Can I Borrow $5

Can I Borrow $5? A woman came home from work late, tired and irritated, to find her 5-year old son waiting for her at the door. SON: 'Mummy, may I ask you a question?' MUM: 'Yeah sure, what it is?' replied the woman. SON: 'Mummy, how much do you make an hour?' MUM: 'That's none of your business. Why do you ask such a thing?' the woman said angrily. SON: 'I just want to know. Please tell me, how much do you make an hour?' MUM: 'If you must know, I make $20 an hour.' SON: 'Oh,' the little boy replied, with his head down. SON: "Mummy, may I please borrow $5?" The mother was furious, 'Ifd the only reason you asked that is so you can borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being so selfish. I don't work hard every day for such childish frivolities.' The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.. The woman sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money? After about an hour or so, the woman had calmed down, and started to think: Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $5 and he really didn't ask for money very often. The woman went to the door of the little boy's room and opened the door. 'Are you asleep, son?' She asked. 'No Mummy, I'm awake,' replied the boy. 'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the woman. 'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the $5 you asked for.' The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you Mummy!' he yelled. Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.. The woman saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again. The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his mother. 'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the mother grumbled. 'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied. 'Mummy, I have $20 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.' The mother was crushed. She put her arms around her little son, and she begged for his forgiveness. It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life.. We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. Do remember to share that $20 worth of your time with someone you love. If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of hours. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. Please don't break this even if you only send it to one person. Thanks

  • This really hit home being a single mother. At this moment, I am sitting at my desk at work in the middle of the night wondering how much longer will it take for me to be at home at night with my children, being the one to put them to bed at night and not being so exhausted in the morning time to enjoy them before it's off to school. I don't get to enjoy that quality time with them the way I want to. I really have to kick it up big time. I don't know how much longer I can stand not being able to enjoy the simplest things of being a mother and enjoying my kids without feeling totally burnt out. Pray for Me!
  • That was a sweet story. Definitely makes you think about work-life balance and how important spending quality time with your family is.
  • This one really made me think about my babies. Sometimes even when we work from home we can be too busy for quality time. Thanks for sharing.
  • Wow, that was deep as another posted said. I am a stay-at-home mom who also works, when work is available of course. I gave up a thirteen year career about five years ago so that I can come home and finish raising my four children. Two of them have since grown up to the point that they each have their own four walls, four wheels and a steady income. I am so thankful to be here for the last two because they are just 13 and 11. With things the way that they are in our society where children, if left to their own devices, can get into a world of trouble, it is truly a blessing to be able to be here for them. They spend most of their time at school or either out at the local library, but rest assured for the most part, when they are home, I am home with them. I look for every opportunity to instill life lessons into them as they encounter situations in their young lives. Even though my finances aren't where I would like them to be, the rewards of "working" for my children and knowing that they will become better men as they grow up makes it all worth it.
  • I don't think you have to work from home to have a balanced mother-wife-professional woman life. I am working mom and I know my daughter would rather be home with me, however I make the time at night, in the morning, on the weekends to have quality time with her. Reading her a book and saying a prayer with her every night. Talking on the way home from school. Taking her on special trips. I think its important for me to have both career and family. You have to know how to divide and conquer all of you responsibilities in your life, both work and your kids. Its all about priorities.
  • That's deep, thank God I work from home. My son is only 6 months but I plan to be here for all his dinners, lunches and breakfast.
  • Read your email, then this message, so I'll be the first to bite and say...

This is why I decided to work from home about a decade ago!

Being there for my children, the next generation, isn't something that I can afford to take for granted. It's my hope that more parents are able to find the time to be there physically, emotionally and spirituality for our little kings and queens.
