I know by now you know that I was at Blogalicious the weekend before last. What I haven’t mentioned was the theme of this year’s conference: Making Masterful Connections. Besides connecting with the brands that were presented, we were encouraged to make connections with each other.

If you are shy and introverted like myself, attending and networking at a big conference may be nerve-racking. I don’t have a magic formula to help you get over that (not yet) but what I can say is that the more events of this nature I go to the easier it gets. Sometimes you just have to put yourself out there.

Rejection: Get Use to it!

As owner of a growing business there are a lot of benefits to look forward to. Like working for yourself, setting your hours, MAKING MONEY, and helping people with whatever you're offering. One thing we don't look forward to while building  business are the rejections. Always hearing the word "NO". Not only can this word be disappointing but effects the growth of some businesses. Although this word can be upsetting to hear often, you have to get use to it. Rejection is apart of the business package. Think about it, never have you heard of someone having a 100% close ratio. You have to learn to bounce back from rejections and not take them personally. In fact, the way you respond to rejections may effect the customers decision. Use some of the following suggestions from Greg on sellingandpersuasiontechniques.com on what not to do when overcoming rejections.

1) Never but never argue.

Even if you are right you'll probably lose the sale.

2) Never, but never attack the person.

Separate the person from the objection and deal with it as apart from them. If you fight a person's feelings, more negative emotions will emerge and you will lose! (Not a good Rapport building tactic)

3 ) Never assume you understand an unspecified word

When overcoming sales objections if a prospect uses a word that is a Nominalisation.don’t start answering until you first understand their meaning. ( Briefly, a nominalisation is a word you cannot place in a wheelbarrow, it’s a concept not a tangible thing.)

For example, if a prospect says: “I need versatility.” Don’t start talking about flexibility or the range of products you have or your payment options because that may not be what your client is talking about.

Better to ask: 'Could you explain to me what you mean by versatility?' or

4 ) Never Insult the Prospect

Let’s look at an example.Prospect: 'Your prices are too high.'

It would not be very smart to reply with, 'Aren’t you interested in quality?'

You could reply with:“High prices compared to what?” or you could soften that with,“I understand your concern about pricing, we all need to ensure we’re competitive in this modern world, and could you tell me who or what you are comparing us to in making that comparison? ”

5 ) Never Avoid the Issue

'Quite frankly, your service is useless.'

It would not be right in overcoming sales objections to change the subject or talk in theory about what is good service because you are dealing with an emotion here. The client is obviously angry or frustrated when the use a word like “useless”. You need to help them vent their emotion.

Much better to stick with the issue, 'Obviously something has happened to make you feel that way. Can you tell me about it?'

You need to do your best to establish and maintain Rapport in these situations.

6 ) Don’t Shift Responsibility

When there is a problem don’t try to blame it on your office staff or your delivery people. Think about how that is perceived by your customer. Your customer will only understand that you are dodging the blame. What your customer wants is for someone to accept responsibility and fix the problem.

You need to be responding with “We….”, to show that you stand with your company then with “I’ll fix it.” The “I” bit is important as you are the company in the eyes of your customer and if you have any sort of relationship with him / her they will feel more comfortable knowing the person who is looking into it for them.

7) Never, but never make the person wrong.

When overcoming sales objections never make a person wrong because you will create an enemy.

Making the person wrong is not a good Rapport building strategy.

8 ) Never Contradict the Prospect

Prospect: 'You guys always seem to be having production problems.' Mistake: 'No, that's not correct. We had some problems when we upgraded the plant two years ago. Did you know we have not had any downtime in the last 18 months?'

A better reply would be: 'Yes, we had some production problems when we upgraded the plant and currently the plant is running flawlessly, in fact, it’s been running like that for the past 18 months. Can you tell me if you have experienced any delays so that I can investigate further?'

In the second reply, the sales rep acknowledges the prospect's perception of a problem. Remember, first you meet them where they are and then move them to where you want them to be.

9 ) Don’t dwell too long on an objection

When overcoming sales objections don’t dwell too long on an objection because you will amplify its importance in the mind of your customer. Better to answer briefly. Your answer should be just long enough to satisfy the prospect, and no longer.

10 ) Never guess an answer

When overcoming sales objections don't guess at an answer. Admit you don't know. Say: "I'm sorry, I don't have the answer to that question, but I promise to get the information to you."

When you actually get back to them with a reply, this will show you have the courage to admit what you don’t know and that you “walk your talk” and follow through on your commitments. This can only improve the client’s perception of you.

Now you know what not to do.

The 10 responses were written by Greg from sellingandpersuasiontechniques.com. Keep your reactions in mind when doing business. How you handle situations can determine how much your business grows. Keep in mind that EVERYONE in business encounters rejection. It's how you handle it that makes or breaks your company! Food for thought!

Is Your Facebook Page Screwed?

The whole point of creating a Facebook Page for your
business is to build a fan base of people interested in
your product or service, right?

Facebook Pages are a great tool for interacting with
your fans on a regular basis and for them to discover
whether or not your product or service is right for them.

But to build a HUGE fan base you need people clicking
the all mighty "LIKE" button. Yep, the tiny little button
sitting at the top of your page. :-)

Gone are the days of "Become a fan." Today, it's all
about the "LIKES" and YOU WANT THEM (a lot of them!)

Because without them... you have ZERO reach. If you
have zero reach, you make ZERO dollars.

And this is where most Page Admins fall flat on their
face.

Let me explain...

Have you ever visited a Facebook Page for a business,
only to land on their "Wall" where you see the comments
and status updates?

If so, did it make you want to "LIKE" the page?

Probably not.

Allowing your visitors to land on your "Wall" is the #1 mistake
Page Admins are making all across Facebook.

But it doesn't have to be this way...

Because as a Page Admin, you have the ability to create
a custom landing page AND set this page as your "Default
Landing Tab" for your Page.

You'll first need to install an iFrame application into your
page (which is beyond the scope of this post unfortunately.)
This will allow you to create a custom tab on your Page.

Once you have your custom tab, you will want to create
some type of "offer" along with a "call to action" to entice
people to "LIKE" your page.

An example offer would be something like this:

"Click Like Above To Get Access To _______"

It's proven that you will get more "Likes" just by making
this one small change to your Facebook Page.

Good luck!

- James Grandstaff

James Grandstaff is an Internet Entrepreneur and all
around good guy. To find out how he got 52.94% more
"Likes" to his Facebook page, check out his amazing

Try Again, Fail Again, Fail Better!

10744071065?profile=original

‘Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.’ – Samuel Beckett

‘If at first you don’t succeed try try again!’ As a child we have this concept so deep in our veins that trying again isn’t a question but an obsession. Think about the time you first learned to ride a bike, how many times did you fall off? How many times did you try again? Uncountable! Or how about when you were first introduced to basketball, how many times did you throw the ball at the hoop before it went in? Uncountable! What about tying your shoes laces, memorising your home telephone number, getting cookies of the top shelf. How many times? Uncountable. What was it about us as children that made us such naturally determined beings. Simplicity is the answer. We didn’t clog our minds with numerous scenarios, possibilities, predictions and we didn’t dwell on the past. Just because it didn’t work yesterday had no relevance to today. The only thing in mind was the goal and so we tried again and again and again and again and again and then ‘Yeah, I did it, I did it! Look at me, mommy daddy, I did it!’

‘It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not live at all. In which case, you’ve failed by default.’ – J.K. Rowlings

As adults we complicate matter so much so that we build a strong enough fear of failure to dissuade us from even trying. Have you notices when someone succeeds we ask questions like, at what age? How long did it take you? Was it your first attempt? Sometimes such questions can even lead us to feel ashamed of our achievement because it was not achieved within a certain parameter.

‘Ultimately, we all have to decide for ourselves what constitutes failure, but the world is quite eager to give you a set of criteria if you let it,’ – J.K. Rowlings

If you’re of healthy body and sound mind, there’s no reason to stop trying. The only failure is never having tried. Stop reasoning yourself out of even taking the first step, stop weighing up the pros and the cons, stop building up a case for why not to bother. So what if no one has ever done that before? So what if it might not work? So what if you’ve already tried? So what if you don’t have the required credentials, try to get them then try again. Just Keep Trying. Just Keep Going. Just Keep Swimming.

‘Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.’ – Dale Carnegie

We’ve all heard the saying ‘life is short’, but the truth is that life is long, so ask yourself, what else am I planning on spending all that time doing if not trying to realise my dreams?

‘The worst thing one can do it not to try, to be aware of what one wants and not give into it, to spend years in silent hurting, wondering if something could have materialized – and never knowing’ – David Viscott

Remember that its not just the success of your goal that is important, you learn much more in the time spent trying to reach your goal. See your time of trying as a journey and don’t forget to stop and take pictures along the way because at the end of the road you will want to look back and smile at how far you’ve come.
