confident enough in it to allow it to speak to you on its own merit, if that were to be the case.

    So, yes--I agree, and you did the right thing. You have to be selective, in order to allow room for the right blessings to come your way. That's been what's kept me going strong, in both my personal and professional life.
