How I caught the Business Bug . . .

Greetings everyone!In 1995, I was an executive assistant for the marketing department of the Mississippi Credit Union System. The company hosted an annual convention for board members and employees of various credit unions in Mississippi. That year the premiere guest speaker was Willie Jolley, phenomenal speaker and member of Les Brown's dream team. The marketing department was responsible for arranging, transporting and adhering to the schedule of the speakers. The guest speakers each presented or held seminars through out the convention and a strict schedule had to be maintained.The speaker I was responsible to primary assist was Willie Jolley. The convention was held in Biloxi, MS at the most beautiful time of year for the Mississippi gulf coast. I had no idea what I was in for. I assumed it would be the same as other speakers I had assisted where they were demanding and distant. That was not true of Mr. Jolley. He personally got to know everyone who assisted him and said thank you to everyone who kept his schedule tight and together.I remember when I first met him he asked, "What is your position in the company?" I told him and his reply, "Lisa, I can show you how to be the CEO of this company or have your own buisness. It's up to you."He talked every minute to any assistant around about exploring your possibilities. The last day of the convention we had people asking us about buying more of Mr. Jolley's books and tapes. We were responsible for his display set-up and also manging the sales of his merchandise as he signed his books for believers and fans. I told them we had sold out of his book, however we could take their orders and Mr. Jolley's home office would mail them their signed copy. There were six of us who assisted Mr. Jolley altogether. Just as Mr. Jolley was heading for the airport, he thanked us and pulled out every book he had ever written and tape he had produced and each was personally signed by Willie Jolley. We were all stunned. The books were hard back and exactly what the cash paying convention members were asking for.Today, four out of six assistants have their own businesses. The most powerful sentence I heard from him through the entire convention was, "All things are possible, all things are possible when you believe."It is always a blessing to Share, Dream a World!

Ok, I'm going to cut right to the chase here.Your tradeshow marketing plan consists of three parts:Pre ShowAt the showAfter the ShowYour mission, should you choose to accept it, is to accomplish the following:Deliver the message to the target audienceMake your show presence memorable, measurable and under budgetBuild your brand.Let's begin with pre-show contact. Did you know that 75% of booth visits are planned in advance yet 75% of exhibitors do not participate in pre-show contact? That's money left on the table, folks! Consider the following statistics: attendees spend 6-8 hours on the floor. They average 16-25 exhibitor visits. This is where you start to become memorable.You can raise awareness of your upcoming show in a variety of ways. Some popular techniques include direct mail, room drops, website ads, email invitations, fax invitations, public relations, advertising, pre-show staff communications, and telemarketing. The following four tips will help you generate interest in your upcoming show:Mail postcard to pre-registered attendeesAdd your booth information to all email signaturesHave customer contact people talk it upPhone your top 10 clients with a special invitation and invite them to see a demonstration at your boothIf you want your staff to be busy engaging prospects and clients instead of twiddling their thumbs, offer your visitors an incentive to stop by your booth. Traffic will increase when a gift is promised at the booth. Traffic will increase when a companion gift is given at the booth. Include your company contact information on the gifts. 80% of exhibitors do not and this is a huge mistake!Your goals with the pre-show contact are similar to those of your complete marketing plan. The best things in life are unexpected - because there were no expectationsby Sophia BaileyOkay so the weekend of romance has come and gone, whether it was the best ever or one of the worst depends on what you expected to happen.Looking back through the years I think the simplest gestures made me happiest, especially when unexpected . If I’ve been disappointed, something was said or done in a way that I didn’t expect.How many times have you heard the words or had the thought?‘I thought he would have made more of an effort’‘I thought she would have appreciated it’‘I thought they would have understood what I meant’When we think or expect someone to say or do something in one way, we limit their ability to surprise us with another possibility and we can take their actions as hurtful.Most people act in a way that they think is of benefit to both of you. They have the best intentions, think they are right and expect everyone to see things their way. We all do it so this is nothing new but we rarely understand what the other person must have been thinking to have them feel what they did to us was ok.When something disappoints you ask yourself, what did I expect to happen?Do I have a justified reason to expect that outcome from that person? Is that who they are? Charity Fashion Show 2009 - Request for Help & Support

I've been working on the logistics of this and am closer to getting things set in stone but I do need help from you or someone you may know. Date will be June 20th, June 27th is a backup date. I have lost 7 members of my family to cancer-- prostate, lung, cervical, stomach & colon. There are 2 breast cancer surviors in the family as well. Last year I wrote a ton of eBooks for web entrepreneurs and I learned two things along the way. On a positive note, it is great to know that my eBooks have helped so many of you understand the basics of web entrepreneurship and internet marketing. On a surprising note, I realized that in answering some questions, I opened up the flood gates to so many more. A lot of you have asked me web / techie questions about blogging, building websites, marketing, networking, and the list goes on. Now some of these questions require more detail than I can give in an eBook and to be honest some of you just don't have the time to read through all my eBooks, so I have been working on a NEW Series of Web Basics Video tutorials.
