6 Tips to Assess Problems, Find SolutionsWhen you fix all the small problems in your business, profits shoot through the roof.6 Tips to Assess Problems, Find SolutionsThere’s an old joke that a consultant is someone who listens to the employees, tells management what they are saying and takes a fee for it. This is truer than most consultants would like to admit. If you want to solve a problem without paying a big consulting fee, learn to do three things:Listen to yourselfListen to your teamDo what makes senseYes, it’s really that simple--90 percent of advanced tools like process reengineering, project management and quality management are just common sense. My mom once asked me what I did for a living. When I explained it to her, she said, “but that’s just common sense.” I replied, “It’s because you call it common sense that I’m so good at it.” Good old mom!The Common Sense Approach1. Fix what you can, instead of blaming others. Sure the economy sucks, suppliers mess up, and customers are a royal pain. That is as true for your competitors as it is for you. What makes winners different is what we do about the problems we can solve, and how we inspire our team to take a can-do attitude and do good work.2. Fix the right problem. Think like a doctor. You wouldn’t be happy if your doctor gave you stomach medicine for a heart condition. In business, though, we often fix the wrong problem. For example, when sales are low, we push the salespeople. Most likely, they’re already doing a good job, and the problem is in marketing. Remember: The cause of a problem is almost never where the symptom shows up. Find the cause and fix it; you can’t fix a symptom.3. If the problem comes back, find out why, and fix it. Say you have some defective parts in your products. Getting rid of them isn’t enough. How do you know more defects won’t arrive with the next order? Instead:Check with your supplier: How can they confirm that there will be no future defects?Change your contract: Add a penalty for defective parts.Change the way you choose suppliers: Go for quality, and prevent the problem. Now that you know how to fix problems, you just need to find the problems that need fixing.4. Find problems by complaining. I recommend complaining. There’s a great technique for finding your problems--and blowing off some stress--from Barbara Sher’s book WishCraft. She calls it the power of negative thinking. Stand in front of a friend and deliver a standup comedy routine titled What’s Wrong With My Business? Complain about everything. Be specific. Rant, rave and get it out of your system. Have your friend write down every complaint. There’s your list of problems. Now start solving them.Which problem do you solve first? It doesn’t matter. If you have time and energy, fix the one that will be the biggest boost to your bottom line. If you’re running around like a chicken with your head cut off, then fix the one that is bugging you the most.5. Listen to your team. Go to your team, and tell them you want to make a fresh start. Tell them you want them to enjoy their jobs more and get more done. Ask each person on the team for three problems that you can fix to make their lives easier. If you haven’t done this before, it may take a while before they take you seriously, but you’ll get there. And when you do, you’ll find that after you help them, they’ll be ready to help you.6. Your business works best once you’ve fixed the pipes. Be the plumber for your business. When you fix all big leaks, things start to flow. When you fix all the small problems, profits shoot through the roof. What flows in a business? Products, services, and solutions flow to your customers and money flows to you.I hope you're not in business just to make money. The purpose of a business should be to do what we love, love what we do, make our customers happier and better off, and the world a better place. But money is the measure of a business. Track money--gross revenue, expenses and net revenue--to find what is working, and what is not. Then fix your business.

Making It RealWhat will you make real in your world today? There are so many possibilities. Will you focus so heavily on your fears that you create and empower the very things you fear? Or will you fill yourself with positive visions that your awareness and actions can then bring to life? The expectations you have carry a great amount of power. So choose today to expect the best you can imagine in every situation.Your thoughts attract people, objects and circumstances that closely match those thoughts. Be sure to make them peaceful, positive and empowering thoughts, and they'll be faithfully reflected in your world. The way you see things determines what you see, and what you see determines the substance that your life creates. Make it a meaningful, fulfilling substance. The reality of this day will come largely from the way you think, feel, learn, respond, observe and act. Choose to make it the best one yet.R. MarstonAnd Please Remember what we have been taught:"I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me"Philippians 4:13"Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men." Colossians 3:23"Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you."Deuteronomy 31:6"He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary."Isaiah 40:29-31"Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."John 14:13-14"Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable."For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? "And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?"And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. "But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing? "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."Matthew 6:25-34

28 Ways to Build Permission-Based Email Lists

Loren McDonaldDeveloping a cost-effective email list poses a challenge for all email marketers. Because email addresses change at a rate of 30 percent or more on most lists, marketers must adopt an aggressive approach to expand their list and yield a significant return on investment. As you browse the list below please keep these helpful tips in mind:* Consider All Touch Points: Use every point of contact with customers and prospects.* Obtain Permission: Always obtain permission with the confirmed (double) opt-in method for online contacts. For offline contacts, update your database with when, where and how the contact was initiated. Confirm their permission in the first email.* Required Information: Obtain email address, name, format preference and logical interests/preferences.* Focus Equal Attention on Existing Lists: Implement strategies and incentives to transform inactive subscribers into active ones.* Provide Valuable Benefits: Convince potential subscribers of the valuable benefits they’ll receive.* Convey Trust: Clearly state your privacy/email policies.1. Feature a Sign-Up Form on Each Page of Your Site – Be sure to remember this basic concept. Sign-up opportunities should be ubiquitous throughout your site.2. Promote Benefits on the Sign-Up Page – Enhance subscription value with sample emails, testimonials and strong call to action copy.3. Use Direct Mail and Catalogs – Encourage email subscriptions on all print ads.9. Direct Employees to Include Messages and Links in Email Signature Lines – Add “Subscribe to the Company X Email Newsletter” to employee email signatures.10. Direct Call Center and Sales Employees to Obtain Permission and Capture Email Addresses Over the Phone – Instruct call center and sales staff to ask customers and prospects if they’d like to receive newsletters or promotional email.11. Send Post Cards to Customers Encouraging Them to Subscribe to Email – If you have postal contact information for customers but not email addresses, send a post card with opt-in sign-up offer and URL.12. Hand Out Sign-Up Forms at Public Speaking Engagements and Seminars – Promote your newsletter in presentations and handouts.13. Implement Rented List Campaigns and Subscriptions – Promote your company in email campaigns and landing pages when you rent email lists.14. Promote Sign-Ups in Confirmation/Transaction Emails – Add messages and links to opt-in pages of all confirmation and transaction emails.15. Include Opt-in Line on Credit Card Receipts – Not an obvious method, but may be quite effective.16. Add Opt-in Message to Warranty and Product Registration Cards.17. Add Sign-Up Message to Invoices.18. Display Opt-in Forms at the Cash Register – An approach used by restaurants and retailers to advertise weekday discounts, catering services etc.19. Promote Your Email/Newsletter in Articles and Article Attribution – Include a reference and link to your newsletter after the byline on articles in trade and consumer publications.20. Include Opt-in Message and Check Boxes on Shopping Cart Pages – Remember to ask for email format and product/information preferences.21. Pave the Road to Your First Home!

Pave the Road to your first home!Buying a home is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. It will take time, money and lots of energy. Before you get started, there are some things you will need to learn and do before making that huge purchase. One of the keys to paving the road to your first home is great planning. The first question you answer should be why do you want to buy? You also need to decide if you are ready. Most couples dream of owning their own home and being able to raise a family in it for years to come. The first thing you and your spouse should do is sit down and decide if you both are ready for this huge commitment. Sometimes it’s not always about the money, it’s about the energy it will take and the process you will have to go through. If you and your spouse intend to have children then buying a home is a great investment.Another key to paving the road to your first home is finances, meaning do you have the money?Homes and financing are closely intertwined. You will be happy to know that over the years new and innovative loan programs have evolved which require a 5 percent down payment or less. In fact, a number of programs now allow purchasers to buy real estate with nothing down. In addition to a down payment, purchasers also need cash for closing costs (the final costs associated with closing the loan). Several newly emerging loan programs not only allow the purchase of a home with no money down, but also underwrite closing costs. Not everyone, however, elects to purchase with little or no money down. Less money down means higher monthly mortgage payments, so most home buyers choose to buy with some cash up front. Those great loans with little or nothing down are not available to everyone: You need to have decent credit, which generally means a 580 or above.Another component is making sure that your financial house is in order! In the excitement of searching for homes and thinking about how you are going to decorate, there is something important that every couple needs to be sure of and that’s taking care of bills and debt before attempting to purchase a home. Start now by paying all of your bills on time. For at least one year prior to purchasing a home, you should assure that every credit card bill, rent check, car payment and other debt is paid in full and on time. If you have a steady job and a reasonable credit history, there is a good chance that you can find a home lender who will lend you most of the purchase price of your new house. Home loans are also called "mortgages," I have discovered that this word comes from a Latin phrase meaning "pledge unto death." Lenders expect to get paid on time and it’s important to make sure that you are financially capable of assuming such a large amount of debt.Don’t let the hard work and pressure of buying a home get to you. Buying a home will be fun and exciting, as well as time consuming. These are just a few of the things you will need to think about to pave your way to your first home!To get professional advice and more information on purchasing a home call Vision Investment Corporation at 877-799-0820! See The WonderThere is more value in life than anyone can imagine. So never stop imagining.Everything you imagine plants a seed. The more beautiful and compelling it is, the more of life's miraculous energy you give to it.And that makes what was once just imagined, real. What you now see all around you, was first imagined. When you meet with difficulties, it can be easy to imagine the worst. But that only extends and magnifies your troubles.Instead, imagine the best. Imagine the most brilliant, stunningly beautiful version of life, and the very act of imagining begins to pull you solidly toward it.What is possible is limited only by what you sincerely imagine to be possible. See the wonder, see the beauty, and bring it all more fully to life.R. MarstonAnd Please Remember what we have been taught:"I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me"Philippians 4:13God Bless,"Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 1:13"Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the LORD." Hit the HighwayCreate a mobile office and watch the bumps on the road to a working vacation disappear. With more and more people working from home, Jeff Zbar spotted a potential new trend: the portable office. A Florida writer who loves travel, Zbar says every entrepreneur should find time to set off on the open road with family in tow.But must business skid to a halt the second the door of the RV slams shut? Not when most of what can be done in a home office can easily adapt to the highway."I'm taking my office with me in an 18-inch-by-18-inch cube," Zbar, 43, says. "It's not about replicating your regular office--you can't sell it as a vacation and then work the entire time."Called a "mobile workmate," Zbar's portable office is a wheeled case with telescoping handle and a place for everything: laptop, cords, GPS--all the necessary tools that can be stashed out of sight when it's more important to be fishing with the kids or playing in the sand on the Jersey Shore. To prove it can be done, and to turn a little profit, Zbar embarked July 5 with his family of five on a four-week road trip he calls "Home Office Highway."Zbar's wife, Robbie, a pediatric nurse practitioner, and children, Nicole, 16, Zachary, 14, and Zoe, 10, joined him on the almost 3,000-mile trip up and down the East Coast in a rented RV.He's demonstrating his mobile office--and tricks he's learned after 19 years working from home--at various stops along the way. He's also giving out his tip-filled booklet, with advice to those new to the concept of a working vacation, or "workation," as Zbar calls it.Zbar projects he'll at least break even because he'll continue to work and because Office Depot, Verizon Wireless and RV Sales of Broward, a Florida-based business, are sponsors. Zbar says while on vacation he'll be working about 30 to 50 percent of what he would in a normal week.Jerry Ross, executive director of Disney Entrepreneur Center (DEC), in Orlando, Florida, set up a seminar there for Jeff on July 24. DEC provides business counseling, networking opportunities and seminars for small-business owners."As a small-business owner, doing business on the road or on vacation is a necessity, and any opportunity to improve the process can produce huge benefits," Ross says.Ross often works from the road and likes the appeal of an extended RV trip."I would love to have a little more room for my laptop, BlackBerry and my chargers. I had to hunt for electrical outlets all over the airport this weekend. My phone kept running out of battery, and the lady next to me in the airport kept reading my blog writings from my laptop screen," Ross says."Having a RV office would assist me in being able to stay in contact by having the technology always handy--not in the overhead bin--and always ready to go."Traveling in StylePablo Camus, vice president of marketing at RV Sales of Broward, says the business began promoting portable offices in December and has sold eight RV offices. His clients include a chiropractor, a beauty salon owner and a president of an entrepreneurial association."We can really pimp it up and remodel the interior," Camus says. Some use the RV exterior to promote business or rent it as a billboard."I wish I would have thought of this before when I had my mortgage company. I was paying rent of $8,600 for my office per month," Camus says. "For that amount I could have had three or four top-notch motor homes and had my brokers driving around town."Mike Gast, vice president of communications at Kampgrounds of America, Inc. (KOA), says five years ago well under 20 percent of customers traveled with a laptop. Now, more than 50 percent do. Most of KOA's campgrounds have free Wi-Fi.Gast says there's a "subculture of people in transportable jobs" such as nursing, construction and seasonal service or hospitality workers who move a lot. "And because of the cost of housing, they stay in the campground," he says.Zbar says it's all about personal work style when it comes to adapting to a mobile office."This concept is going to be alien. Don't think, 'Hop in the car Monday, and launch my business Monday.' No, you're not--not if you're going to be successful. You want to start by getting comfortable." he says. The best way to do that is get used to working from home before attempting a working trip. Then branch out to coffee shops, libraries and parks. For Zbar, who has worked from home since 1989, there's less of a learning curve. For others, it's seeing if your work style is adaptable to a non-office atmosphere.Family Members as Co-PilotsZbar acknowledges for some families working on a vacation is something akin to roadtrip sacrilege--groans can be audible and tension palpable when an entrepreneur packs a briefcase. That's why he told his family--as well as his clients--"it's not a working weekend."And he's sure to rely on family for support so working from the road doesn't start to feel like a drag. His family members are veteran GPS-users and even help determine must-see sights along the route. His family doesn't seem to mind the mobile office concept."I think it's great," Robbie Zbar says. "It allows us as a family to take vacations without the interruption of incoming income. As long as we are doing more vacationing than him working, we are all good."Robbie's family took a six-week road trip each summer, operating hockey rinks in Canada remotely."If they could make it happen back then, anyone can now," Jeff says. "The world is open for exploration. The true lesson learned here is that people will discover what they're capable of if they just give it a shot."
