Three Kinds of Business People

A new blog I am following, created by Lorrie, separates her daily posts by subject. Why didn't I think of that? Oh, well.I came across here post for Sunday, called Spiritual Sunday. Now, don't get confused or start laughing at me. Yes, this is under the Business Section. Why?Because when she blogged about the subject of 3 Kinds of Christians, originally a blogpost topic from Proverbs 31, the title of this post popped into my head.Let's go through them one by one. The scripture references are just for the curious. I used the Amplified Bible version, but there are others you can use.1. The Fruitless Business Person (John 15: 1-2)The fruitless Business person is the one who has all their office supplies, the latest computer and upgraded software, but spend his/her entire day fiddling with these things. They spend more time picking out the right executive-looking chair, the right landing page theme, the perfect Twitter app, but don't actually work on creating prospects, gaining customers and performing a service or providing a product.According to the scripture, these people are cut off as dead branches. And that is just what the market does. The phone only rings with telemarketers. The emails are all spam and friends. You are dead and cut off; producing nothing. The great thing about this scripture (for those of you who clicked the link and read it), is that there is another part to this. The branches producing fruit get cut, too. But, not completely off. They get pruned. And, that is exactly what "fruitful" business people do. They get rid of dead weight (services, products, employees, anything that is not contributing to growth). In this way, they know they will be leaner, straighter and achieve their goals.2. The Lukewarm Business Person (Revelations 3:16)We all have friends like this. They have a fantastic idea. You hear about it over and over again. For about three months. Then they seem to dry up. When you ask them about the business, they are wishy-washy in their answers. They hem and haw for awhile...until they are off with another idea. They are neither hot or cold about something. They think they can sell it, but never give it enough time, or their entire guts. They are not sold out. They are not committed and it shows.I don't care how many DVDs they bought or how much product sits on their shelves. And, because they are this way, they get spat out of the market. No one buys from a lukewarm business.3. The Wordly Business Person (1 Corinthians 3:1-3a)If you read the scripture before reading this, you might say, how is she going to tie this to business?Simple. There are some business owners who have been in business for many years and still they are acting like start-ups and newbies. They attend every workshop, seminar, business meeting, networking event and association event, and still they (and their company) do not grow.Perhaps they are worldly, because they are not really concentrating in developing a niche. Perhaps it is because they are stuck doing business in a dead or dying way.Whatever the reason, they are still digesting the preliminaries. The How-To manuals. The e-books.They never get to the meat of their business. They never become a resource; an expert. They are still drinking the milk. And, in my opinion, missing the meat of their industry. And, of course, the bulk of their potential customers as well.Don't be one of these. Instead, do these three things:
  1. Let the market prune you.
  2. Grow your business with a sold-out spirit.
  3. Become an expert running a mature business.

Hi all. I recently received a question from one of the members of SweetBizTips.com wanting to know why they weren't receiving visitors to their flashy new company site. This is a problem most small business owners have when they decide to create a website to market their products/services. It's one thing to have a well designed, extremely advanced website but getting the people to actually visit is a task within it self. To answer this members question I decide to make a video giving one of my most used techniques to get web traffic to my site; which is utilizing the discussion forum. There's definitely a right and wrong way to use forums and I've done both, but in the video you'll learn the approach I take now to not only get web traffic but to get sales as well. Here's the video link http://sweetbiztips.flux.com/Video/Using-Forums-To-Build-Web-Traffic/0EAD6FFFF01B0ADA6001B00BCDE37 I hope this helps everyone generate a lot of web traffic and sales.Miss SweetGraphic Logo Designerwww.VizionBranding.com

Why is your black beautiful?

Hey, ladies,You know I am all about empowerment. Proctor & Gamble is now hosting a "My Black is Beautiful" campaign. The same titled show will run on BET on several dates. There is also a national tour, media dates and events.Come on sistas, go to the following address and tell them why your Black is beautiful. Or, you can simply forward this email on to another sister, telling them why your Black is beautiful, in 1,400 words or less. To get the ball rolling, I have included my own beauty story! Pass it on and share. (include me on your emails, too. I want to read your stories, too! :))Visit http://www.myblackisbeautiful.com.Blessings,:) NatashaSpeaking at meetings at work for long periods of time was becoming crippling for me and I knew I had to do something about it. I went to my safe haven, Barnes & Noble, and rushed the self-help section in search of a public speaking book to help me get over my fear.As I went through the exercises in the book on the weekends what I found was that I didn’t have a problem with public speaking. The problem was “the voice” I had crafted for at work situations was interfering with me speaking over a long period of time. You, see, as a youngster, without any prompting from anyone, I learned that the skill of inflecting my voice several levels higher seemed to make others (teachers, employers, interview subjects) more at ease with me. This inflected voice is far, far different from my natural husky intonation. Keeping up that higher range was affecting my natural breathing rhythm, causing my lungs to run out of gas.The voice I had crafted to prove to others that I too was intelligent, kind and deserving of the same respect was either going to ruin my speaking abilities or I was going have to use my natural voice in order to speak clearly. My unnatural voice had become a tool, a vehicle to tell society, “Please don’t judge me by my skin color. Please look past my race to determine whether or not I am qualified to be where I am.”I have now been using the voice God blessed me with for the last year. There will still be many other hurdles to jump. My only hope is that when I finish this race, I will complete it with who my parents raised me to be – Me. Being comfortable with myself from the inside out truly makes my Black beautiful.~ Natasha ClarkMassachusetts

Brad Sugars: Startup BasicsMore publicity. Less competition. Talent waiting to be scooped up. Here's why starting in a recessed economy may give your business a better shot. How about 10?Regardless of what people around you (including the media) may say, right now is the best time to get into business. Just go back and look at the economic slowdowns throughout history. Most recessions in the post-World War II era last an average of 10 months, followed by growth cycles that last an average of 50 months. What this means for the startup is there's no better time than right now to get going and start pursuing your business dreams--in anticipation of the next period of growth. So with a nod to David Letterman, here are my top 10 reasons you should start your business now--despite the current downturn:1. Everything is cheaper.Let's face it: There is great value right now in this and in world markets. This is the right time for fantastic deals in virtually every category, from land and equipment to commercial office space, personnel and labor. As asset prices have been knocked down, there is no better time to get into the real estate or financial markets, or even heavy equipment and construction. Some people have waited years to find value in these markets--and now that time has come.2. You can hire more and better-qualified people. In an era when even Microsoft is laying off, you can find great resources at affordable rates. Thinking about getting your high-tech startup off the ground? There are plenty of engineers waiting to be hired. Thinking about forming a professional services firm? There are many accountants and attorneys looking for their next opportunity.3. People are looking to change suppliers. From a cost perspective, everything is on the table for most companies. Even if your prices are higher, if you can come in with greater value, you have a good chance at winning new business. You also have the advantage of being the new kid on the block when it comes to pitching your products and services. Many companies are desperate to find new partnerships with new companies that have a different, better or more innovative way of delivering those products and services.4. Ownership equals tax incentives.Business ownership offers a variety of tax benefits that aren't available to employees. While taxes should never be the sole reason to go into business for yourself, it should be one reason to add to you "benefits of business ownership" list.5. Family and friends don't want to (or can't) invest more money into the stock or real estate markets. That means they may be willing to finance a portion of your new venture, or the expansion of an enterprise that has proven itself over time. The main benefit is that they know you and have a relationship with you--and if you have a solid business plan that delivers real numbers, your chances of raising the capital you need increase exponentially.6. Suppliers are giving better credit.Because the credit markets have virtually shut down, the B2B credit flows are keeping money circulating out of sheer necessity. That means a bullish outlook for companies looking for good terms on stock and/or inventories. The main advantage is that all parties have more incentive than ever for finding true win-win situations that allow for cash and stock flow. When everyone is looking to survive, great deals can be had.7..You can get good PR by showing you are going against the trend. The media loves aberrations, and if you are optimistic by expanding or getting into business now, you would be in that category. That means you can generate some great PR by demonstrating your "alternative" view of the market.8. You can buy everything you need at auction. In addition to everything being less expensive, you can find great deals at auctions, especially in terms of any large equipment and office furnishings. Auctions are also a great place to find hardly used or "gently" used restaurant and bar supplies at great prices. These days, you may even be able to get deals on fleets of vehicles and trucks for a delivery service or hauling or construction company.9. You can find great "low money" or "no money" down deals. This is simply being aware of good opportunities others have buggered up, and finding deals where you could get an entire business simply by taking over a lease (along with all the equipment). Many business owners want out at any cost, meaning you can negotiate great win-win deals that allow the current owners an escape while giving you an opportunity to turn around what could be, if run right, a very viable business. And finally . . .10. You've lost your job, and you have to do something.Sometimes, the best business decision is the one you are forced into, and the incentive (as well as need) for income is often enough to push those previously "on the fence" to strike out on their own. There's nothing wrong with being in this position; it simply means there is greater urgency to do something that will start to generate income as quickly as possible. There you have it: my top 10 reasons to start your business in a recession. After all, the odds are on your side that the expansion will be many times more robust than the present slowdown. There's no better time to start than the present, especially if people around you are more comfortable with their own list of reasons why they shouldn't start pursuing their own business dreams right now. It only means you'll be facing a lot less competition.-----------------Brad Sugars is Entrepreneur.com's Startup Basics columnist and the writer of 14 business books including The Business Coach, Instant Cashflow, Successful Franchising and Billionaire in Training. My Home Business, & Why I Chose It?

My search for a home business began about 8 years ago when I was pregnant with my little girl, kiki. I was always coming across advertisements that said "Work From Home", "Be Your Own Boss". I started thinking how great it would be to be able to stay home full time with my children and make money too.I began investing in some of the companies I came across and just to give you a heads up, never pay for information about a company. The only time you should be paying anything is when you have all the details and you're ready to get started. I had to learn that the hard way. I ended up getting scammed out of money because I thought I had to pay for information about a company. Well anyway, during my search I tried a few companies before I found the one for me. Most of the companies required selling of products, and keeping inventory. I found that those types of companies were not for me because I'm not into home parties and I'm not good at selling anything. When I found Ameriplan I was relieved that I didn't have to do any of that stuff. Ameriplan is a service based company that offers affordable dental and medical benefits for people who are uninsured or under insured.I don't have to worry about product inventory or trying to sell anything. There are so many people that need benefits but can't afford them so all I have to do is let them know that there is an alternative. It's a lot easier for me offering people something they need versus trying to sell them something they really may not want. I'm able to help those people who have been turned down by traditional insurance companies due to pre-exisiting conditions which gives me a good feeling knowing that I can help them. Ameriplan is not insurance, they are a discount benefits company that save people up to 80% off on their services. We don't have to pre-qualify anyone before offering them one of our plans. Anyone, regardless of age or medical status receives the same benefits as anyone else. We have no pre-existing exclusions, no waiting periods, no limits on services or visits, and no deductibles. We're able to cover an entire household, regardless of relation, for only $19.95 or $39.95 a month. If you think you would be interested in starting your own health benefits business with Ameriplan or would like to learn more about the company you can contact me at 919-665-1342 or go to www.providingachange.com

What you cannot control (Part 1)1. First you want to start by finding all the errors in your file. This means that you will have to have a CURRENT COPY of your file. Your file changes daily and you should NOT dispute off an old file. This is why having a monitoring service is so important.2. Write them down on a sheet of paper or type them up.3. Dispute each account with the Credit Bureaus and wait for them to respond.4. Keep records of all your disputes and any communication via correspondence.5. Write the company who is reporting your file to the credit bureau. This is the step that is very important. Often times, the credit bureau will not investigate your dispute and leave you to do all the work. This is a big problem in the system. The credit bureau will leave you hanging to deal with the creditor who is already reporting the information wrong. The reason you want to write the collection company is because “you” want to create a paper trail that you have made every attempt in correcting your file.6. After about four attempts working with the creditor bureau and collection company, it’s time to file a complaint. It is sad, but if you don’t file a complaint, there is no way for the federal government to know that these companies are not following the guide lines in reporting.7. You cannot control unpaid bills on your credit file UNLESS they are reported wrong which is what happens 90% of the time. These companies are getting away with this and YOU, the consumer is letting them. Unpaid bills will remain on your file for seven years, EVEN when you pay the bill. Again, there is no way to get a legal unpaid bill off your file UNLESS, it is reported incorrectly.8. Consumers must learn to identify the illegal reporting of each bad account. Your account can be reported wrong by date open, amount owed, etc. Consumers should look for old documents to help them identify important dates and how much your bill (AMOUNT OWED) really is.What you can control (Part 2) is located on my BLOG network www.creditadviseforyou.ning.com

Avoid These Undesirable Business Personality TypesIn my work coaching Indie Business owners, I have seen a lot of people make a lot of mistakes. I've made many mistakes myself, so I'm especially good at helping my clients avoid the pitfalls that can quickly destroy their business.

At one time or another, I have been all of the business people I don't want to be, and made all of the business mistakes I don't want to make. This post offers tips to help you avoid 3 destructive business personality types and the mistakes they make.1. Holly HobbyistHolly Hobbyist is creative and fun. She is naturally gifted and talented and is the person you call when you need to add some flair to your life. If Holly is your friend, you are never without a personal fashion consultant or interior designer. Throughout her life, Holly has enjoyed all kinds of hobbies. One day, she realizes that so many people ask her for help that she could start charging a fee. So that's what she does.Holly knows that her services are every bit as good as the people that command a high fee, but because she's a "hobbyist," Holly feels guilty when she charges what "professionals" charge. Holly decides that, if she charges less than she's worth, she can make it up on volume. So she prints up brochures, sets up a website and in about 24 hours, she's in business. Within a few months, she realizes that she's working harder than her competitors and for less money. She enjoys her work, but she knows she'd enjoy it more if she charged what she is worth. But now, she's stuck into a pricing structure that people have come to expect and she fears that raising her prices will send prospects running in the opposite direction.--> Avoiding being Holly Hobbyist begins with adopting a business mindset. This means abandoning any sense of guilt that you are now charging for something that you once gave away for free. To make sure this mindset stays with you, join at least one business networking group or local chamber of commerce and then use the benefits and participate. Surrounding yourself with other business people will help you take yourself more seriously.--> Charge what your products and services are worth from the very beginning. Research what others charge for similar products and services, assess what is fair in your particular case (considering things like educational level, experience or quality) and charge what covers your costs (all of them) plus a reasonable amount to make a fair profit that not only keeps you in business but also pays you. (You may not be able to write yourself a weekly check at first, but that should absolutely be one of your first goals.)2. Credit Card CandaceCredit Card Candace is excited and confident that it won't take her very long to get her new venture off the ground. She may or may not have money of her own, but that doesn't matter because she's got credit cards. Her business planning is sketchy because her credit will make up for any unanticipated events. Candace charges this and that here and there, and before she knows it, she's run up a balance that has fees she didn't expect. To compound the problem, she makes one late payment. In response, the bank increases her interest rate and imposes a $35 late fee.Candace can cover the late fee and continue to make payments that leave enough room at the top to cover her continued need for supplies. But over time, the credit card balance hanging over her head begins to take a mental toll. She loves what she does all day, but at night, she has trouble sleeping because the burden of overextending herself is so heavy.---> Avoiding being Credit Card Candace by adopting a frugal mindset. And I don't just mean frugal, I mean cheapskate frugal. I saved $2.50 on cold medicine last night using a coupon. $2.50 is not going to change my business or my household much, but if I save $2.50 on every item I buy for my home and business, I'm saving thousands of dollars a year. (More couponing and rebate tips here and in a video here.)--> Pinch every penny, and I mean that literally. Save money each week so that you can cover at least part of your costs in cash. Assess whether you really need what you are about to charge on a credit card or whether you can get the same thing later, or barter for it. The bank may be extending you credit, but they don't have to be in control of that credit. You do. Pay your credit cards, not according to the bank's schedule, but according to your schedule. Use online payment systems to make a payment at least once a week. Don't wait until the end of the month to pay if the balance is accumulating.3. DIY GuyDIY Guy is very smart. He's a lone ranger and has done so well in traditional careers that he has seldom needed to reach out for help. He approaches each project with gusto and vigor and maintains as much control as possible. After all, no one can do anything quite like him. Guy has great products, so he's confident that the money he's saving by doing everything himself will allow him to compete more effectively.Rather than hire a website designer or buy an inexpensive template, Guy reads "dummy" books and codes his site himself. He takes his own product photos, writes his own copy, creates his own logo and site banner and sends buyers to PayPal. While there's nothing wrong with Guy doing some things himself to save money, doing all of them makes his new website look amateurish and uninviting. And of course, he wonders why he's not making much money.--> You may be able to do it all in a traditional job, but when you're Indie, you can't do everything yourself. For one thing, you'll find yourself working so much in your business that you won't be working onit. Working in your business means spending all day in the minutiae and never assessing the big picture. Guy is so busy learning HTML code and figuring out how to take product photos that he forgets all about making a profit doing what he's really good at.--> Don't be so busy doing everything yourself that you don't have time to sell anything. A business can recover from a lot of things. Failure to sell anything is not one of them. It's tough to launch, own and manage a business of your own, but once you decide to pursue your dreams, you must shed old mentalities that don't work in the business world.Holly, take yourself seriously.Candace, get a grip on your finances.Guy, learn to delegate. What do you think? When I look back through the years, I see a little of myself in Holly, Candace and Guy. But the only reason I'm still in business today is because I replaced those personalities with ones that empowered me to become profitable and enjoy my life at the same time. Do you see yourself here? What are your questions or comments on this topic? If you have overcome Holly-itis, Candace-itis or Guy-itis, use the comment section to share your tips and suggestions so others can follow in your footsteps.Related Posts3 Hot Tips to Kick Start Your BusinessSurvival of the FittestYou Have to Touch Home PlateFor more success tips, subscribe to Indie Business Blog today. If you like Indie Business Blog, please share the home page with your friends using this link: http://tinyurl.com/6l5h79.Connect with me on Linked In.Join my Twitter circle.

Are you screwing up social media opportunities?

How are you screwing up social media opportunities???Here are 2 emails that were sent to me when someone wanted to use social media to get sales. Here's the problem, we don't have a relationship yet. Arghhhh, I want to know lots of you, but I never get the chance because instead of reaching out and making long lasting friendships, you see this opportunity to be selfish and not think about how you can help me.Before I bash, let me say that they did some things right. Here’s what they did right … the top one has an offer and a deadline – love that! But, I have no idea who www.daughternature.com is. Never bought from her before, don’t know why her name is daughternature… I want to buy but… I don’t trust her.***************************************************************************************************************Headline: Holiday Wholesale ShoppingDaughterNature.com - Your Wholesale Gift Store has sent you a message on Business Synergy NetworkHi Y'all! We all know times are tough and as wholesalers we already save you over 50% off 365 days a year.Until December 15th, we offer an additional 15% off on your purchases and we guarantee Christmas delivery if purchases are made no later than December 17th!At Check out, use 15% off coupon code: BSNValid Until December 15, 2008From our family to yours, we wish you a blessed and profitable 2009!*****************************************************************************************************************************The ad was direct to the point and if I knew that I would actually get my merchandise on time, I might go and browse. BUT once again, we do not have a relationship yet. She probably made some sales but no where what should could have if she would have made sure that I felt comfortable with her first. The Second Email....Here is what I like about this one – she genuinely asks about me in the headline. SO I thought... The headline made me open the email but… The headline is not connected to the message. Now, she pissed me off. I am like – what??? a sales message? When you use this headline why not ask them to answer a survey, find out if they have any one who needs a cell phone and then the sales pitch. Don’t trick someone into opening the email.******************************************************************************************************************************Headline: Could Use Your HelpBT Beverly has sent you a message on iseecolorHi there, I hope you are having a fun filled day. Perfect Partnering Pitches

Perfect Your Pitch For Maximum Impact

I love interacting with people. Sometimes, I have the opportunity to be of service, either through one-on-one coaching, this blog, or as a result of connections at social sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Savor The Success. It warms my heart to receive notes from people who say they enjoy my work and have exciting ideas about how we can collaborate. In addition to those email messages, I also receive cookie-cutter messages saying how "wonderful" I am, and then asking me to do something like exchange links, feature their product or service on my radio show, etc.

Perfect_pitch_5

Cookie-cutter pitches are incredibly annoying. I can tell when an email that purports to address me individually is actually part of a bowl of pasta that someone thew at the wall in the hopes that something would stick. Don't pitch people like that. Be genuine and sincere and you'll make perfect partnering pitches and have more fun in the process. A true story illustrates my point.

Last week, I received an email message from someone I don't know and have never heard of before. There was no "Dear Donna Maria" at the top, and the body of the message said this, "Your organizations focus on women is incredible. I've passed along this flyer so you can share it with your staff or your audience. Thank you- Name." This was followed by a business name, a street address, a phone number, an email address and a website address. The email also had an attachment, which I think she expected me to open. Before you read on, think for a minute about what you would do it you received such a message.

What I Did

My first thought was to wonder how she knew that my focus on women was so "incredible." I could have been flattered, but there was no indication that she was really talking to me. It looked like a canned message that was sent to hundreds if not thousands of anonymous people. That's not a good way to introduce yourself to someone when you want them to promote your work. Even so, I was curious.

So, I Wrote Back

I responded to the email as follows, "Thanks, why are you sending me a flyer? What is it? Who are you? What do you do ...?"

And She Responded

I received a very nice reply, which said:

  • she found out about me through Mocha Moms, where I serve as the National Work At Home Network Director
  • she is a certified life coach
  • she has worked in a home office for 15 years
  • the flyer is about an inexpensive teleclass she is offering to help women in the areas of stress relief and self care
  • she sent it to me in case I wanted to offer it as a resource to members of my network (I guess she meant the Indie Beauty Network) or other professional women

Why Not Say That At First?!

All of this made me wonder why she didn't tell me all of those great and wonderful things in the first place.

When contacting someone to ask them to connect you with their audience, know that the person receiving your request will probably want to know how you heard about them. They will also appreciate being addressed by their name. And they will probably be very hesitant to open an attachment from someone they don't know.

They'll appreciate you providing enough information to allow them to "investigate" you a bit before taking any action. In my case, I get dozens of emails weekly from people wanting to connect with me and my circle of business colleagues. There are only so many hours in a day, so I focus on the requests I receive from clients and members of IBN first, and then on sincere inquiries that seem to be genuinely targeted to me. After all, if someone doesn't care enough to make their offer seem special, then they have no reason to expect others to treat it as though it's special.

If you want to use an email message to attempt to collaborate with a complete stranger, address them by name, include a short introduction about yourself and what you do, and tell them exactly what it is you want them to do with and/or for you. It shouldn't be too long and flowery. It should be interesting and easy to read, and get quickly to the point.

Sample Outreach Letter

You can use this sample outreach letter to introduce yourself and the collaborative opportunities you have to offer. It's skeletal, and meant to be that way, so that you can infuse your own details and personality into the mix. I hope it's helpful.

Dear Donna Maria,

My name is Joanna Doe, president of Joanna Doe Company. I provide products that help people do this or that. I heard about you from so and so's blog and I am writing to find out if you might be interested in working with me to do thus and such.

I know that you are a big fan of these things and those things, and since I am as well, perhaps we could join together on this project that I believe would be beneficial to each of us, and to our customers. You can read lots of details about my products at this link, but the short overview is that I would like to connect with you to create a whatever your idea is that will accomplish the goal of whatever the goal is. The benefits for you are these and these benefits. All you would have to do to participate is this and this. I will take care of the rest, such as announcing your involvement in my blog, at my website and in my newsletter, which has this many opt in subscribers. (See a recent issue, plus what my readers have to say at this link.)

I hope this interests you and I'll follow up by phone at the number at your website in a few days to discuss this exciting opportunity. I am also interested in knowing if you have any ideas so feel free to call me at the number below or send me an email with your questions or thoughts.

I look forward to connecting!

Thanks for your time,
Me

I used some of the techniques described here to get my blog listed in the Small Business category at Alltop. And while email is great, sometimes people's websites or blogs will tell you the best way to pitch them an idea. Failing to follow their instructions to a tee is the surest way to get your idea tossed in the delete folder. And don't forget that, sometimes there's no substitute for a friendly phone calls or an in-person meeting to pave the way to new and exciting collaborative opportunities.

What do you think?

First impressions count, even in email messages. Even though technology makes connecting easy and cost-free, we still must use basic manners and etiquette. Don't make the mistake of coming across as unprofessional or insincere. Both are deal breakers, don't you think?

How do you connect with other people? Weigh in with your ideas and tips for creating new collaborative ventures that help you and others accomplish their goals. And don't forget to leave a link that describes your successful collaboration so we can find out more!

When You Can't Cut Anymore? What Then?

I have watched business owners in this economy do some strange stuff. As many of you know, I am a member of WPO (Women President's Organization)- It is a national organization where you must have $2million in sales to join. We meet monthly to share tips, strategies and ideas in order to build our businesses. I would suggest you find a similar group in your local city. But, last week our meeting was filled with strategies to cut expenses. Finally, after an hour I asked, When You Can't Cut Anymore, What Then?. From the group several said, yeah, Richelle, we are at that point. One even said, she is answering the phones in order to save the salary for the receptionist. WHAT??? I almost fell out of my chair. At some point, you have to make some better decisions. And one needs to be, let's focus on getting more business, instead of cutting essential staff. So what does that mean? Here is the secret, even women who are in the $2million to $5million range forget sometimes. And it is this...Large cash flow surges in this economy do not come from the outside, meaning they do not come from finding a new client. The large cash flow surges come from your existing customers buying more.(sigh) Really - the odds of a business owner finding a brand new customer who does not know you to spend lots of money in this economy is 1 in 1000. It is possible but it means that you might have to reach 999 before that one will save you. And, I'm not sure you have enough money to last that long.Tonight, I am asking your most burning questions about your business and surviving this economy. How to get customers to come to you, plus how to make more money. Are you going to join us? Sign up at Http://www.BusinessWomenofColor.net for details.Much SuccessRichelle

Becoming An Expert In Your Field

Building Expert StatusBy Audrey Bell-KearneyWhen you are in business you want people to look at you as an expert in your field. If you are just starting out you may not see yourself as an expert yet. There is a way to build this status and you can do so by writing. You maybe saying what am I going to write? If you are doing something that you love and it is your business and your passion, I am almost sure that there is something that you can write about to help you start to build your status as an expert. Here are few ways to build expert status very easily.1. Write a column on your subject for a local paper. Most local papers are looking for good content and you will be surprised how easy it is to get your article published. If the article is really good you may even get your own column.2. Write articles and submit them on the Internet to article directories. There are thousands of publishers out there looking for good content for their website or their online newsletter so what you have to say may be of some interest to thousands of readers on the Internet.3. Set up a blog and start writing about what you know. This is a great way to build expert status and to also get others involved with the conversation when they leave comments on your blog. The key to blogging is to blog consistently. This means that you should be blogging at least once a day and even more if possible.4. Publish a report. You can create a report about something pertaining to your industry. The report does not have to be more than 24 pages. Your report could be your observation about a specific topic.5. Write a book. This is one of the absolutely best ways to become an expert. When you become a published author you are looked at differently and receive a different kind of respect and you will feel wonderful to have accomplished something as grand as writing a book.I do all of these methods and more. You don’t have to do them all at one time, but if it is important for you to become an expert in your field you should definitely try a few of these.Until Next TimeMuch SuccessAudreyAudrey Bell-Kearney is the President of Sister Inc Network and the author of The Sister Inc Blueprint For Starting And Running A Successful Business. I have been truly amazed how so many of us don't add or develop a marketing and adversting budget for our business to grow. If you plan to increase your business be willing to get a part time job just for that reason to help grow your dream. I challenge each of you to save $50.00 a week and use that at the end of the month to make a decision to contract a public relations firm or pay for exposure. You will see a difference. I work part time for a video company making sure ALL the latest games are up front for purchase. It pays for my gas and the hourly rate is more than $10.00. I use those funds to help promote my firm.Get on a plan and watch your business take off. Yes, word of mouth is great, but what about those you can't reach. Each of us should desire our businesses becoming a household name, be willing to BRAND your business. Here are some other tips work seasonally or part time until that goal is met or as needed.I hope this helps someone."Struggle comes before Success"

Greetings everyone,This post addresses the biggest problem I had in the beginning capturing and handling my target audience as a legal marketer. It is natural, normal and expected to receive questions from serious prospects. Serious prospects want to know about you, your services and your offerings. They expect details written out so they may analyze if what they are receiving is worth the cost. This is something everyone would expect. Early on I provided a list of services on my business site. After all, this is what I would expect if I were hiring a service.Marketing books traditional and non-traditional promote giving as much information to prospective clients as possible. (via brochures, fliers, e-mail, circulars, etc . . .) The more inquiry from prospects, the better your chance of gaining cherished customers. I applied this strategy in my first business. What the books left out was how to market a closed or specialized community; such as contracting with criminal defense attorneys. The services we provide are intangible and when translated to paper could not compensate for the "if" instances and there are many "if" instances. We found out, our first go around, about marketing a professional specialized community. Sharing our services in detail created competition. We had to work harder, smarter and longer until the competition could not keep up and finally drifted away. The competition were attorneys who contacted us that we sent detailed information to. Now we meet face to face with potential legal marketing clients and explain our services to create mutual understanding and agreement of the services we provide. Our real success did not come until we implemented this way of doing business with defense attorneys. This separated the serious prospects from those wanting a written model.Outlining your services is fantastic for gaining prospective clients depending on your business and your target audience. In our beginning, we did not understand our audience. If I could go back in time, a list of legal marketing services would have never been created.Should you create a list or price list of your services? It depends on the character of your audience. lolIt is always a Blessing to Share, Dream a World!
