Aside from completing college requirements and child bearing, I would surely say that starting and running a profitable venture is one of the most challenging and rewarding things that a woman could do. Why? Because it takes plenty of thought, planning, and action in order to move a vision from one stage to the next. It’s not easy but when you find your purpose and can operate in it on your own terms, then it certainly makes your efforts much more rewarding.

It doesn’t matter what stage of the game you are in as you build create your venture you are likely to come across some obstacles along the way but as long as you maintain the right attitude and equip yourself with the right resources, then you’ll be able to move from start-up to success.

Here’s a few suggestions for creating a rock solid foundation in your business:

1. Compensate for weaknesses with other’s strengths. You may have an idea for business that requires skills that you do not possess right now but don’t let that stop you. Instead of letting those things stop you in tracks, find someone who can partner with you by providing their skills, talents, or resources. As a good friend of mine once said, If life gives you lemons, turn them into grape juice and let everyone wonder how in the world you did it!

2. Unleash Your Inner Visionary. Your entrepreneurial path is filled with possibilities. Do not be afraid to dream. Think like a visionary. Keep a pad and pencil or a voice recorder handy at all times. You’ll notice strong spurts of inspiration will come to you throughout the day as you are planning, meeting with clients, or relaxing over a cup of tea. As the ideas form inside your mind take some time to write down what you want things to look like. From there you will be able to build upon them in a structured, cohesive, and strategic way.

3. Maintain a Posture of Perseverance. As you are building your company, resolve to work diligently at it every single day. Never allow people who do not understand your vision to distract you. If your idea needs work then get the advice of other business owners and experts who have experience in your industry. Be open to approach them and to ask them questions. Remember they were once in your shoes and many are willing to give back in the form of mentoring until your company gets off the ground.
