resolutions (7)

OKAY THE NEW YEAR EVE PARTY IS OVER

We are now in the middle of  January and have you begun working on your new year resolution?  I don't believe in resolutions. I think every day of your life you should try to change or do something different. You should always have new goals on a constant basis.

I will say this my new year has started slow,I am still trying to tie up loose ends from last year. I think by the middle of February I should be on the right track.

Now what did I learn from last year?

I learned that don't take everything for granted, things  and situations can stop or start without  your control or your doing.

We as business oriented people sometimes  can be too business and not enjoy what we do simply because we become so wrapped up in the bottom line. We forget what was all the hard work for.  I truly believe that we should not only have our own business because we don't want to work for others, but because we want to be happy in what we do through the   services or products we sell to others.

I understand that the bills are due employees have to paid, but without your hard work, your sleepless nights, and the many tears you have shed you would not be able to accomplish what you have now.

Maybe business is slow self-assure yourself that it will get better that is what I tell myself in all my situations, things will get better don't give up. You have a whole year to progress, change, reevaluate, create a bigger picture for yourself and your business.

So now that the party is over its time to get back to innovation, imagination, communication, motivation, education and do not leave out a great celebration.

Achieving Your 2011 Goals

At the start of each New Year many people make resolutions that by the middle of the year, sometimes sooner, are all but forgotten. So how do you make good on the momentum you have on that fresh start that the New Year brings? I recommend that my clients take different approach this year, which is to try setting just one or two major goals and put all your energy and resources into achieving those goals. Trying to fix everything in life all at once and is just not doable.

I'm including a Plan A Goal Development and Action Planning Worksheet below which you may use to help you achieve your 2011 goals. This is a tool I am also putting. This way my clients will know that I've 'gotten a taste my own medicine' and it works.

GOAL DEVELOPMENT AND ACTION PLANNING

GOAL (be specific about what you hope to achieve):

How will I know that I am improving? What is my feedback plan?

What obstacles might get in the way of my progress? What can I do to diminish them?

What strengths do I currently have that will help me reach this goal?

What support do I need? From whom might I need support, partnership, coaching, mentoring, or advocacy?

What resources do I need to be successful (financing, technical support, etc.)?

What will success look and feel like?

Please feel free to let me know how you will use this tool and to provide feedback on its usefulness as you do. Here’s to wishing you all the best on Living Your Plan A in 2011!

“Your next level begins where your comfort level ends.”
Lisa Nicole Bell, Change Agent/The Inspiration Icon

Well that’s fantastic news, because not since months seven through nine of pregnancy have I been this uncomfortable!  Last week’s  Meet the Resource call was right on time for many of us, including yours truly. I’ve labeled the past two weeks of my life as Beautifully Intense because I now know (and the call served as yet another confirmation) why this particular transition is a necessary part of my life.  Today I am in full celebration mode—party hat, confetti, hot Goddess dress, the works—because I am shedding my old skin, and sauntering sexily in my six-inch heels on my hand-sewn, plush new red carpet.

The catalyst for this transition was far from sexy, though–deep and ugly like a freshly made wound from a long, long drop. It started one night lying in bed with Kris talking about where we were versus where we wanted to be.  We were back in a space we never thought we’d revisit, and just like all the other times, the familiarity of the space left me feeling bitter, doubtful, and defeated.

That Night (The Drop).

Coming down from the Super High of spending 32 days in Jamaica, followed by being flown to New York for a photo shoot with one of my favorite magazines, was far worse than I’d anticipated.

****I'm sharing this with you because I know many of us, particularly during this time of year, are in a state of self-assessment, which can lead to self-deprication. But sometimes, the "downturn" is a necessary element of growth, and I experienced that recently in a very powerful way.  I'm sharing because through my experience, perhaps you may see a bit of yourself and your situation...

10 Steps to a Successful Business Year

by Karen A. DavisA new year causes most of us to stop and reflect on past successes and failures and what we want to accomplish in the next 12 months. You may have New Year’s resolutions or on-going goals. Honestly assessing your position in your field and thinking strategically about your where you want your business or career to be at year’s end will move you towards the goals you have for this year and beyond. The following ten steps will assist you in creating a written guide to follow throughout the year.1. Review your goals from last year. Which did you meet and which ones did you miss? Decide goals that should be carried over into this year, and the ones that can be put aside for later or disregarded altogether.2. What challenges or obstacles did you encounter last year? List how you dealt with them and the outcomes – whether you were successful or not – and how you will avoid them in the future.3. Define your passion. What do you really want to be doing? Are you doing it, or is your current career or business taking you in the direction of your dream? If not, how can you reconcile what you are doing now with what you want to do?4. Define your ideal client: What do they look like? Where do they live or work? How much money do they have to spend? What type of project will they present you with? What will your working relationship be like?5. Research your competition – their clients, service offerings, and pricing – especially your number one competitor.6. Define where your business will be in the next year. This, along with Step 7, will probably be the longest part of the process. Take some time to visualize how your company or career will look. Walk through a typical day. Outline the financials. Determine how you want to feel on December 31st.7. Outline the steps to make your goals for the next year a reality based on your plans from Step 6. Begin with a general outline, and then get more detailed, developing a monthly worksheet or guide.8. Make sure all of your marketing and public relations materials are consistent with the message you want to promote over the next year. Your business cards, brochures, website, and social networking sites should communicate your brand.9. Identify three ways to meet and engage the clients described in Step 4. Define the meeting location. Work on an appealing opening line and your elevator pitch, and describe how you can meet their needs.10. Find an accountability partner – someone who you know will hold you responsible and will question you throughout the year to make sure you follow through with your goals and objectives.© Copyright – Karen A. I can't believe January is over today and we are already moving on to valentines day and the first school half term of the year. How are you doing with your new year re-solutions?I had an awesome interview with Gilly onthe speak-easy radio show on www.playvybz.com this week where we spoke about resolutions as well as lots of other topics, it was a great show and the station owner Andrea Photiou is young entrepreneur who is doing amazing things. Here is a video snippet of my radio interview - http://theppsn.ning.com/video/gilly-interviews-sophia-bailey which tells you a couple of things you maybe didnt know about me ;-) but the whole interview is 90 minutes, I'll be posting it to the PPSN site soon. - http://theppsn.ning.comAfter the Obama Inauguration, everyone is looking for their perfect Mr or Mrs Obama and it has sparked many a debate about how to attract that perfect person. If you were in our online networking event on Jan 20th you would have picked up a few tips but if you have any tips to share, i'd love to hear them.It also got me thinking about the dating scene and who or what is really on offer?" If you want to receive the best from others, you must accept the best in you"Sophia BaileyWith Valentines day coming up soon, I've had a few event invites but listening to some single people, you'd forgive me for thinking there is no point in trying."women only want my friendship " ,"women just want my money" , "men just want one thing"We do a lot of talking about what's lacking in other people but we skip past what we're actually offering. We know we have to become like the person we wish to attract, or why else would they want us?;but in addition, believing that people are attracted to you for one thing means you believe you only have one thing to offer - Think about that."What you believe about yourself determines how you show yourself and people will always treat you the way you see you."You might find that you continually attract people looking for someone that offers just one thing, be it people that are healing and just want friendship, deceptive people that just want money or married people who want a fling.Things wont change until you start to see yourself as someone who no longer offers one thing but has a long list of things to offer. This fortnight write a list of your best qualities, get your loved ones to list good things about you and list the best qualities of people you admire, they reflect you too.On Valentines Day, read your list to remind yourself of the amazing all inclusive package that you are.Sophia Xxp.s If you are enjoying my new column in the Voice newspaper 'Words of Wisdom' do send a note to the editor@gvmedia.co.uk This weeks column is on page 30... Many thanks!p.p.s check out some of the blogs below from our members and post them some feedback if you can :-)p.p.p.s (she's so extra!) feel free to send me a valentines e-card, being single means i get more cards right?5 GREAT WAYS TO START THE DAYBY LEAH SALMONIf getting up in the morning is an unbearable event, here are 5 ways to make this one of the best parts of the day. Naturally.1. Wake up with a smile - There is no better way to start the day than to be faced with something lovely as soon as you open your eyes. So find a picture of something you really love, whether that a picture of the latest sports car, a beautiful bunch of flowers, you favourite old teddy or something you find really funny and position it so that as soon as you wake up you see it...........and smile. This may sound silly, but ....TO READ MORE VISIT - http://theppsn.ning.com/profiles/blogs/5-great-ways-to-start-the-day2009 - YOUR GOALS YOUR FUTUREBY NICK MOODYWith the new year now three weeks old, how many of us experienced an all too brief period of time at the turn of the year where we felt optimistic about the year ahead, set ourselves new goals and challenges, and told ourselves that this time next year we'd be millionaires? I'm sure that I wasn't alone in setting new and better expectations of myself in 2009......TO READ MORE VISIT - http://theppsn.ning.com/profiles/blogs/2009-your-goals-your-futureBEAUTY OR THE BEASTBY ROGER MILLARLook at this image above what do you see a young woman, or an old hag? Whatever you can see try and see the opposite you will probably struggle to see itMany of you will have already seen, at some point in your lives, this classic optical illusion. How can this picture be used from a coaching perspective?A school of thought suggests that the majority of women who look at this picture will see the old hag, the theory goes that women are generally unhappy about some aspect of their appearance, hence they see and focus on the negative aspects first and lastTO READ MORE VISIT - http://theppsn.ning.com/profiles/blogs/beauty-or-the-beast
