Feeling Discouraged

Making jewelry is my passion. Yesterday I had a jewelry party at my home and NOBODY showed up who promised they'd be there, well this is the 2nd time it has happened. I think my jewelry looks just as good as the jewelry in stores. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but at this point I honesty feel like giving up and moving on to a different craft! I have so much jewelry I could open a store.

  • I carla, do feel discouraged.  I started a shoe business only to find that the company was a scam and I had to start all over again.  But now I am back and better, and I am getting more calls about the business now that I did when I vested all my time energy and resorces...Sometimes, we have to sit a nd be still while God work it out for us, the way HEnteneded anot the way we want it.  Be greatful that God has blessed you with a talent, and that it will be used to bless others.  Keep your head up, Have you considered online parties? Let me know that is something that may interest you, email me at shoediva616@gmail.com
  • You are welcome Carla.  This is what it's all about.  To support one another and to learn from each other.  I am thankful to LaShanda for providing this venue for us where we can share and inpire.  Just keep in mind that you have to get pass your family and friends and surround yourself with other who can help you to grow your business.  Family memebers can only buy only so much.  When I decieded to launch my cosmetics in January of this year, my brother told me everything that was negative.  I took a deep breath and pressed along.  For my launch, I invited someone from the magazine to cover the event.  It was that said magazine someone from the promoters of The Toronto ReelWorld Film Festival saw and asked that my products be given to the stars in their gift bags.  That was the begining of something beautiful for me.  Follow your passion and continue to pray and ask God for directions.   He will give you all the tools you need to be successful.
  • To: Ms. June,

Thank you for your response and I went to that link and omg thank you for pointing me there. That is just what I needed to hear it was certainly powerful!

  • Carla I have to agree with June.  I too make jewelry and have been hosting parties and the same thing.  Those that promised to come never showed.  I had a talk with my best friend today because I get the feeling sometimes as if I'm stuck.  I thoought to myself it's time to change my surrounding.   Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

    Keep it moving.

  • Hello Carla,

I do understand the feeling.  Its human for us to feel and get discouraged, but NEVER loose sight of the burning passion you had when you first started.  It was like that for me too when I first started, but I quickly realized that the people around me God put them in my life to confirm what it is that I wanted to do.  After I received that confirmation I had to move on from them and surrounded myself with others outside of my family.  The people around you can only get you thus far, it's time for you to make the big move.  Its though, but keep praying and God will continue to give you his guidance.  I will share this link with you, this was what got me through and made me realize my purpose.  Be strong and God bless.  click on this site and on the left click on editors message, below you will see an article called "A Vision Without Support"  http://www.elitemag.ca/

  • Thank you ladies so much everyones response has been greatly appreciated and the tips are just awesome.
  • I can understand how you feel!  I just started with Scentsy, I'm scared to have a party, so I'm doing word of mouth.  I've gotten a couple of sales.  Do you have a website, are you advertising online?  I was thinking maybe here on mybbwo should start a shopping club to support each other.
  • Have you tried other venues? I am also a jewelry maker and I have set up tables at flea markets, rummage sales, listed through online sellers such as yardsellr, bonanza and my own personal website. Are you on facebook? I am in several jewelry groups there and would love for you to join and maybe pick up some tips. I also have a pdf on having a jewelry party in my documents I could send you to see if maybe you could pick up some tips.
