Up Close & Personal with ArtDeal

Friday evening I sat down and open my mail that came that day. One of which was a letter from my bank. They were informing me about the changes that are coming. “News Flash” I don’t do well with changes with my financial institutions. Every bank I have been with either raise their fees so high it didn’t pay to keep my money with them or got brought by another bank. The first change they are doing is increasing the ATM fee when you use your card at an outside ATM. The closest branch is an hour bus ride away. So I would have to spend $5 (or $2.50 if I ride down and come right back using a transfer) just to get some cash. One of my bank’s recommendations is the cash back option when I swipe my card in a store. The other is to either open or to switch to a different type of account in which ATM fee is waived (which may required a high balance to avoid a maintenance fee).

The other changed is starting December I will be charge for getting paper statements. That got me thinking, I know I didn’t switch to online statements but I can’t remember the last time I’ve gotten a statement from them. I was too busy this weekend but next weekend I will be going through all my papers to find the last statement I received. Anyway I logged into my account and switch because I know I forget.

I say all of this because (continue reading on to found out how my mini rant ends)

  • Thank you. I always go back and read that article in your magazine. It's timeless. I haven't start tackling the household expenses. I will be cutting down that cable bill. We don't need three boxes, I hardly use mines. I want to get rid of it and maybe re-sign up to Netflix or something. Now If I can curb my dinning out, I can save and learn to eat more healthy.

  • I think we are swimming in the same boat right now. All of these changes and expenses. I agree you've got to eliminate all the clutter, as a matter of fact yesterday I reduced my cable package by 30% because all of that extra wasn't helping my bottom line. As entrepreneurs we have to be smart with our spending and learn how to keep more of what we make. Nice article. -lh
