Dr. Evelyn Bethune Interview with Professor Michael Dinwiddie
Please join us next week for a talk with Dr. Evelyn Idell Bethune. If her name is familiar It is, the name, Bethune Bethune shares in the name and legacy of Bethune-Cookman's founder Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune who is her grandmother. It is the dedication to education exemplified by her grandmother that has directed Dr. McLeod's lifelong pursuit: "Everything we do has a direct relationship to the faith-based concept of 'educate to serve.' Education is our center of gravity. Education is our point of departure and our ultimate destination." For Bethune, her ultimate destination is the Mary McLeod Bethune Legacy Preservation Institute, which she established in November of 2010. With the mission to take the legacy of her grandmother to the next level, the Institute focuses on the promotion of education and community service.
