(article)Review of the book The One Minute Manager, provided by BLP participant Eric SpamerThe One Minute Managerby Kenneth Blanchard and Spencer JohnsonSummaryThe One Minute Manager reveals three secrets to productive and efficient managing as told through a young man's search for the perfect managing and leading skills. The One Minute Manager is focused on, not surprisingly, a one minute manager. The man is a venerable leader that is highly spoken of by his employees, his three secrets being the key to his success. The first secret is One Minute Goals. This involves a meeting of the manager and the employee where goals are agreed on, written down in a brief statement, and occasionally reviewed to ensure that productivity is occurring. This whole process takes a "minute", which truly means it is a quick meeting, however it is not limited to just sixty seconds. The purpose of one minute goal setting is to confirm that responsibilities of each working is understood, understanding that confusion leads to inefficiency and discouragement. The second secret to one minute managing is one minute praisings. This involves being open with people about their performance. When you catch someone doing something right, a goal of the one minute manager, you praise them immediately, telling them specifically what they did correctly. Pause to allow them to "feel" how good you feel regarding their importance to the organization, and finish by shaking hands. The third secret is the one minute reprimand. Being honest with those around you involves reprimanding when a wrong has occurred. The first step is to reprimand immediately and specifically. This is the same as the second secret, and it holds an important aspect of the first secret: it enables an understanding of responsibilities and how to complete them correctly. Following the reprimand, shake hands and remind the person that he or she is important and it was simply their performance that you did not like. The one minute reprimand consists of the reprimand and the reassurance, both being equally important. If you leave the latter out, you will not be liked by those around you and they will attribute mistakes to them being worth less, which is far from the truth.RecommendationThe One Minute Manager is a quick read that emphasizes key points throughout. The message is clear, and implementing the ideas is straight-forward and laid out in the book. This makes it simple to utilize the knowledge and techniques that the one minute manager style offers. Due to these factors, I find The One Minute Manager an effective tool for developing leadership.

Following your promtings can bring joy to someone."I started using Send Out Cards in October of 2008. As a business plan writer, I have incorporatedit into every new business I have helped launch. From restaurants to gift basket business, to mortgage companies; every single user I have trained who put our wsystem into action saw incredible growth in their business. I have not missed a birthday or anniversary of anyone important to me. It has improved my relationships with people who thought I was too busy to care. SendOut Cards has improved my life in ways I never thought of". "After joining SendOut Cards, I was determined to make it a habit to send out at least one card everyday. After the first couple of weeks, I noticed a change that was taking place within myself. I was actually looking for good things in others so I could send them a card. This growing positive persective started to spread to other area's in my life. I am becoming more aware of the needs of others and less caught up in my own problems. I am making life happen and contributing to others. It feels fantastic! "I will be back tomorrow , to let you know how you can send two free cards to someone special in your life.........Oh yes, I received a letter from St Judes Hospital today, and the letter was really nice. They were thanking me for sending greeting cards to all the sick children there.....It really touch my heart. And made me feel proud to make someone's day! Giving always makes a difference!See you soon!

Today I want to discuss a few basic must haves as far as accessories. Okay ladies I know most of us have tons of accessories that we have collected over the years, but today lets just talk about the ones that I think are must haves.Hoop earrings have been around for decades and they never go out of style. There are all sort of styles. There are diamond, gold, silver, bamboo, beaded, and the new trend yarn. The list goes on and on. Now there is a science to wearing hoop earrings. I have actually purchased some and brought them home thinking they would look great and they did not because the shape of my head lol. I personally cannot wear the really large hoop earrings. I can wear medium sized to the smallest. So before purchasing hold the earrings up to your ears to see if they are the right fit. The prices of these earrings can range from $1.99 to $1,000. I found wearing your hair up or big curly hair can also make a difference on how you rock these earrinss. A crisp white t-shirt, a pair of your fav jeans, hair up in a messy bun or big curly hair can totally complete the whole style. You can purchase from any retail store.Next are a set of bangles. I can remember wearing bangles as a young child (flashback- I know yall remember the little medal ones that came in different colors) lol yeah the ones I used to get came in a little plastic purse or pouch.Bangles are just the right touch when wearing a bohemian style look. And also you can get these at any retail store locally or online.Until recently you would'nt think of a scarf as a "fashion accessory". They were mainly used to keep your neck warm in the winter lol. But they have found their way as one of the top fashion accessories that you can have. The scarf can be seen worn in the summer, spring, fall, basically all year. You can wear with t-shirts, dress, jackets, without a jacket. I mostly wear my scarf with a t-shirt and jeans just a way to make a simple outfit a little jazzy. The oversized boho purse. I personally think every woman should have one large purse. They are just classy and chic. And you can fit everything you need in it. Now maybe a woman that is petite in stature should not get this particular purse in the pic above, but just like with the hoop earrings make sure you measure the purse next to you before you purchase.Lastly the Ballet Flat Shoe. I think this is a must have because this is a well rounded accessory. I mean you can wear this particular style of shoe with jeans, adress, slacks, shorts, dress it up, dress it down you name it. Without a doubt a must have.So this post has come to an end, I mainly chose these accessories because of the fact that they can be worn all year, they go with basically anything, and they are not fads. Meaning they have been around for years..... let me know what your must haves are by simply commenting....God bless ya.

Somehow I've developed a bad habit of getting in the way of my own success. Several times in my life so far I've started on a calculable path and began to receive good success only to subsequently watch it all dwindle away. As I look back, I can clearly see a few mistakes that I've made consistently that have either created or added to my past failures.1. I've had a horrible habit of being too giving. Many Bible lessons supported by Christians and christian churches at large encourage abandoned giving. ***Now I understand why so few people on my path are abandoned givers; it's because they are not interested in living an impoverished life.2. Another of my bad habits was taking everything too literally. For example, I was taught to give every person the benefit of the doubt until they prove who they truly are, coupled with the lesson that we do best in life by looking only for the good in others. By taking these teachings too literally, I have been swindled, used and abused, had my heart crushed. . . . All because I didn't realize that the adage 'if it looks like a duck, waddles like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it's a duck' was a metaphor. People were constantly being themselves but I was purposely almost defiantly seeing only the good in them. ***Treat a person like his actions (more than his words) dictate.3. Thinking of people more highly than I aught to - akin to lesson number 2. The "fake it till you make it" philosophy has created a boat load of people who over promise and under deliver. Those are the worst kinds of people to do business with. Especially if your product delivery schedule is tied to their word. ***Hate to say it, but in business I've learned that, on average, people who talk a lot lie a lot.4. Procrastination is an enemy of all things good. Funny thing about time, It seems to run faster when we are relaxing and taking breaks than it does while we are working. ***Sleep and relaxation are necessities but not more so than eating and having a roof over your head.5. I have not mastered the art of making the necessary aspects of running a business fun. I'd much rather focus on the fun things - the reasons I started each enterprise in the first place. ***I've learned that three of the biggest/ essential to dos of business success/ survival are: Manage your people, Manage your money, & Manage your time respectively - period. Thanks for taking the time to read about lessons I've learned from life. I hope something you read will encourage you, strengthen you, or give you hope.

SearsJason ThompsonFrank Crump andUma ChallaWe dedicate the whole of this weeks' program to International Mens Day, which is finally and deservedly starting to get more recognition and traction around the world. Warwick Marsh, Dads4Kids Fatherhood Foundation in Australia, who is the Global Coordinator for IMD, set the scene last week on Dads on the Air when he spoke about some of the events taking place in Australia and around the world to celebrate this important International event. Our guests this week are from 3 different continents, representing millions of good and decent men around the globe, who currently witness themselves being publicly and relentlessly maligned on a daily basis. While there are exceptions to every rule, these should never be used to misrepresent the whole group in the way we now see men being portrayed. We commence our International lineup of guests with Australia's Dr Elizabeth Celi quality living who is the keynote speaker at the IMD function to be held at Australian Parliament House in the Nations' Capital, Canberra, on the 19th November. Dr.Celi is a strong supporter of the rights of men to be treated as an equal in a modern society, instead of having to face the daily injustices that confront them in many sectors of our community.Next we speak with Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh from Trinidad in the West Indies, who is the founder of IMD and described the event in the following manner, “International Men?s Day is about addressing the challenges and problems that men face; improving gender relations between men and women; promoting gender equality; highlighting positive male role models – not just movie stars and athletes – but “everyday working class men who are living decent, honest lives”; and creating a safer and better world”.We then speak with Diane A. Sears, IMD Coordinator in the USA, Managing Editor of IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R), Member of the University Council for Akamai University's Fatherhood and Men's Studies Program, and Director of IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD(R)'s International Fatherhood and Men's Issues Internship Program who puts it this way, “We must work together as a team. International Mens Day provides us with a great opportunity. Strong fathers create and sustain efficiently functioning family units which positively shape the minds and souls of our children – our future – our bridge to the future. After all, isn?t it really about our children?”The person responsible for Global Promotions, who is also the Historian and Coordinator for IMD is Australia's Jason Thompson and our next guest, who would like to take this opportunity to ask individuals and organizations who are planning an event to contact him with the details at: soulgany@bigpond.comThe following guest is Frank Crump from the USA and UPI Education, who with IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD® have entered into a partnership in observance of International Men’s Day 2009 on Thursday, 19 November 2009. UPI Education is asking students, faculty, and administrators to observe International Men’s Day 2009 through one moment of silence beginning at 11:19 A.M. (EST) and ending at 11:20 A.M. (EST) to commemorate and contemplate the sacrifices and contributions that Men have made throughout the world. UPI Education is also soliciting essays, articles, and poems from students and adults which identify the positive male role models that have influenced their lives. These essays, articles, and poems will be published on IN SEARCH OF FATHERHOOD®’s blog.We conclude our program interviewing one of the hardest working and passionate promoters of equality and justice for all, Uma Challa from India. Uma Challa is the IMD Coordinator for India. She made the point that, “International women?s Day is celebrated the world over every year but we also need to have a celebration every year to recognize and honor men: our fathers, brothers, partners, sons, male friends and colleagues; for the numerous services they render and the innumerable sacrifices they make to ensure the health and well-being of the family and the society.”International Men's Day began on November 19th 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago and was supported by the United Nations. The event received wide support from men's groups in USA, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. Speaking on behalf of UNESCO, Ms. Ingeborg Breines, Director of Women and Culture of Peace said, “This is an excellent idea and would give some gender balance.” She added that her organisation was looking forward to cooperating with organisers of IMD.Objectives of International Men's Day include a focus on men's and boy's health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality, and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion for men to highlight discrimination against them and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to community, family, marriage, and child care. The November IMD is a significant date as it interfaces the popular 'Movember' charity event and also with Universal Children's Day on Nov 20 with which IMD forms a 48 hour celebration of men and children respectively, and of the special relationships they share. The ability to sacrifice your needs on behalf of others is fundamental to manhood as is honour.Manhood rites of passage the world over recognise the importance of sacrifice in the development of Manhood. Men make sacrifices everyday in their place of work, in their role as husbands and fathers, for their families, for their friends, for their communities and for their nation. International Men’s Day is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all.During the past ten years methods of commemorating International Men's Day have included public seminars, classroom activities at schools, radio and television programs, Church observances, and peaceful displays and marches. The manner of observing this annual day is optional; any organizations are welcome to host their own events and any appropriate forums can be used. Early pioneers of IMD reminded that the day is not intended to compete against International Woman's Day, but is for the purpose of highlighting men's experiences. Each year a different theme is highlighted, such as peace in 2002, men’s health in 2003, sacrifice in 2008, and positive male role models in 2009. In consultation with organizers from other nations the following broad objectives of IMD are observed: Celebrate manhood and the wonderful positive and valuable contributions our men, young men, and boys make to our communities and to our societies Promote and Support gender equality, encouraging men to address responsibly and positively the challenges facing them in society Demonstrate strength of character and courage in meeting the challenges that men face in society and in contributing to building stronger and better communities, where people can be safe and grow to reach their full potential. Highlighting positive male role models, not just movie stars and sports men but everyday, working class men who are living decent, honest lives.International Men's Day is celebrated in Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Australia, India, United States, New Zealand, Moldova, Haiti, Singapore, Malta, South Africa, Ghana, Hungary, Canada, China, and the United Kingdom. Join us on November 19 in celebrating the contribution men make to those around them, to their family and friends, their work place and the community, the nations and the world.Dads4Kids Fatherhood Foundation is honoured to host the Men's Day website and we invite you to join the global celebrations. Today, I had a prompting....to send a card to St Judes Hospital For Cancer and Lukemia children. I send 10 cards at a time. Five for girl's and five for boy's! It is a really great feeling to send someone a "unexpected card". Normally you go home from work , check your mailbox and what do you get ?????Two things, "bills" and "junk mail" . I have sent unexpected cards to many people, and the reply's areso positive. I get reply's like " Thanks Donna you made my day, Or thanks for the browines you sent me along with the great card. Send Out Cards is a wonderful way to reach out at touch someone's lives! When was the last time you sent a card to someone you care about? Do you think that would make a difference? Or How about a simple thank you or expression of appreciation? Do you think that would make a difference? Question is why do we even want to give greeting cards? To express , our thoughts for the person for whom you purchased the card for right? But, what happens is sometimes we go buy the card, and it never gets delivered .......I know it has happened to me a few times. I still have aChristmas card here, that I bought two years ago.....lol But , now that I use Send Out Cards, it is more of a inconvenice to go to the store , buy a card for two to four dollars, buy the stamp, go mail it....Oh yes, I forgot "the gas you use to go mail the card at the post office! Ok ,yes the typical approach. With SOC you can create a custom card , words you type in yourself, upload a picture on the card if you wish, and click send. From that point your greeting card is mailed to the person you just created the card for.......That's called " convenience"! Even at 10:00 pm at night!Till tomorrow.........

We all have thesepromptings....You can relate to this, at least most of you.Your busy all day, you get up, get the kids ready, yourself, husband and everyone out the door for the day, Then come home....oops forgot, have to run to the grocery store because you forgot something for dinner....now your caught in traffic, getting more "irritated"....seems like everything is going so fast, and you just woke up about 13 hours ago! So, you finally get home , all the kids are home, husband is looking at you with a smile on his face , and the smile is saying ....what's for dinner honey? And on top of all that you forgot that in 7 days is your mother's birthday, Your"prompting hits you. Then you think I was at the store, and why did I not get that birthday card....now I have to go back again....then days go by and your schedule has not changed any...And you keep forgetting that special birthday card....now the day is closer and you still have not rememberd that card! Ok, well now picture this.....wouldn't it be really nice to have your greeting card store at home on your computor..? Let me know what you think about this blog and the last question!.....see you tomorrow.

Hey everyone, before I begin I just want to say Happy Friday!! I stepped outside this morning and I felt the cool, crisp air and immediatly I thought. It's time to rock my boots. ITS BOOT SEASON YEAH!!! Now being a plus size woman its a challenge finding stylish boots. Either you have big feet(slowly raising my hand lol), thick calfs, or you may not be able to find a comfortable heel. *SIGH* Well I'm going to make it my mission to find stylish boots for plus size women facing this challenge.I went on the search for what style of boot I'm looking for. Me personally I am looking for something unique and different so I found this website called www.barefoottess.com. They specialize in boots from sizes 11-15! There moto is "Because style does not stop at size 10" I love that..... and here is what I found. This particular boot is called the Mantiboah 'Buffalo Dancer Boot'. I liked this boot because of its uniqueness and style, they look comfortable and they would definatly look good paired with leggings and a long sweater.(very native american)ite is $199.00. I really like these. Now this boot I love. It's called the Delman 'Gaiety' Boot. I love this one because its very chic, structured, and sexy.(not to mention unique) This would look good paired with tights and a sweater dress (very simple)the cost of this boot is $299.00 its on sale from its original price which was $595.00.Last but not least, the Muk Luks 'sweater knit' Boot. I just thought these boots were cute, plain and simple. They kind of remind me of Uggs. Rock these with a pair of jeans and sweater or tunic top will bring the outfit together nicely. These are sold for $49.00.Okay I know the prices are high but my next challenge is to find the alternative to these boots. And if you can deal with the price remember they are on www.barefoottess.com. Let me know what your boot pics for the season or if you like the ones I picked all you have to do is leave a comment. To be continued......Hey if you liked this blog go to my blog spot at www.upscale07.blogspot.com for fasion tips, conversation, and the latest trends in fashion.

Traditional methods of personal video distribution, such as making a DVD to show to friends at home, are unsuited to the low resolution and high volume of camera phone clips. In contrast, current broadband Internet connections are well suited to serving the quality of video shot on mobile phones. Most people do not own web servers, and this has created demand for user-generated video content hosting, which the likes of YouTube are catering to.Mobile video hostingA more recent application of the video hosting services is in the mobile web 2.0 arena, where video and other mobile content can be delivered to, and easily accessed by mobile devices. While video-hosting services such as YouTube have developed means by which video can be watched on mobile devices, mobile-oriented web-based frontends for video hosting services that possess equal access and capability to desktop oriented web services have yet to be developed.A mobile live streaming software called Qik allows the users to upload videos from their cell phones to the internet. The videos will then be stored online and can be shared to various social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
