May we all keep moving forward

Saw this today and needed to pass this on to others....

A couple weeks ago, I was offered a corporate job -- it was right outta the blue. What a surprise! My first thought? “No way! Give up mybusiness Forget it!”

Then, in a hazy memory, I caught a whiff of something. I drew air, deep and long, into my nostrils. Ah, the smell of money!

I pondered it: a consistent paycheck. A daily routine. Paid vacation! But the more I pondered, the more I saw what I’d give up:

• A live based on what I love doing

• Total freedom to run my business my way

• The flexibility to balance my personal and work life

Of course, I said yes – yes to myself, to my business and to my entrepreneurial life.

Why do I share this story? To encourage you to continue on your pathway – whether business is booming or lagging. And if you’re struggling? Consider this:

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” – Thomas A. Edison

  • June and Lavada- I can truly relate to both of your comments. I worked in corporate America for over 25 years, got up, went to work, did my job, got raises, promotions, awards etc. I managed people, watched them flourish and then when the economy turned.. I watched it all chip away. Now I was in the print media industry so I saw the change coming- so I started my business before I left- put capital into my business while I had money coming in, started making connections and testing my product. So I was prepared..so I thought..nothing really prepares you for the long hours, isolation and that scary feeling of failure. But with faith, good support systems and a strong will to succeed, I'm realizing the trade off of freedom, control, being my own boss, and sometimes working in my cute pj's has been worth it. I still have my moments, but networking with others in-person and online has now replaced the water cooler conversations and 5 o'clock happy hour. Thanks for connecting and let's continue to support each other!

    Blessing to you
  • Hi Vanessa, Thanks you so much for sharing this. I am currrently working fulltime and at the same time running my business. I am also considering quitting my full time job to give my business 100%. Your post have certainly put me one step to making my decisions. Thank you so much and all the best
  • Thanks Vanessa! I am actually facing a similar situation. Many of us associate money with joy and happiness and we think if we have more of it, we will be better off. And, a steady paycheck is very tempting, especially if your business is struggling financially. What I have found is that nothing compares to the freedom and flexibility of being your own boss. As I'm still in the start-up phase of my business, I am working more hours than I'd like. But, I know that, in the end, it will be well worth it as I will have more time to spend with my loved ones without having to answer to some employer for the time I take off. And, to me, those long-term benefits are worth much more than the short-term promise of a steady paycheck.
